See post above. Last year a number of us were out at varying times in the week and there was a regular Weds evening ride. Am sure people will start coming back out again soon when the weather and conditions improve0

Hi Andy, I'm usually around during the week after work.....(with a bit of notice)

Hi Guys
I'm new to the forum and new to mountain biking in general really as a proper hobby..
When the sun was shining in the summer I took abit to much enjoyment out of stealing my dads half decent mountain bike and spending my weekends riding along the tow paths round stourport/kiddy/cookley etc..
Part of a new years resolution to get more into biking I invested in a GT Aggresso XC2 a few days ago and i'm very eager to get into the wyre forest and have a blast around some of the trails. Wouldn't really know where to begin looking though, the last time my dad went running in the forest he got lost for hours on end lol.
Would be nice to come along and join some of you for a ride in the Wyre at some point if you don't mind a beginner tagging along :P0 -
Hi Lysergic...
We normal have a social ride on Sunday...but we going to Afan this weekend!Biking whore of Wyre....rides with anyone!0 -
Fair play will keep my eyes posted on this thread then for the next time you meet up around the kiddy area.. I'm in the unfortunate position at the moment that I dont have a car/bikerack so going futher afield is abit of a hindrance... May well just have a blast along the muddy tow paths to Wolverhampton or somewhere this weekend instead then..
Cheers for getting back in touch Sarah0 -
No worries...but if you do want to come on a ride let me know..i might be able to find someone to give you a liftBiking whore of Wyre....rides with anyone!0

Hi lysergic
I live in the forest and commute by bike to work in Kidderminster.
The most direct route, along the cycle path past the safari park, would be about 6km.
If you head down the canal towards Stourport though, there's several ways of getting on to Sustrans Route 45 over Burlish Top and in to Bewdley.
Once you're in Bewdley, head up the river to Dowles Brook and in to the forest.
You could make a loop by returning through Arley and Cookley and back along the canal. A bit more interesting than riding to Wolverhampton, although a bit hillier as well.
Out route from last Sunday.

Unfortunately, my bike's an atheist.0 -
Happy New Year all!
Having only managed to struggle up a snowy/wet/cold track near Abberly over Xmas we are looking to get out and do the W Forest on Sunday morning.
I know you regulars are off to Afan but is the Forest rideable..generally?
We could stick to the fire roads but is Camber useable?
Thanks

Hi all
Finally got to have my first blast on the new bike since last riding properly in the summer and must say my fitness levels have certainly depleted somewhat and i'm only 23!! I guess smoking doesn't help..
I went to stourport on somewhat of a muddy tow path today and was sad to see how slow I went, I'm not sure if it was a combo of wind in my face, stopping for a 10 min cig break, having to adjust saddle or muddy tow paths, but it took me probly 25/30 mins to get there (minus cig break)
Not to sure how long the trails you guys ride are, but may need to get some training in beforehand to avoid being left behind :P0 -
Hi Lysergic - don't worry about the speed or lack of it - my wife and I went (mostly) along the fire roads/blue route from the WF Visitor centre and it varied from ice/frost/wet mud/grit/gloop - the latter especially along the return track from the bottom of Camber.
Two hours of that and we decided to call it a day - very sludgy going... :?
We never seemed to get above middle ring/mid gear, mind you this was our first Forest ride since November so we were a bit out of condition too....!

First time in there in got to be 8 weeks, it was muddy but fun and okay, kinda slow, took a lad out for his first ever MTB ride.
Don't attempt the bit to the right of the Secret Garden, whole sections been tree felled and wrecked.0 -
Did KTown to cookley to stourport and back on the tow paths today with a few stops at local pubs on the way lol... happy to see the puddles on the tow paths have cleared up somewhat but still alot slower than the speeds I was getting in the summer... Bout to jump in the shower after coming home covered in mud, nice to be able to pressure wash the week old bike which came home today looking liike sh*t lol..
Look forward to meeting you guys, like I say I need to get my fitnes levels in order first. What sort of age are most of the riders who are doing the weekly Wyre meetup?0 -
We're a pretty varied bunch Lysergic the youngest guy is 18, the oldest is 66
I'm taking another guy out on Saturday....whos a notive and also says he pretty unfit ...Feel free to tag along if you want

hello all,
Just registered on this site and looking to tag along with some rides around Wyre forest and the local area.
I am fairly new to mountain biking but have ridden bikes for years.
I'm getting some practice in over the chase at the moment but looking for some decent rides closer to home (I live in Wordsley nr Stourbridge). I'm also keen on finding some routes round clent (not been over there on my bike for over 15 years).
I'll be keeping an eye on this topic and hopefully catch up with some of you soon.
Hope the weather improves, tried a run on Sunday but it's very muddy and hard going.
Cheers
