My recent bling purchase include an XT front mech cos it had XT rather than LX on it and Ti bolts to block up the holes in my frame for a bottle cage (no bottle cage). Oh and a Joplin seatpost.......KCNC jockey wheels..........

Anyone remember a thread about 18 months ago about not needing anything fancy to go mountain biking and how everyone was being brainwashed by the mags :lol:
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

see, if ytour looking for a car like that then speed and handling isnt going to be high on the priorities list imo! hence why i'd take the merc over the bmw every time, Never found a good driving position in any of the beemers we had at work, even the X5's, they are simply not my cup of tea!
the beemer estate isnt far of 2 tonne though is it??

the R32 isnt actually any quicker then the current Gti you know! just sounds it! and they aint light either!!

oi think really, you need something sensible and an Absolute out and out Toy car for the odd mental blast! keep the astra as its not worth a lot any more and somehting like an aerial atom or the like! 8) Stanley Would Love it!

Anyways! whats this bike talk on a car forum!:wink::D

That's what some say but the GTi gets to 60 in around 7 seconds, the R32 is 6 (or under). I had the mk4 and while not an Evo eater, it was usefully quick with no turbo lag.
The GTi is good car but I think the R32 is better - 4WD is very useful, especially in the wet and the sound of the R32 is hard to beat for even twice the price.

I've driven a few Mercs and never got on with them - dull handling and still not recovered from a period of poor quality engineering (the M Class was near the bottom of JD Power surveys not kong ago). They make some great top end cars but they are well over £50k.
I tested a 750i for the Independent - even that went very well and really handled.

Anyway, I have now ordered a 2D and hope it arrives before my off road tri this weekend!

I want to pimp my Zaskar a bit more, the SLX brakes are fine but not very fitting and add most of a pound of dead weight. I've decided I either like:

Hope Mini X2 Pro (not the new Tech X2)
    Avid Elixir CR
    Magura Marta SL
    Formula R1

    Hmm!

I might one day invest in some X9 shifters and mech for it as well, I usually lose the arguments in the "Shimano vs SRAM" threads as I'm ignorantly rambling. I need some backup (like I did in buying the Zaskar so I could tell super that GTs are rubbish).

bugger you beat me to it, that was going to be my exact message, mind you, with a new name, you can have a new opinion........................

however, a nice bit of gucci kit is good for the soul. im in that limbo situation where i dont need anything else, my 2 main bikes are draped in thomson, xtr and x.0 kit but i really want to buy something anyway, last thing was an un-necessary little bike, next thing might be some completely un-necessarily gucci wheels, wonder if anyone makes really gucci expensive BLUE wheels..........

Toasty, I have some Mini's on my SS. Only 160mm rotors, but they are properly p1ss weak...

I must upgrade to 180's. It might be a night-and-day difference, but I somehow doubt it...

Yeah, I did write a longer post initially.

The power of the Hopes worries me, the weight of the Avids is a bit high, I don't like the look of the Maguras and they cost too much and the Formula R1 are rock hard to get hold of, especially for a sensible price.

Nggh. The new Formulas are the lightest and get good writeups regarding strength, just need more places to stock them :(

I have a perfectly good crank on my quake, and perfectly good gearing (X9) but I (tomorrow) am about to change the whole drivetrain to drop-dead gorgeous Saint!!

Gonna cost me about £500 to do the lot........ sneaky little bit I didn't tell you about... as I am updating the drive train, I am also updating new cassette (SRAM PG-990 -the red one) and Gold KMC SL Ti chain (to match the little bolt son the new Saint kit)

    Do I need it?..... NO

Do I want it? ...... YES!

I can't upgrade to within a point of reasonable doubt my Marin race frame (full XTR) but yet I still want to.... does it improve my performance? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I embrace the tart in me
  • I was looking at my bike today and thinking 'if only the blue and red adjuster knobs on my fox forks and shock were green instead, that would match my frame perfectly.' Anyone know if you can get the, er, 'vital' replacement knobs?

You could always run the mini's with some 200mm discs... The Alligator discs... Weigh almost nothing.

The same same shop also does titainium hardware too....

Nah, even with titanium hardware, bolts, carbon levers and 140/160mm rotors they're still heavier than Formula R1s with 160/180mm rotors. Those things are crazy light :)

there is definately some new wheels en route in the next couple of months but i havent decided what yet, crank bros, i9 or a chris king build......................

I have a Chris King build (ISO discs on DT5.1's)

But I can't help pining for a set of I9 wheels (with coloured spokes, too).

Damn they are sexy. And everything I've ever heard about them has been nothing short of gleaming. Apart from the steep price.

But you get what you pay for, and they are some seriously light, strong wheels!

I want a pair of gold hope QR skewers, preferably with seat clamp to match. Unfortunately mine are fine at the moment. Damn it! Why don't the things that you want to pointlessly change ever break!

I wanted to change my Metas wheels, then promptly 2 spokes and the freehub broke. Hence getting some Stan's Flow Hope Hoops this week :)

To be honest I'd rather they didn't die so spectacularly though, I wanted to use them on my commuting bike.

  • I once spec'd a custom build to see how much carbon I could get onto a bike...

    Wow that was expensive.

I like titanium atm though... thinking of spoiling myself when I get home from uni

I sold my GT - hence having the money to upgrade the Quake (two bike are MORE than enough for me these days) but it's hard having all that cash and spending it (it was always meant to be spent back on my other bikes)... but you know what excites me is waiting for that big old box to arrive from CRC full of Saint goodies....

had a chat today with chap today (who bought the GT from me) about it - we men never grow up in terms of mechanical lovliness... / new parts / we love it

    35 and a big kid! :lol::lol:

I can;t wait (even though i know what's coming) to get my delivery from CRC

i did have a minor no make that Major Dribbling moment over the Fulcrum Red Carbon mtb wheels, that would make the only things on my bike no carbon would be the forks and stem! (was a carbon one but got a shorter one to try out!) but there is Possibly a stage where you have Too much carbon!

those I9 wheels are Bl##dy Ansome though!

Matt, what have you started! you could be the cause of Mucho inhabitation of the dog house this weekend!:wink::D
