The carbon forks look totally wrong for that. If you are going to make an art statement then do it all the way.

Reynolds forks. I have them. They're lovely. But not on that bike.

It looks even worse with the ITM stem. And is that some sort of ergo-friendly bar they've got.

    All wrong.
Exactly. If you must make something like this at least put an aero C record seatpin and some 80's Cinelli bars/stem on it

So far I've got to the point of having the option to upgrade.

    The choice is this:

    t_BRV77xx.jpg

    or this:

    t_BRV75xx.jpg

There's a cash requirement to upgrade to either. The red one would be cheaper. The black one would match Bike 2. I've had the red one before and sold it because I didn't really like it. This time I'd put up with it, treat it with abuse, and put black electrical tape over every bit of red on it like a courier wannabe. They should both ride the same.

    Views from the massive?

  • You've had the red one before and you didn't really like it but you would get another one? Doesn't make any sense to me. IIWMM, I would go for the '08 RS. Simple as that. Longer head tube makes sense, different geometry to the soloist and the R3, less sporty but more comfortable. The S3 you won't get in the Olympic colours anymore, that was a limited edition thank goodness imo, yukk! But the standard black and silver model is imo yummy and no, you can't fit certain wheels with it, and you can't fit Campag Record with it. But I would have it if I had the money. Over three grand for the frame, put DA on it and appropriate wheels, and there you go. Lovely. Elegant and I bet it goes like hell!! :D [/i]

Yeah, I agree, not liking something and going back to it is a bit silly. A bit like a bonus sh@g from a former girlfriend, I suppose (God, it's years since I had a GF who isn't Mrs G66  ).

I want the same geometry for both bikes. So the RS is out, precisely due to the longer headtube. That and the fact it's too much like the R3SL that I already have.

Apparently the Campy Record thing was an urban myth. The wheels problem is true though, and both sets of wheels I have are confirmed no-nos on the S3.

Remember, this is supposed to replace my winter hack, have the same geometry as Bike 2, and allow me to swap wheels between them. It's all gone terribly wrong already. An S3 with 7900 DA and deep aero carbon tubs - well, it's not really an ideal solution to my problem, although it is, no doubt, an ideal solution to a different problem that perhaps I canmaybe one day engineer.

What is it with Cervelo riders and bad backs? Do you think there are some mechanics where the cracks in the seat tube have been propagating in to the riders spines? I don't want to worry Cervelo riders but it's food for thought

RS would be good with a bad back. My R3 is an appreciably more comfy ride than my SLT is or my SLC was. And you've got the taller head tube ...

Nothing in particular AFAIA. As with most bikes, it comes down to personal preference. Why are you considering it?

Nothing wrong with it at all, sure 'tis a fine bike. It just seems to be rather popular with middle aged high earners who have recently taken up cycling. Typically dentists...

This point was rammed home to me at the Etape where there was a preponderance of Roubaix's bestridden by corpulent middle aged men.

I want a second bike - I like the shape and the raised headtube appeals because I don't like a truly aggressive riding position and still want to use the drops.

You can achieve a more relaxed position by inverting the/buying an invertible stem. This will raise your drops. A Roubaix, or any other sportive bike, is designed for hours and hours in the saddle, be it on a sportive or for long rides out in the country. You won't find yourself riding on the drops for long periods during such rides.

  • Well in support of DDD, I have a long-ish head tube on the Maxima because of my irritating long legs-short body combination.

And yes, Greg, as you recommended when I tried on your cervelo.

Riding a bike with a longer head tube while I was there was like a revelation, finally riding a bike that actually fit me. As a result of that I will probably not ever consider a bike that doesn't have a longer head tube.

So for some people it's because they need it.

    OK? ;)

It's worse than you think. It's been under the stairs for months. I changed the principia frame on my commuter for carbon one because the rear dropout wore down and the wheel wouldn't sit straight. I really like it now so I have this superbike gathering dust under the stairs never ridden. I was going to bring it to the alps on holidays in june, but will probably bring my other one so I don't know when I'll get it out. One day the time will be right. I don't want to take a bike I haven't ever ridden before because i once did a marathon in runners I hadn't worn before and lost all my toenails because they were too small OOOUUUUCCCCHHHH!!!!!!!

i'm another long of limb person, luckly the old bike i picked up for beer money is a big old bike so does fit me, the size of the head tube is just silly though being a old bike is all thin spindly steel.
