Seriously though. I was at the pub once (not SCR beers) and upon hearing that I rode a bike, this random bloke was trying to get me to do the naked bike ride. I was being polite and said I didn't think I could do it naked but perhaps with a bikini on or something. The man got quite worked up and started saying loudly 'NO! You have to be NAKED!' at which point I decided to go and talk to someone else...

Erm what sort of pubs do you drink in :?
Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.

In principle, I'm interested. However, I'm hoping to do the Fred Whitton earlier that month, so could be tricky...

I did have other clothing on as well - don't even want to think about what a saddle could do riding in the buff

DDD - count me in. Gives me a focus for the cold winter months of hell...

Jerseys sounds good too - What about hats? People need hats and gloves, socks, lycra....oh my god...an entire skinsuit!!

Let me know if you need a hand as I often order rowing club kit and have to go through the sports supplier rigmarole!!

Hopefully, fixie will be built and in use by then too!

It looks like the 'Ring trip has moved, so I could well be up for this. This being the original ride and not flouncing around in the buff with DDD

  • *returns to internet after weekend away from it and finds she's doing some kind of nude bike ride*

Meh? When exactly did I sign up for this?

    Damn you cheap lager!

I actually think cycling naked for any distance would probably not be a comfortable experience.

On the old commuter it would probably be OK actually, but not on anything else.

    Aaaaaaanyway.
  • FFS, I just read through 7 pages of posting gold (except that picture.........WHY DID I SCROLL!!!!!)
Naked bike riding for any distance just sounds un-comfortable, I find it bad enough sitting atop my saddle with cycle shorts on to provide a soft cushion between my gluteus maximus and the fizik bike interface!

Anyhow back OT, it does look rather interesting but AH BOLL0X! I've just realized the date........that's my wedding anniversary!!! FFS.........

Now I have the difficult task of deciding is it worth getting a divorce just to attend this event? HMM........not likely as I'll end up penniless and unable to buy an uber bike worthy of this expedition!

On the SCR kit tho it does sound like a good idea, I mean soon enough we might have enough of an SCR following to topple the Dynamo's as London's biggest club :-)

The key is to stay out of the saddle at all times while pedalling, then sit down and coast every now and again for a rest. Friction problem eliminated...

I forgot to mention a liberal coating of Vaseline on the saddle helps, or KY Jelly if its a Brooks, the petroleum in Vaseline would stain the leather...

The nose of your saddle is pointing forwards, right? Towards the handlebars?

  • all the chamoix cream in the world wouldn't be able to help you here.

I fret at the thoughts of several hours in the saddle in the knowledge of the full comfort that proper padded shorts afford me. I can't imagine the horrors that would befall one's nethers after some time spend pedalling (sic) in the buff!

Not to mention what it would do to the bike!

Though seeing that pic of Victoria Pendleton in the Observer last year did get my attention somewhat (ahem) up

My saddle has a gap in the middle this worries me, what if I fall through and get stuck....

    Yes, for me that's possible.

  • Digging up this old thread (and hauling it back OT), I see that there are more details now about the BikeRadar sportive:

    http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/20077

Entry is £45, but this includes the weekend pass to BikeRadar live, which is otherwise £25.

I'm up for it - who else still is?
  • Hmmmm, in my mind I've been kind of shooting for this as a 'let's see if I've recovered from the whole achilles thing' event....

So on that side, yes! But really, I know me, and I am not getting to Donny for 5am on the saturday... that's far too early.

Now, the 100k or the 100mile....?

    Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Possibly in a parallel universe - I wouln't mind having a go but my bike is not exactly sportive material
  • On the parallel subject of shirts: I've done a quick bit of research and found some good stuff. There is a company called Conquest Bikewear who do custom bike kit. You pay 50 quid up front as a design fee, then can buy shirts, shorts... endless collection of stuff, all in your design. If you end up buying more than 20 items, the £50 gets refunded. Prices look like about £27 for a SS jersey, £32 for a LS (plus postage). All seems pretty reasonable... especially given that you get a full design service so should end up with some decent looking shirts

ITB, I think you had looked into all this - is this similar to what you found?

So, the next step is to get some design ideas...

    So I guess that's a "no" then...

I don't think it's a no as 99.9999% of us on here a bike tarts of one form or another (Jash, Greg, LITT, attica, et al) I think it's just no one has really put forward a good suggestion.

    I think....

For me black is the new black and as I do not have the speed or skills subtly is essential

  • I reckon we need to get MTFU into it somehow. I am not creative or artistic, so that's my only contribution to the discussion.

Oh and I support the use of black.
