Weather warning for Ireland and Scotland, storm coming Saturday afternoon into Sunday.

BBC weather site showing 52MPH winds for Sunday and gusts to 90MPH.

Hoping to get out for a bit of mileage Sat AM before it all kicks off, though newborn twins :cry: kept Mrs McC up most of last night, any suggestion of a bike ride may lead to a good kicking

Nick, I believe it is allowed for it to be a gusting sidewind as well, but *never* a tailwind.

Got out for 15 miles or so, I am informed tomorrow is a housework day!

Did a 8.75 lap (the coast road circuit used for the Northwest 200 - if you are into motorbikes you'll know what I'm on about), thought about another full lap but the storm had kicked in and I cut out a couple of miles.

EDIT - can verify it was gusting from left, headwind and gusting from right.

Gah. More ice, frost and wind this weekend.

No fair. Some of us have monthly targets. Always next month I suppose.

    Roll on summer.

OK, OK, I enjoyed the crisp mornings, frozen fingers, hot aches and all that the other week, but I'm getting bored of winter now.

    Roll on spring!

What! You aren't wearing shorts already!!!

although to be honest it was a wet cloudy day with the temp near double figures just after the absolutely freezing weather. Haven't done so again.

Has been horribly windy here (South Wales) gusting to 40 mph according to Met Office and Heavy Snow warnings for Monday and Tuesday!

Monday was fun. Powdery snow. On the hardtail for a change. Good stuff.

Last 2 days not so much fun. Adverse camber on ice. Wet slush etc

And there's more snow coming tonight. Pah. Bored with winter now.

I want to start working on my cyclist's tan.

How is it that every frozen pond has a traffic cone in it, is there some agency tasked with issuing one cone per pond should temps drop below zero???

I had my first ride on Sunday without full winter wear, could spring be on the way :D

  • Hmmm quite possibly

I flirted with the idea of bib shorts rather than bib tights this morning, but chickened out and went for the tights... Probably a good idea in the end.

I had wall-to-wall blue sky on my Saturday ride this weekend. Went out in shorts and jersey, although I did have arm and leg warmers on!

Spring does indeed seem to be here :D

Cue 2 weeks of rain.......

The trouble with this in-between weather is you leave home in just about enough clothes then half way through your ride the clouds and or rain comes in an your left freezing cold miles from home - or is that just me :(

  • I did shorts today but regretting it....legs are aching somewhat.

No scull cap or buff either. Really nice to feel the air rushing through my hair....reminds me of a Blackadder quote:

Lord Flasheart: [Flashheart rests his feet on Baldrick's back and sighs] Have you any idea what it's like to have the wind rushing through your hair, George?
    Lieutenant George: No, Sir.
Lord Flasheart: [Flashheart breaks wind in Baldrick's face] He has!

    It's baaaackkkkkk

    Winter that is :?

Just got back from work , horizontal hail into my eyes for 6miles

Anyhoo, possible snow the rest of the week.

I would just I like to thank the police car that nearly ran me over tonight, I was coming straight through a roundabout and he slammed on as he saw me at the last minute ... even though I had FIVE lights flashing away.

I did shout C OCK at the top of my voice , but unfortunately the hail and wind must have drowned it out.

Last night was one of those "WTF" rides when the wind kept bringing me to a sudden standstill. Plus rain and hail in my face. Didn't really give a sh!t to be honest cos I was still fuming over stuff going on at work. Enjoying the new job but it seems like the old boss can't cope without me and keeps pulling me back to the old, crap job via my new boss. Grr.

Spring was back this morning though :D

Was so glad not to be riding last night. The gusts were massive and coming from literally every angle. Nasty nasty biking weather, especially with aero wheels!

I got my lazy arse out there this morning and it was FAB!!!! :D okay so it's not shorts and t-shirt weather but even so, the sun is out blue sky and warm, on top of which I seem to have loads more energy.

Is this the calm before the storm....?

One of the few good things about my commute is that it's along a major bus route, so I can always try to draft behind them on my way home.

I heartily recommend it. You get out of the headwind, get some shielding from the rain, and the start-stop nature of the buses as well as their higher peak speed means it's basically interval training. Rest while bus waits at stop, sprint half a mile to stay in their wake, rest at next bus stop.

As long as you don't mind lung-fulls of fumes whenever they accelerate :?

I'm getting quite good at doing accelerations from the lights whilst holding my breath, if I'm stuck behind a bus.

You don't need to be hard up against the rear of the bus. They're pretty big, so there's relatively still air for at least two or three car lengths behind them.

Maybe I'm just becoming desensitised to diesel fumes.

Some of the buses round here are old bangers with fumes billowing a car length or two behind. I can usually spot them on the road with the black staining up the back end.

    Brrrrrrr!

It took a couple of minutes to get car heating to exactly the right temperature this evening.

Then I was just toasty
