There but by the grace of God go all of us. I am so shocked and despairing. Is this the horrific and inevitable consequence of commuting on Britain's roads?

I remember Gats as a complete nutter when it comes to mileage on his bike and someone who must have eaten like a mouse on his rare, begrudging, rest days. I always admired him for that and a lot of his "oddities" resonated strongly with my obsession for cycling.

He was always genuine and engaging on these forums. Of course he will be missed.

    RIP.

My most heartfelt sympathies for all his family and loved ones.

I didnt know you or speak to you, but every cyclist is a friend.

I commute everyday and we all do it, not because we cant afford a car or we are enviroment friendly but because we love it!

He died doing what he loved, and im sure his loved ones could find some comfort in that.

    Rest in peace bud.

Likewise I never knew the guy but it's terrible news. Every time someone posts on here to say they've had an accident it reminds us how vulnerable we are.

My thoughts are with his family.

    Rest in peace, Gats 8)

very sorry to hear this tragic news. My sincere condolances to his girlfriend, family and friends .Perhaps we could consider keeping this thread as a permanent tribute to Mark on the forum
  • Hi everyone my name is Ellie

i am Mark's girlfriend. i just wanted to say thank you for all you kind words. He really was a crazy nut when it came to riding - but it was the bike that kept him sane. and he couldn't live without it.

and yes that is his forearm. It reads 'Livestrong'

i now have to try and do just that.
  • I didnt know him but he always sounded like someone who enjoyed life and tried to wring as much out of it as he could. My condolences to his family and friends. RIP Gats.

That's such horrendous news, all my sympathies to Gatsby's girlfriend, family and friends.

Gatsby always made me laugh, posting details of 4 hour rides at 8.30 in the morning after he'd returned from an outing. He'll be missed.
  • I really cant believe this terrible news.
Gats was clearly completely bonkers about riding, I used to love reading his 4 hour ride reports BEFORE I went out!!!
My heart felt thoughts go out Ellie, family and friends at this tragic time.
