Anybody like to lose a stone by March?

Just had a look at the wheelers website and see they are doing the winnats pass on sunday....
looking very tempting, but I will still be on a slightly old MTB, and so wondering what kind of pace you will be doing.....would love to have a go and join in but not wanting to be holding the group up
Re hills in cheshire...there is not too much north of maccelsfield..although it provides a nice warm up in getting to them .....but there are a good load near there - check out the route for the cheshire cat at the end of march if you are interested....0 -

If you can average 15mph over 60 miles you'll have no problems, thats pretty much the ballpark for the shorter runs 8)0 -

^^^^^^^^ thats where we got to yesterday, starting at parswood.0 -
Cool thanks for that. Im still not sure about the Winnats ride. I think i could hold you back if im not 100% and if the descent is icey. And id possibly get dropped on the way up too
Is there the potential for a saturday ride yet?0 -
Also, do you get many people on cross bikes? (32mm tyres)0

<smug git ON> I just lost about 5lb over last 2 weeks now that I have started *training* again, and have lost some more this week too despite mounds of dirty food.0

Better then being from the NW I'm originally from YORKSHIRE but now reside in Cambridgeshire - no hills for miles - unfortunately.
I work in kilo's and have gone down from over 105 to around 88 (before xmas) which at 6ft 2 inches means my BMI is around 25 (waist is 38 in). I reckon a good healthy weight for me is around 75 kg so loosing 6/7 kilos by March would be great.
I've already signed up for the Mad March Hare and the Lakeland Loop (why!!) so need to loose the weight and get a compact.
Count me in please.

I lost 6 stone in 6 months last year. wasn't really planned but it was more the results of a student budget sub 500 calories a day diet. It allowed me to finally join the army as I always wanted to do where I met one of my now good friends who got me into cycling.
Back then I was 21stone but am now hovering around the 15 mark (probally more after because of Christmas now!) I've sort of hit a level now where I just can't shift the last lots of fat round the usual areas. I'm up for the challenge, been stuck on 15 stone looking for some motivation for a while!0 -

there's a flat 60 miler on sunday too
not sure which one i'm doing at the mo, still not feeling 100%0 -
A_N_T - would I be ok to turn up for either ride on my bike? it is a sort of mtb/hybrid I guess...but I am able to make it move around 12-15mph for a few hours...
should be on the road bike by mid jan.......but I could do with a full workout over a good route.0 -
no problem at all. Upto you wether you fancy a hard hilly 70 or the easier flat 60
im 70:30 for the flat at the moment!0 -
I have seen a bit of the route for the hilly 70....
As it is the first weekend of the new year...start as you mean to go on I say....
...so the hilly 70 for me.
although will see what the weather is like on the morning0 -

me too! and also how this bloody cold i cant shift is doing! Metcheck is saying -6 on sunday morning! :shock:0 -
I really want to go along to the 60 mile one but now instead of a bad chest its the cold weather making me errr.
Minus bloody 6?!!]
Out of interest, how bad does the weather have to be for a ride to be cancelled and how do you let people know? I would only back out if it was very cold (=icey) or very windy. I can cope with lashings of rain.0 -
minus 6.. mmmmmm
well a quick warm up and then everything should be okay...just nose & lips which get the cold - everything else covered up!!
following on from bluecow's point - how do you inform people if a ride is cancelled due to icy weather..?0 -

Its not the physical cold that bothers me. Its the ice!0 -

Generally make an educated guess. If you think it's icy and don't fancy going out don't.
I've been on icy club runs and we've cracked on with the ride, and then decided to cut it short once we've all fallen off
There probably won't be anything on the forum/website.....0 -

A flat 60miler is never that easy when Martin is leading
The last one I went on, I got caught out when it turned into a chaingang :? and I wasn't concentrating :roll:0 -
At least it looks like it will be nice & bright....
slightly differing prediction re temp too :-)

have a quick look on the wheelers forum if in doubt but only 1 ride has been cancelled this year and the leader got to the gateway to tell people! If it looks/feels dangerous to you then it probably is for everyone else so stay in bed
sunday _should_ be ok though.0 -
I've just noticed this thread. I need to lose at least a stone (probabaly 2 stone).
I live near Todmorden (north west) so I'm up for this challenge!0 -
OK, interested, I need to loose weight - at least a stone - and a recent dose of flu (proper wipe me out flu, not manflu) has scuppered my riding for the last 3 weeks. I'm now recovered, but with Christmas excess...........
I've got a place on the Cheshire Cat Sportive, so need to be using that as my target, would hope that a stone weight loss before then is achieveable.
Prior to flu I was going to spin classes twice a week, and riding on a saturday, up to 60 miles of hilly stuff towards the west pennines from home. Average speed nothing to write home about.0 -
I'm doing the Cheshire Cat too...
That's my target, before I try my hand at racing...0 -
Between November and February I managed to drop 6 stone. But I was kinda tubby to begin with so had lots of fat to spare.
Over the past few months of not training (at all) I've managed to put about a stone back on - so over the next few months I shall also be trying to lose 1-2 stone. Would like to be 2 stone lighter by April-May (and I still have enough body fat to spare to do it!).
Good luck in your quest - as I shall be going through it also!0 -

What i propose to do to get us off to a start is have everybody mail me their address so i can add it to this list (if you're comfortable with that) and each week i will start a thread on the training forum (each Friday) where people can list their short (eg: losing 2 pounds a week) and longer term goals (i.e. completing Cheshire Cat in under x minutes) but most importantly what you've done in the past week, and anything you've been particularly proud of (eg: got my ass out of bed for a 70 mile club run even though the weather was miserable) or <ahem> less proud of (eg: Those 50 chocolate biscuits on Thursday may have been a little excessive). You get the idea...
Anybody have any suggestions? Please feel free to add me to your msn too.
Cheers,
Helen x0
