ITB - light working well on the 3 settings the only issue was the wireless computer not working initially when the light was on the low setting - weird. Moved the computer 1 inch across and it now works fine.

Can't fault the light and for £50 or so it's a bargain!

Right then first commute since the big freeze, i'm chock full of Turkey "Natch!" and new cycle kit, so thought it might be useful to review some of the stuff i've acquired recently.

An old one but still a classic, my Polaris Satellite jacket is still going well, not as waterproof as it once was but great value and performer for the money.

New tesco thermal base layer kept me warm whilst struggling along this morning but shockingly bad at holding water sweat/rain against my skin, not what you want when your standing on an exposed train platform in sleeting rain, brrrr

Conti Spike claw 240 studded tyres - holy moly those things grip, the added weight of two x 900g plus the already monstrously heavy FS MTB made for hard going, all good training i'm sure but not something i'd want to do on a regular biases. Will review in more detail once the next batch of snow & ice settles (this week most likely). They do make a rather cool crunching noise. :D

DX P7 light, interesting this one, sure it's bright, compact, light, smart but is it that much brighter than my Halfords LED???? i'm not so sure, i'll have to do one of those comparison tests, still it was bright enough to light the way both in front and to the sides, I did have to check behind a couple of times to make sure that there weren't any cars creeping up on me, what with the light and the tyre noise.

Edinburgh Cycle Revolution light, very very disappointing, I had to put my hand in front several times just to check it was on, in the end I opted to use the flash mode, just tested it in the office with new more powerful batteries and still the same - lame! easily the least powerful light in my growing collection, could have bought a much better unit for £20.

Rechargeable batteries, AA & AAA seems good so far, nice and bright in both the front and back.

After last weeks cold & frosty weekend rides I bought myself some Pro X-pert gloves good for -10 and matching Pro overshoes, more when they arrive.

The "Turkey" is waiting for me at home, curried!!!

That's still "only" £450 for Dura Ace CL wheels, rather bargainlicious I think.

Finally plumped for the Garmin 705, HR and Cadence, with City Navigator DVD, 2 x SD cards, additional cadence/speed sensor and additional bike mount (enough for cadence on 2 road bikes, and a mount only for the MTB - don't need cadence).... not using it on the fixed commute bike though - got a Cateye double wireless on that for now, and it's only 6 months old). All from Handtec...saved a fortune compared to 'the usual' sources)..... :)

Not sold as bike gear but Aldi are selling some ski stuff, so picked up a fleece top, a polo necked top and some long johns. Will use them under my cycling kit to see if I can keep some of the cold out.

Good value too at about £6 per item even if they are crap in the event.

Do it now - before the VAT increase - think of it as a saving as opposed to buying it in 2010 ;-)

  • What is this item?

Steerer cutting guide, makes it easier to cut a straight line at the right angle when you cut a steerer.

Yeah, sacrilege I know but I can't afford a new pair of shoes etc to go with SPDs. I already have egg beaters. From what i have read they work fine on a road bike, although obviously no one will speak to me at sportives etc but does this face look bothered.
