Some sad news.

This is shocking and very sobering.
Gatsby was one of the regulars on here. He always seemed driven to get fitter and ride faster, his cycling exploits and training miles amazing us all.
Gatz, I never met you in person but you came across as a genuinely good bloke. If anyone said a cross word to you on the forum you never rose to it. Cycling has lost one of it's own.
I can only think of his family, in this awful time.
Rest easy man, rest easy.0 -
I can;t say any more than has already been said. RIP Gats.0

A phenomenal character.

Can we fix it?

That's dreadful news.
May he pedal on strongly in his new commute.
Condolences to all family, friends and those dear to Gat's heart.0 -
That is very sad news. I'm fairly new to this forum but it doesn't take long to feel like you get to know people through it. Mark obviously had a passion for cycling like all of us on here (well maybe more than most). I will think about him on my way home tonight.0

Very sorry to hear this.

I am new to this forum but do see how well you all tend to get on.

If there is a cycling heaven - he's probably on his second lap by now.
It's terribly saddening to hear this news and wish all his family and friends the best in this tragic time.0 -

This news comes as a terrible shock and is very upsetting to the cycling community on here, most of whom had never met or spoken to Mark. One can't begin to understand how his family and partner are feeling.
My condolences go out to you all. It may be twee to say it, but at least Mark was doing something he loved when he was killed.
I would also like to just remark how incredibly dignified both his partner and sister in law have been in their communications on here. Your words and comments are a credit to you. You have acted with such dignity in this terrible time that it is humbling to read your posts and emails.Want to know the Spen666 behind the posts?

Tragic and saddening news.
Gats shone bright on here, you could almost taste his burning enthusiasm for cycling. His mile eating feats won my admiration.
My thoughts are with Ellie and Mark's family at this time.
•"Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgiastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter--tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther.... And one fine morning-- So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."

Very sad news. I can't do anything more than add my voice here to those offering condolances.0

Tragic loss, I hope his friends and family can draw some strength on looking back at the great times they had with him. Yes, life is cruel - but the good characters make it all the more bearable!
Hopefully he is looking down, with a beer and a smile thinking "Well thanks for that, now get out on your bike you big soppy fool!"
RIP big fella!0 -

Truly horrendous news. Never met Gats but I'd like to echo the sentament of others on this forum and say that he will be missed.
There's a beautiful spot on one of my regular routes where I always stop for a breather. Next time I do I'll take a moment or two and offer up a few words for Gats.
My deepest sympathies for all.

This news is hard to understand and take in.
My sincere condolences to the loved ones he leaves behind.
I never knew Gats other than through this website but he was one of those guys who made you want to read his postings and I for one will miss him.
I too will say a few words for him when I'm out on Sunday morning.
Rest in peace.
I learned from reading other tragic news of not to ever go up the inside of a lorry when it is at a junction, it may turn left and trap you.
If we can learn something from these tragedies then their loss has in some small way perhaps helped others. Can anyone advise whether it was at a junction , from behind , built up area , country road ?0 -
Sad news indeed. Nothing more to add but as with everyone else's messages, can only offer my condolences.

Very sad news indeed. I suspect most people on this forum have never met in person yet this still feels like the loss of someone I knew. RIP dude.
