Pointless bling you MUST have...

I am anxiously waiting for tomorrow - hopefully all my shiny new stuff will turn up (ordered it before 6:00 last night) - got the tools ready and waiting to put it all on, the only thing I cannot do is index the gears - but ill fit all the other stuff and take it down to LBS for him just to index it all..... can't wait!!! Yay - like a big kid!
I hope it's as nice as you say - wants to be for the money anyway!0 -
I've just ordered a carbon bottle cage for £38 - how stupid is that?! Not even sure it will keep the bottle in place as I bounce around on hardtail MTB. Think I need help! I used to drink and gamble, but this is far worse.
(just posted this on another thread too, but thought you could help!)Scott Scale 20 (for xc racing)
Gary Fisher HKEK (for commuting)0 -
i just spanked £150 on a pair of Super.Fi 5 Pro earphones.
the next day I ordered 2 little boxes of replacement foam tips, which came to about £40 including delivery.
My girlfriend, after only seeing the second receipt from Hand Held Audio, couldn't believe that I had spent £40 on a PAIR OF BLOODY EARPHONES!!!!
I just bit my tongue and reminded her she had just bought a new car.
As for bike parts, I will never forget the day my mum phoned to tell me my Big Hit III had been stolen from her garage (I was living in Italy at the time and kept all my valuables at her house).
She was quite upset because she knew it was my pride and joy.
She kindly agreed to fill out all the paperwork and report it to the police in my absence. So when it came to "how much was it worth?", I replied "£2,000" for the bike plus about another £500 in upgrades.
I had forgotten that I told her that the whole bike cost £399 when I bought it!!!!
She went absolutely mental, just couldn't understand how a "push bike" could cost so much and that I had obviously been ripped off by the shop and had been very stupid.
Now, when my mum asks what anything i've bought costs, she doesn't even blink an eyelid.
(I'm a bit older at 28 now and a lawyer, so I guess things are a bit different )
But I had my Fox RP23 sent to her house when I was on holiday and I asked her to open it, tell me what was in it, and then send it to Noahs Ark.
She said "it looks like a can of Pepsi or something like that, with 2 bits coming out of the top of it"
When I told her what it was and that it was a £320 rear shock, she didn't believe me!
People just don't get it at all. If it had been for a motorbike people could understand the cost involved, but not for a "push bike"0 -
Cheesey wrote:Matt - just checked the helmet out - very nice, is that shiney carbon in-between the vents on the top - very nice - good deal too!!
I used to use a Giro Xen which I thought was ace, but now use a pisspot-style lid - I look like I'm going through a midlife crisis - a XC-specific helmet is on the cards... I think it will have to be a cheap one as I have spent all my 'bike fund' on the Saint stuff
And a kevlar skeleton thingy too. Lightest MTB lid available apparently. The main plus is that it's much easier to get on and off quickly than the Giro which also used to catch on my bike jacket at the back.
When's the Saint stuff arriving?0 -
'Hopefully' tomorrow....
I ordered it yesterday - normally arrives in two days - so am getting my hopes up - hope they are not dashed tomorrow.. I have allocated the whole morning/afternoon for removing old kit and fitting new stuff... won't be able to ride it though as I can't index to save my life, so will book time with LBS sometime next week to just index the gears.....
Most things I can do - but the whole indexing thing gets me every time0 -
Same here - indexing is a black art worthy only of the darkest of MTB disciples.
I half hate, half love waiting for stuff to arrive by post! Good luck tomorrow!0 -

Cheers buddy - have canceled a night out with friends tonight as I don't want to be hungover* tomorrow - and there is a certain young lady there that I have an 'interest' in..
So if they don't turn up tomorrow I shall be double pissed off lol
* have fell off the wagon after a while of not drinking lol0 -
To do with lying about prices my GF thinks my Tora 302's were £25, and my juicy 5's were 30 for the pair:DCotic Soul

indexing is simple!!!
make sure both ends are fully un adjusted (wound in as far as they go - my xt m750 gear kit has an adjuster ont he mech as well as one on the gear pod, dont know if the modern kit is the same or no??), then with the mech attatched, take up the slack in the cable and clamp it down, run it up through the gears then check it and tighten if needed!
its not all that difficult to do! then its the occasional 1/4 turn on the adjusters if needed!
we have an agreement in our house, i will never understand or pretend to understand the need for countless pairs of shoes and handbags or question the amount of time spend at church on a sunday morning after the service etc. and she never questions or tries to understand the need to upgrade the bike constantly with shiny bits!
result! two happy sides!
currently looking at a new rear mech as mine is 5 years old and although faultless the lower cage is very out of line! Cant aford a new shiny XTr one but have been looking at the slightly older Xtr that you can upgrade the cage on! More carbon! 8)Timmo.

Nice spec, im not too far away from that though i have easton cnt bars, xtr chainset with hope ceramic bb, hope xc hubs on x717 wheels,tf tuning pushed rp23, oro puro brakes and a thomson elite seatpost, oh and a charge spoon saddle.
I will however all being well and good end of the year get me a pair of industry nine xc wheels at £745 for a pair or £150 more should i want ceramic bearings.
However i might go extreme and buy some shimano yumeya bits at some point.

Oh yes I9 wheels are the absolute dogs from what i've read up, that quote is from today i was thinking green hub and spoked on a white dt swiss 4.2 rim will look schaweet. 8)
I won't buy much yumeya just tiny things like the cable adjusters, even xtr ones feel cheap and plasticy.
Something like this but green instead, on a commie it will be stunning, plus my wheels are getting older anyway time for retirement methinks.

I am having a wee dilemma...what colour coordination could possibly go with my Boardman Team 09? Its that sorta guna metal colour, but I dont think silvery bits are bling enough....at the same time I cant see any other colour working. Its eventually going to be Ritchey Carboned oot its nut. The wee dial on the forks is cobalt blue.....
Anyone any suggestion of BLING colour coordination? :roll:0 -
go for gloss black, pearl white, or a nice deep redI like bikes and stuff0

I present to you THE most pointless bling I have ever bought:
A carbon bottle cage!!
That's on top of the XT SPDs (could have got M540s but they were the wrong colour), totally OTT saddle and seatpost and a few naughty bits for the road bike.
Help me someone!!0
