Hi,
I live near Grantham which seems very un catered for in respect of mtb routes. I ride around Bourne Woods quite alot or just venture out on various bridleways. I do not have any knowledge of any clubs near me.
CheersIf i am going out on one i am happy, If i am out on one i am happy, If i have just been out on one i am happy, otherwise miserable!0 -

There are some great routes around Lincolnshire. The wolds (viking way inc) are great to follow and if you go to http://www.bicyclemania.co.uk/ there are some great routes too. Have fun!!0

Jboy, I live just north of Lincoln and usually ride XC around the Wolds which is about a 20 min drive from me depending on where I want to start from. There is some good trails to ride up there, you're welcome to join me. What sort of riding/distance are you wanting to do? I have routes anywhere upto 60 miles which are a mixture of off road and tarmac.uttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2453/3644058624_66a72402ee.jpg/]Hardtail0

ACDCwmb,
I also ride XC but i'll be honest,i've never ridden over the wolds as ive only got back into biking bout 18 months ago. I usually ride round where i live,Laughton woods,Sherwood pines (always a good blast) now with its improved trail network and have ridden a couple of enduros.Distance wise for a normal ride varies depending on terrain but should be good for 30-40 miles up the wolds.Cannondale Carbon Rush 4 08

I love riding round there, mainly because it's pretty much on my doorstep but I also like to travel a bit further now and again just for a change. I like enduro stuff and have done quite a few.
The Wolds doesn't have any massive hills, it's mostly rolling xc so you tend to go up and down quite a lot, nothing too technical but a good variety of stuff to ride. This time of year it's pretty hard going in some parts, the mud up there is something else, very heavy and sticky but over the summer when it's dry "cough cough..." it's great.
I usually start out from Willingham woods and ride out up onto the Wold tops but there are plenty of other places to start from to get in a few different loops. I'll have to get over to Sherwood Pines to try out the new XC route there.uttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2453/3644058624_66a72402ee.jpg/]Hardtail0 -
Would be good to go for a reckie up into the wolds sometime,im only 25 mins from willingham woods and the mud doesnt worry me too much, before fitting my 09 crud catcher, all i seemed to do was wear and (eat) the stuff!!! Wife was never impressed when i arrived home!!!!
Have you done the 'Bicyclemania challenge' before as im looking to ride this event for the first time?? doesnt look very technical as the pics on their website suggests buts its local so no complaints.Cannondale Carbon Rush 4 08

Did the Bicycmania challange last year, the weather was great and it was a good day, well a good few hours anyway. 40 miles on the dot, lots of short steep climbs and it was a very dry, fast route. I've done that loop quite a few times, it was well marked and organised. Not technical at all but a good blast.
The week before I was down in Wales for the "Marin Rough Ride" which was bloody hard, extreamly hot, 75km and about 7000 ft of climbing  , I stacked it on a mad desent at 44mph! Still managed to complete the ride though with a bit of a buckled front wheel and I was still pretty sore when I did the bicyclemania. My first enduro this year will be the HoNC in April which gives me something to get fit for after Christmas.
This time of year I try and get out at the weekend either sat/sun for a ride so if you want to join me anytime your welcome. I've only just started back on the bike after a 4 month rest due to a bit of knee trouble so most of my routes are pretty tame at the moment as I can't quite manage any out of the saddle hill stomping stuff just yet and I've had to slow things down a wee bit but I'm getting the mileage back up though.uttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2453/3644058624_66a72402ee.jpg/]Hardtail0 -
Thanx for the invite.i work shifts so full weekends off dont come as often as id like but im sure we'll work something out.The only event im down for this year so far is Clic24 Enduro in the Mendips, would like to do more but its just convincing my mates to have a go. Bicyclemania is a definate also.Is there any that you reccommend for a novice like me!?Cannondale Carbon Rush 4 08

I think the HoNC was sold out after 5 days of opening on the 1 Jan...only managed to get in last year at No 1082 of 1100 so I made damn sure I got in early this year. Last year was a long hard 100k, just about the hardest xc I have ridden, very hard going in the mud and I was compleatly drained afterwards, can't be any harder this year...
I was very lucky with the crash, soft landing though and lots of crashing practice
How long have you had the Rush, what do you think of it? I was looking at one of those to build up for a xc/marathon bike, but now I like the look the new Anthem X frame for a fast short travel full suss but at the moment in light of current affairs I can't justify spending all that cash on a new frame so I'm saving slowly and I'll keep on riding the hardtail till the summer.uttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2453/3644058624_66a72402ee.jpg/]Hardtail0 -
Ive had the Rush for about 6 months.Awesome bike but has'nt been without its problems. After about 4 months,I notiiced that the rear mech cable had been rubbing against the carbon frame in front of the B/B.Cable runs down the down tube through 2 cable guides and then away to inside the chainstay to reach the mech at the other end.Must of been on the initial build of the bike that the cable wasnt pulled down far enough as pulling it down about 3/4 inch further brings the cable away from the frame.Being a full suss and over time its worn a groove into the frame....Not Happy
Going back to Leisure Lakes in a fortnight!!
Already replaced the rear mech (xt) as i got half a tree stuck in there on my first ride in Laughton woods..
Also... my Fox float RPL blew all its oil seals after about 3 months (lost all control of my pro-pedal switch)...had to be sent to Mojo for repair....Lost a week there
Apart from that...Its been a Beaut!!!!!
All said, its a fast bike, especially up-hill,with a full complement of XT Gear components,Fox 32 RLC 120 Forks, which is plenty for what i want it for and for the overall design of the bike.Supplied Hutchinson Tyres are real fast rollers but are very avg on muddy trails, which i change sometimes to Maxiss High rollers (super tacky 42a) but these are so slow on tarmac you almost dont need Brakes as they will slow you to a standstill in no time..But they look cool so they stay on and it makes me work harder in training!!
Avid 5's are decent stoppers with plenty of feel to them, but sintered pads seem to wear out quite quckly tho....might try organic next....on Fibrax's versions at the mo.
There's some good deals around at the moment for 08 spec bikes but i hear what you say about difficult financial times. :roll:Cannondale Carbon Rush 4 08

Hi, what was the outcome with the cable rub on your frame? BTW don't bother running organic pads till it starts to dry out, the mud will eat them up, the sintered pads in my juicy fives have lasted well although I will need new pads on the front soon, reckon I'll get a few more weeks out of them yetuttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2453/3644058624_66a72402ee.jpg/]Hardtail0

Ive not got sorted yet with Leisure Lakes as ive been mega busy with work commitments and have had to postpone for a couple of weeks.
Have you been out much recently despite weather conditions,if so,whereabouts?Cannondale Carbon Rush 4 08

The weather hasn't put me off yet I don't mind getting cold, wet and muddy as long it's not blowing a gale, still get out quite a lot although I've to re-hash a few of my local loops as some of the trails are getting pretty trashed by 4x4's, horses (& bikes  ) Still very muddy everywhere though. I'm running a bonty mud x up front and a trailraker on the back and so far that combo has been great, very draggy on the tarmac though.
Went out on Sunday for a 30 mile loop up toRothwell/Swallow and back to Willingham. Weather was great, very, very cold but clear and sunny fair bit of snow(lots in some places) and ice  made things interesting especially on the ups but all the mud was frozen Pleased no one saw me doing my "dancing on ice" impersonation in the middle of the road on a climb, cleats and ice...doh! Passed a couple of guys on mtb's looked like they were heading up from Rothwell and lots of the red sock brigade dotted around but other than that it was pretty quiet.uttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2453/3644058624_66a72402ee.jpg/]Hardtail0 -

Have you tried the trails round Twigmoor Woods just off the A18 opposite Corus? Ive only walked round these woods. Its not a huge area but has some cool swooping singletrack.Theres also Laughton Woods on the way to Gainsborough near Scotter.Ive ridden there a few times and theres loads of trails to go at , Its a little bit flat for my liking tho, depends what you like riding!!Cannondale Carbon Rush 4 08

I'll have to get over to sherwood pines some time soon, I'd like to check it out, looks like it could be a fast place to ride during the summer. I have a GPS route of the new xc course, before all the signs got nicked :x I've also got a few longer routes around sherwood forest.
Was out on Saturday for a 50 mile xc ride around Binbrook, nice and hilly  weather was great but the mud was something else  in some places I had to get off and drag the bike(too heavy to carry) as the wheels and frame were compleatly clogged i.e. no tyres & spokes visable!! Reckon I'll miss out those places next time out.uttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2453/3644058624_66a72402ee.jpg/]Hardtail0 -
Cheers jboy im new to the whole biking scene here so didnt have a clue where to start. might go down one night after work in the car to have a look and a quick bike about before it gets dark. im presuming there are signposts etc so im not gona end up stuck in the woods on my lonesome! :?0

There are a few signs around Twigmoor but as i said its not a huge area and i believe alot of it is fenced in round the perimeter so you shouldnt get too lost.Let me know how you get on!!Cannondale Carbon Rush 4 08
