Including the time bonus Levi lost 49 seconds to Di Luca. Not good.
That's 1.40 down in GC now.0 -
Suprised Armstrong kept it up today. Great performance from Di LucaPlanet X N2A

He will get that back in the TT. And more perhaps. Although pink jersey wearers seem to metamorphose into excellent time trialers...0 -

I thought Levi could descend? Looked to me like he let the wheel of whoever was in front of him (Sastre, Menchov or Arroyo) go and caused that the split between the Di Luca group and the Basso group. He seemed to be very hesistant going into some of the corners mid way down.0

There's a killer on the loose and boy is he juiced.0

DDL is an "artist".
Showed the "power output boys" what the can expect, almost every day, from stage 14 to the finish.
Suddenly, there's margin that is becoming defendable.
Surprised Horner went out early. LL on the rivet. All very promising for an exciting finale.
Pity about the first 240kms, though!"Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

Yup, terrible descending by Levi.0 -
DDL must be a shoe in for the ITT now.
It's like LBL which he excels in. Those pink wrist bands must have magic powers. Or, make it easy to get a vein up.Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -

I wonder what Di Luca is on...he's definitely 100% not to be trusted judging by his past...but surely he's on the radar of the blood passport folk, CERA is out as an option...maybe he is just good?0 -
Whatever "....Di Luca is on..." - if anything - that was in my, non-expert, opinion a class act.
Well timed and well put together.

No, he's an expert at following wheels.
Di Luca gives me the creeps, is ugly on a bike, but he has great racing brain and is able to maximise his condition. It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0 -
DDL is on the same as the Astana boys.
Says so on his passport.
Who was better suited to that finish?
260kms, with a sharp ramp at the end.
Perfect launch pad for a classics specialist.
Today he was on the top of his game.
He has been immaculate in his preparation this year, building gradually.
He can still have that "killer" bad day at the office, though."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
Menchov must be the biggest threat now.
2nd over all, can climb and can test.
And can do 3 weeks.

Garzelli looks set for the win and to take back a shed load of time.
He'll probably want to lose it again, to go off in search of another stage win and the green jersey.
Soon be over...

Di Luca took 10 seconds on that last short explosive (decobbled) ramp on Pellizotti, Sastre and Menchov. The 19 further seconds on the aged and slightly nervous Leipheimer, Rogers, Armstrong, Simoni, Basso group was taken out on the descent of the smallish previous climb.
Was it really that outstanding/surprising or was it just a perfect DDL-type finish? There's certainly enough of us had him down as the winner in the PTP. And of his three rivals at the end I'd have thought only Pellizotti had the Giro as their number 1 target this year. And it's not as if the major rivals for pink really had a go on this stage - they mostly rode together at a decent tempo.0 -
Wat it Jackson Rodriguez or Joaquin Rodriguez who finished in the top 10?
Cycling news say Jackson but I could have sworn I saw a second Caisse rider at the finish along with Arroyo.
Horner's relatively poor form today was surprising considering his showings on earlier stages. Levi could have really done with a team-mate to help him limit his losses or indeed prevent him losing time on the descent in the first place.0 -

Joaquin, definitely. I bloody hope so as he's my PTP GC pick :oops:___________________

Lovkvist lost 1.40 today, 2 minutes if you include the time bonus. That's a bit of a mare really.
Di Luca has now gained a full minute in time bonuses.0 -

Maybe it was the 'late surge' from a guy that couldn't previously climb all that well at the end of six-and-a-half-hour climbing stage that some people find ridiculous?0 -
WOW. Di Luca is looking phenomenal and with the bonus seconds, he's in VERY good position to take this thing. Sure, he'll lose time in the ITT but tthere's more mountain stages left. As long as he can keep from fading in the third week (no small feat) he's going to be strong.0

Maybe, still early in the tour though and the stage wasn't particularly hard, just long. The is ths possibility that maybe he's just in great shape, it does happen every now and thenPlanet X N2A

Yeah. My  .
Hadn't realised from the profile pic that the decent was VERY shallow and at times, uphill.
Came down to a standard rope in.
He still nearly made it, though.
