  • Job = Computer_Programmer, c++/dotnet;

    Company business = (Theft / Extortion) / Financial_Services;

    Given the correct definitions, the code above will compile. Which is geek for humour.

    Took my daughter down to the creche she is booked into (for the next 2 weeks anyway) in my cycle gear. Silver shoe covers, yellow cycle jacket, gloves, helmet on, as I brought her in where other children were playing.

    My girl was screaming her head off as she usually does when dropped off. The room however (full of usually hyper children) was silent, a kind of stunned silence, with mouths open and eyes wide at the sight of me.

    What, they've never seen a spaceman before?
    'Twas Mulga Bill, from Eaglehawk, that caught the cycling craze....

    An Account Manager in Media Information and Monitoring Company.

    I view the forums between tasks/projects/whatever they're called this week to retain a sense of normality and keep track of the important things in life - like riding my bike to work as fast as I can; scalping anyone in the way.

    That's exactly how it is for me. The only time when I feel that I should not be on the forum is when I drove to work -- it happens about 10 times a year and everyone can tell when that happens: I sulk the whole day and I need a coffee to start the day.

    Run a PR company from home with my wife.

    I actually "commute" five miles away and come back again every day for exercise and to wake myself up!

    Just had (two weeks ago) our first baby so I'm doing most of the work for a while!!

    Ah, yes, the fake commutes. I do that when I work from home; my neighbours got used to this, so they're not all too surprised to see me arrive at 8 o'clock to my front door again.

  • Lawyer in (what's left of) the City.

    The work hours means I don't often have traffic worries on the commute - always nice and quiet (and mostly always dark). :(

    General IT monkey for a print company.

    I spend a disproportionate amount of my time writing scripts that do most of my job for me.

    I don't pedal in (motorbike) since the hours got quite variable, but I keep my bike here for fake commutes during my lunch hour.

    After having seen so many posts from people, and realising the one thing in common we all have is that we cycle to work, I am fascinated by what you all do for a living....

    I'll start...

    I am a secondary school teacher (languages). The street cred I lose for parading through school at the start of the day in my kit and looking a bit hot and sweaty is (I think at least) made up for by the fact it is quite a long way, and I have a very nice bike. Or they are all laughing at me behind me back. Frankly I don't care anymore.

    How many Greg's and how many Lawyer's are there on the site? And (never start a sentence with 'and' sorry Corriander) ultimately, how many Greg's on the site are Lawyers?

    Me I'm a professional pontificator - :lol: which in someways is like being a lawyer :lol:

    Seriously, I'm a Marketing Officer for a public funded organisation. First job out of Uni and truthfully would now love to work in the City in the Private sector but it seems like now is a bad time. :cry:

    I come on the website as a means to de-stress myself from the working day and because I want to.

    What sort of science?

    For example, can you tell me how long it takes before a wind turbine overcomes the carbon footprint of making it?

    Or is it more "I don't think its wise to splice pig genes into maize" advice?

    Not sure it ever does! Well the ones they've just built on my Dad's nature reserve won't. it's former marshland so they've had to dig very deep foundations which of course are full of concrete... grrr.

    Jobwise - I work for a business training consultancy, so if anyone needs any bespoke management, sales, comms etc training then let me know!!
