Yep, wooden bikes can be cool, especially that one.

I know it's a road bike, but Renovo bikes are awesome. If I wanted a road bike it would be one of those.

hmmm, it apears most folk are confusing cool with old and out of date. if these old bikes were so cool they would still be prevalent, they arent because they are not cool, they are sh1t.

as for cool, my enduro is the coolest of them all. fact.

Yeh, I reckon although stuff can be cool because of looks, if it doesn't work then it's looks can't make it cool. That's why I can't see custom motorbikes as cool... (runs away fast)

Do you lose or gain coolness for that comment?!

I'm not even sure whether anyone over 30 has any sense of cool at all, so I may be disqualified along with most of the others on here...

    Basic rules of cool.

Nothing mainstream can be cool. That means specialized, trek, scott, giant, cannondale, orange, cube etc. No exceptions.

Nothing with a stupid design can be cool. That means things like the storck posted before, and that ugly lotus thing. Also includes jones spaceframe, of course. And don't even ask about the cannondale lefty.

Just because its retro, doesn't make it cool.

    29ers not cool.

SS not cool. Exception, on-one inbred. Has to be rigid.

No marins are cool. They're horribly ugly.

No commencals are cool, too many fat blokes ride them.

Seen some people saying santa cruz bikes are cool, but I own one, so they're not. Sorry.

Stupidly over built full sus bikes, not cool. This includes most yetis.

Anything from halfrauds or focus, very uncool.

Something too many people have - not cool. This includes orange 5, stumpy fsr etc.

Lapierre, because they try too hard.

Nicolai, because the names on backwards. Also fits in with the whole over built thing.

Oh, and another ti or carbon. Not cool.

If its not on this list, then it might just be cool. Or I've forgotten it.

Evil, NS, Cotic - all cool.

    Rigid SS inbred. Cool.

Cove bikes - that's a hard one. They've got stupid names, but there's just something about them.. If they're being ridden insanely, cool. Anything else, uncool. I think.

Whyte hardtails are cool for now, until someone comes along who owns a white hardtail and says they're cool. Then they're uncool.

Charge bikes is a difficult one.

most of what real man said is wrong, leftys are cool, they're wierd and uncomplicated so are therefore cool. i agree with the specialized thing, but giant have finally made a cool range of bikes for 2010, cannondale are cool and trek and cube make some great looking and cool bikes.

now about on-one, brant richards started the company from a shed and now runs shedfire, i mean come on thats not cool, any guy could do that. great products but because they are made in a shed they are uncool.

carbon fibre is uncool 90% of the time, a few exceptions, the ibis mojo, gt fury, commencal meta55 carbon, lapierre zesty all cool bikes.

ss is not cool, its hardcore and nothing realy hardcore is cool, like no track day car is cool, because they are just too raw to be livable with.

the marin attack trail is the exception to the marin thing, its cool, its got the hammerschmidt its bright green and is a great ride. boutique brands are a tough one, santa cruz are cool, peaty and minaar ride them, dunno now about the rest cant really be arsed to figure it out

Its not about the ride. The marin attack trail is one of the ugliest bikes ever. Uncool.

one exception to my rule is the jones 29er thing, but it has to have gears. if i was a rich man, there'd be 1 of those in my bike shed.

its a good looking bike, and every one will be watching you and every one will see the hammerschmidt and therefore its cool,

new rule any bike with hammerschmidt is automatically cool

To a keen biker it may be desirable, but that doesn't make it cool. Hammerschmidt isn't cool just like magnetically adjustable suspension (or whatever it was) was the reason for a car not getting on the TG cool wall. It's complicated and needs explaining to most people. I dont even know what it actually is tbh!

I'm sure its a technological marvel, but it ain't cool!

i will guess you never rode a bike with hammerschmidt then..

it is cool the way it shifts the speed it shifts pedal forward don't pedal or pedal backwards, it will shift, it is an instant shift to..

and the clearence you get to must make it cool.. or at least practical....

Sorry to disagree with you sheep, but rigid singlespeeds are cool, because they're so simple.

There's no high or low speed compression to explain, rebound is just how far you bounce when you fall off, no 1:1 vs 2:1 gear shifts to explain, no talk of ratio, slick shifting, ghosting etc.

It's a bike, you spin the cranks and it goes forwards, you hit the brakes and it doesn't. It's so simple it's cool.

But if we're all honest, mountain biking isn't really a cool sport. Spending your weekends rolling around muddy trails, red and sweaty isn't cool. Gasping for breath at the top of a climb isn't cool, and messing your pants on the way down whilst screamig like a 3 year old isn't either.

I don't care about being cool, i just like riding, so that automaticaly makes me cooler than everyone else

Saying that something is cool because it's practical means that it's not cool

And no, I haven't ridden a bike with hammerschmidt, like I said, I'm sure it technologically very good, but clearance and *cue nerdy voice* improved shift speeds *end nerdy voice* aren't cool.

And for a record, I ride a Boardman, it's from Halfords, so i think it was deemed uncool pretty early on in the thread!

By your own words, that makes it uncool. One, its not a good looking bike, you must be blind. Two, hammerschmidt may be a good invention, but you have to explain what it is. That makes it uncool. And three, if everyone is watching you, that means its just a show off bike, therefore uncool.

    +1. Nerdy voice factor.
