Pro Tour Pundit 2009
The Tour of California is almost upon us, and you know what that means... the much anticipated return of Pro Tour Pundit!!
How To Play
If you want to join in with Bikeradar's favourite cycling prediction game, it's very simple. All you have to do is pick the rider you think will win each of the races listed below.
A few days before the start of the listed races, just look for a new PTP thread started in the Race forum. The thread will contain links to a start list, route info and so on: just post the name of your rider in that thread. If it's a stage race, you also get to pick who you think will win the individual stages. You get no extra points for picking KOM or points winners, so just stick to naming an overall winner and stage winners.
2009 PTP Calendar
Bit of a rejig this year:
Out - The Olympic RR and TT, the Deutschland Tour (cancelled)
In - Eroica, Vattenfall Cyclassics, two Women's WC races
We'll see how the women's races go. If everyone picks Nicole Cooke it could be a bit dull, but the Women's RR was the best race in all of 2008 so it deserves a chance this year.
Points System
The scoring system has had a bit of revision too. The points for one-day and GC winners stay the same, but stage-winner points have been extended. This way, you can still score a few points if your GC rider abandons or finishes well down the rankings.
Past Winners
And if you pick well, you too could join Bikeradar's illustrious list of past PTP champions. Will Richrd2205 become the first punditeer to win the title on more than one occasion? We'll find out in October!
Good luck everyone!

Great stuff, afx237vi. I ducked out last year as I worried it would be too addictive! This time, I'm in. Thanks for your contribution to this, it promises to be a lot of fun.0
-
Think i'll do it this year too 8)"A cyclist has nothing to lose but his chain"
PTP Runner Up 20150 -
I pitched in at MSR last year and dipped in and out. Hopefully I can keep in touch with the PTP this year, I've already been watching the form books like a professional gambler!!!0
-
Let the games begin0

Here we go...
trust me, it is addictive... I had to find internet access at many places away from home last year whenever I realised a race was due !!

Wrong thread, paul (but duly noted)0

Whoops, i got too excited0

Good to have PTP back: it gives us all a focus other than the doping rumours
GroupOfOne is the one to beat: the only top 10 from every year!!
Last year was easy to pick with the politics of the races & Astana being excluded; this year the politics are far harder to work out. I'll be happy with top 20....0 -
& forgot to say...
Thanks once again to afx for organising all of this!!!!0 -

Not much change after MSR. FJS and scwxx77 both picked the same rider... LangerDan drops down a bit after Booned failed to deliver, and calvjones replaces him in 3rd place.

Bit of a change in the podium places after the Crit Int, with scwxx77 taking the biggest hit. He was the only one of the leading players not to pick Jens Voigt for the overall, and subsequently drops from 2nd place to 9th. Ouch.
FJS still has a pretty hefty lead, with calvjones going up to second and 2007 PTP champion andyp moving up to 3rd.

Do we have to wait until next season to bin the Crit. Int.?Winner: PTP Vuelta 20070
-
Sorry man. Thems the breaks. Dunno why but the Crit Int seemed way below the radar this year... it's usually the biggest race of the weekend, but was a bit ignored by the cycling press this year. Maybe all the cycling journalists decided to stay in Spain after Castilla y Leon.0

More effort into PTP and less into GILS is needed I think. Season is early yet.Winner: PTP Vuelta 20070
