Bike Radar Live

There appears to be a Sportive at Bike Rader Live (May) 2009.

If its an anyone (limited numbers) can enter situation then I'm calling for a Team SCR to step forward and enter! Though its not a race we can still fly the colours (Red Black and White).

We could even have two groups so that we've got the super fast SCR players and the slightly slower SCR riders like myself.

I'm so excited at this prospect and enjoyed (from what I can remember in my drunken state) myself at the X-mas party that I'm even going to suggest (seriously) collectively paying for Team Jersey's to be designed and made...
Food Chain number = 4

...yeah,yeah,yeah for team tops 8) ...but a nice "relaxed" casual style please... :D

...would they be brave enough to allow us a SCR stand at the Bike Radar Show?

I think they should give us a stand.

Why wouldn't they, SCR embodys the competitive human nature (your going to ride further, faster etc if you have someone with you than on your own - psychologically prove) and we promote and give advice about save riding and sensible cycling gear that tends to bridge the gap between racing and commuting - The amateur cyclists art.

I'm so stoked I'm already thinking about Jersey designs!

    +1.

Didn't ITB post a great website the other day that do custom cycle kit?
  • Do you have to ride an SCR to join in? My SCR is on a TT bike so not ideal for a sportive

But I could join in your team ride my Cycling Plus Team Issue Felt (I've already got my place in the sportive - gratis :D ) with fellow C+ members Dan, Howie and Karen. If you can keep up with us that is...

(It's the free jersey rather than the camaraderie of riding with fellow minded cyclists that tempted me to ask...!)

Yes (assuming I am able to at the time...)
Swim. Bike. Run. Yeah. That's what I used to do.

  • I'd defo be up for that! Haven't been to Donington for years...

I think I'd definitely be in with the slower SCR-ers. I'm not good at hills.

Saying that, I am planning to have a shiny new bike by then, so hopefully having the gear shifters on the handlebars will have had a positive impact on my climbing.

If it means buying more cycling related kit then i'm in.

An SCR stand would be a great idea, goes perfectly with the SCR Samaritans line...

    "MTFU, next....!"

We could have our own Marshall's too, beating slackers with the soggy remains of scalps.

I'm going to keep an eye on this and find out if the Sportive is open to the er public.

In the mean time, I'm officially now in training for summer '09, next you see me I'm gonna be sportin' a 6 pack!!! Weigh around 13-12stone and have skin so tightly wrapped around my muscles both LiT and Jen would be willing to share me

    My training montage:

Drink raw egg and milk in the morning
    150 situps
    Bicep Curls
Push the BMW 5 series up a hill on my own while its in first gear
Ride my bike around the block several times.
    Skipping rope
Punch meat hanging from a ceiling
    Run up some steps
    Pose in the mirror!

Here, given I said 'if only I'd known' :P

DDD - I would have thought it was open to the public, and if there was any kind of selection process, I would hope an SCR team would feature on the priority list.

Speed is a matter of perspective and experience. If you've never ridden at 17mph before then the first time you do it, it's going to feel fast...

That said, I don't think I'm all bluster or slow. I just have no stamina. Though everytime I ride with the SCR crew Bassjunkie, Greg66, CJCP (I think I was attempting to follow him after the X-mas party) I seem to be astronomically slow in comparison.

You should ride with me, DDD! Speed is relative, you are right, but I hope your intimation that I have never topped 17mph is illustrative rather than an assumption

I'm not the slimmest of people or the fittest. I've always loved cycling - ever since I was a bad boy (10 - 14) riding the mean streets of Brixton on a Raleigh 'Even More Extreme' that came with discs.

Ever since getting back on a bike I promised myself a few life changing things (involving a bike) for this year and beyond.

This (Sportive) is one of them.

No, no 17mph is purely illustrative, though it is my comfort speed. A few months back it was my effort speed. I need to do some serious work on my stamina and breathing.

    I'll ride with you definitely!

The trouble with 17mph is that Hybrids and slick tyre Mountain Bikes can also maintain this speed. Being on a road bike going at 17mph is like being in a Porsche and only being able to get up to 60mph on the motorway...
