I peeled off from Al in Morden - even with Al's two p**ctures (within a couple of miles of eachother - bad luck in the extreme, and I lent him a tube!) I was back by 1.20pm. We TT'd it along the A24 at 23-25mph and there was a guy in a Merc AMG who couldn't get away from us because of the lights as well as the fact we were giving it some. In fact it was only about an hour to get back from Box Hill, which was really hooning
In the end 55 miles on the nose, and well under 3 hours actual riding, but owing to the fact I hadn't stopped the clock for Al's first p**cture but the training log says 16.2 for what it recorded.
Oh and a new PB up Box Hill 7:07- nothing earth shattering, but not bad considering I hadn't got warm after a little stop for maintenance.
Anyway - I will try go get out a few more times this week. I am sure I will get dragged out by brother in law, and he goes really hard, so maybe I will have another pop at Hillingdon on Boxing day(and the day after!).
Anyway, better go clean the bike... it looks grim after all that submarining round the flooded country lanes.0 -
Felt like a French Foreign Legion punishment exercise at some points today.
Cold + thick fog + 2 punctures + 1/2 a foot of water on the roads + hangover = lots of grimacing.
James really put the hammer down. Left me way behind on the Box Hill climb - I think he did 7.07, I was 8.10. Let's hope the nappy changing can even things up a bit
Must have been really bad flooding last night as we waded through more than 1/2 a foot of water (where the black ice was the week before).
Despite all that, a good ride and the shower I had on my return goes into my top 200 -

Took me 1 hour to clean the bike, another hour to clean the bathroom before my other half gets home.
You clean your bike in your bath?! I'd probably get shot for that
Well living in a small first floor flat I have little in the way of alternatives. Missus doesn't like it but realises as long as I clean up after myself theres little to be worried about.

The benefits of Parque flooring and 2 absent flatmates!
And I use baby wipes to clean my bike which is actually quite a clean way of doing it 8)0 -

Ha! Nah - only took me 40mins or so, and that was after all the filth had dried on!0
-
I use warm sudsy water outside, then teflon spray it all down..It's the vibe of the thing.0
-
Minei is all clean now too - I have a garden to clean mine in! Soap, water, some deagreaser and it all looks bling. The only thing is that I get really irritated by the scratch on the right brake lever when it really clean as it stands out like a sore thumb. Maybe I should see about getting a replacment.
Anyway it would seem I am going to get another 50 miles on the bike tomorrow, so I am pretty happy about that...0 -
The emu wrote:That might work on your frame but how do you clean your running gear?
Trust me, they work wonders! 8)0 -
Baby wipes.. I like where you're going with that.
Perhaps we could ask Felgen for a few spares.?It's the vibe of the thing.0 -
Might ask for baby wipes for Christmas. Do Rapha make these? :roll:0

They do, but they already come in poo brown colour :shock:It's the vibe of the thing.0 -
as mentioned above, I have several packs of baby wipes. I am just off to sneak one from the packet and try it on the bike 8)
Am itching to go out and ride - quick 3 lapper maybe... :shock:0 -
Well I'm not convinced on the drive train - coiuld see myself using a full packet on my rear cluster alone, but willing to give it a go.
More pundits who use it here - http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopi ... sc&start=0

Seriously, used 2 on my cassette yesterday, and it was filthy!! Fold once, fold again, feed between sprockets, pull backwards and forwards - done!
Back on topic... Who's about and when for a ride next?
I might not be about until Sun 4th or later now, but likewise may well be riding to and from Worthing a couple of times over the Christmas & New Year break - anyone is welcome to join me, even if we part ways somewhere in the Surrey Hills! Or it could be an option for some of you to do the full journey with me and then jump on a train back to London from the Worthing / Brighton area...
Should also be racing @ Hillingdon on Sat 3rd.0 -
I may be around on the 21st Dec. After that it's Jan 3rd/4th - We might be able to set the fastest Box Hill climb of the year0
-
I am around for the whole of Chimbo - everyone came to us this year instead fo us travelling- plus this time I have a ready-made riding partner in brother in law. I got an email saying he was in Spain and was getting drunk mainly and had done no training, so could I please stop riding so much so as to not make it too painful for him when he comes back tomorrow
Anyway we will see what happens over christmas, and I am going to be available for pretty much all of it, so post up if you are planning laps or somehting.0 -
Not sure I'll make this week, but as a side issue...

Have talked about it briefly in the past with some of you, but whoevers keen on taking on 200km of the pyrenees with 10,000 crazy spandiards (Al and I are for 2) can you PM me your email address so we can have a conversation offline and start thinking about booking accomodation - this is a popular ride with the spanish and early booking of accomodation is essential.
Cheers

I can't afford Quebrantahuesos this year now, but it's got to be done next year for me.0

Rich, what have you gone and bought now  :?:
I am very keen for the Spanish Quebrantohuesos thing. In fact I have fluent spanish speaker staying here, so I will ask her to see about accommodation if you like Wilf. As for the money, well it will be tight, so the independent way is the only way to go. I would even consider driving down and sharing fuel costs etc...
p.s. Just back from the park having done a 3 lapper. Not much fun - freezing cold, and really hard work, and got distracted chatting again. I started off on target for 56 minutes but it all went wrong from there. Average HR was significantly up compared to my PB run - I guess part of that means it was harder work with the conditions, wind, extra clothing,0 -

You're an ideas man Wilf!

Just tightening the purse strings a little (for once in my life!). I'm still eyeing up a few things, but holiday and new bike plans for 2009 are being mostly shelved for now...0 -
Doing the Mega route - 150 miles of it. And don't be fooled by the claimed 5000m climbing, I put the route into some mapping software and it came back at about 6100m. [/quote]It's the vibe of the thing.0

Oh and myk-ee that Dave Lloyd thing looks pretty hardcore - how much is it, and has entry closed already?0
