    Surreal. Not funny but surreal.
edit. I get it, foot in mouth.

I ordered one of these on Friday, looks rather dull but it is sportwool and worth a punt at £30. If it`s crap I will wear it for mountain biking.

Yesterday lunchtime went for a wander and 'happened' to end up in the LBS

Ended up with a pair of wraparound glasses with clear lens and an inner tube. I did need the inner tube (bruv is resigning as my personal mechanic :x ), and the glasses weren't that necessary but they do the job better than my previous, highly scratched pair.

Now I just 'need' to get: overshoes, windproof top, red pedals, lights, shoes, waterproof trousers, red helmet, panniers............................. How did I ever get through last winter without these delights?

Voucher arrived today, so hopefully I'll be collecting this bad boy at the weekend, if it has arrived at the shop yet.

Still waiting for my Phil Wood hub thanks to the f***ing postal strike.

Called Royal Mail today. They didn't know where the package was (no sign of the original US tracking number at all on their system despite being posted 18 days ago by the chaps at Phil Wood).

They gave me the number for Royal Mail's customs helpline. I called. The guy was quite helpful and was able to find the parcel from the postcode and name. He said there's a charge of £27 (don't mind too much as it's the last hub I'll buy for a very long time) and it was sent to my local sorting office on 12th July. Then he gave me a new tracking number (dunno why they can't use the original US one, they all have the same format across the globe - international agreement between post offices).

There's not been any card through the door so at this point I was wondering if I'm just meant to guess when the package arrives.

So I sent my good old dad down to the sorting office to see if he could collect it on my behalf.

It's not there. Hasn't arrived. Apparently anything that needs to clear customs has been affected most by the current strike. They'll pop a card through my folks' door when it arrives as posties aren't allowed to take any money on the doorstep.

Sigh. I just wanna get the hub so I can measure it up and order the spokes. Was really hoping to build the wheel this time next week as I'll have the flat to myself and therefore the necessary zen-like peace required for wheelbuilding will be in plentiful supply.

    Ho hum.

I don't care about paying the £27 charge, that's fine, so why does it have to take them three weeks? The flight from the USA to here is less than half a day. What the hell have they been doing for the other 17.5 days? And why can't they update the tracking information on the website in the meantime if they're going to keep people waiting? Neither of the numbers I have (the US one nor the new UK one) show anything. Useless.

And don't even get me started on their telephone menu system... It's actually designed to make you more annoyed at them, I'm sure of it.

I have just bought more Nuun tablets, SRAM powerlinks, Park chain cleaning liquid (since no-one has been able to tell me what much much cheaper stuff I could use in my chain cleaning device), another Knog Frog for the fixie (pink natch) and a second titanium bottle cage for the Focus.

Why do you need to measure it up? You can get measurements from their website.

    I know but:

    A) I like to be sure.
    B) If the hub had arrived in time (which it still might, to be fair) I would've had plenty of time to measure it 'to be on the safe side' before next weekend.
    C) The way it's going I might not even have the hub in time for next Friday, let alone the spokes.

Yay, Phil Wood touring hub now in my posession. Duly measured up and now 44 Sapim Race spokes are on the way to me courtesy of Spa Cycles, who had Sapim Races for half the price that SJS were selling DT Comps for, plus Spa sell individual spokes rather than bags of six. Only downside is they're in 2mm increments rather than 1mm at SJS but I can live with that.

New wheel to be built this Thursday/Friday.

That's an Element Zero Assos gilet. Even with 35% off it is still £99.99 !!!
My top of the range Gore Xenon gilet was 35 quid
The gilet I had before that (which was quite ok) was 15 quid

Got myself a new bottle cage from those people in Portsmouth who don't give you sweets :x and left it at work :x so can't fit tonight, will have to take the tools with me tomorrow.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
