For example, can you tell me how long it takes before a wind turbine overcomes the carbon footprint of making it?

Or is it more "I don't think its wise to splice pig genes into maize" advice?

    isn't is something like 3, 6 or 9 months...sorry I forget :) I have a feeling it's 3 months

I think it depends if you ask the manufacturers, reduces geometrically with size (so the B&Q ones probably take about 250,000 years) and the figures are only valid for average wind speeds measured on Cairn Gorm.

Sometimes I'll say I'm a taxman, as my company (First) don't have a very good reputation and that occupation has an easier time than mine !!!!!!!

Fancy doing a little work on the side? Put some more cycle racks in the carriages
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • I wish !!

They wouldn't even answer my questions about the CTW scheme I badgered them into, they went with some cowboy outfit. If I had taken the full £1000 I would have to pay back.......... £961.

Needless to say no-one took it up. Now next year they'll just say no-one is interested, blah blah.

So extra bike racks would never happen, it would take out seats for them to charge exorbitant fares for, and this comes from someone that had a slanging match with a colleague at bath spa 'cos I couldn't get my bike on the funking train !

    Sorry, but they ARE useless.

NO, I have a still pretty much functional washing machine in my hallway - do you do residences, and if so, do you do SW London?
  • Unfortunately not biondino, but I would be very surprised if there was not a similar project to us that does cover your area.

About 10% of our stock comes from household donations that we collect, with the rest coming from a high street electrical store (since summer 2007, old units have to be taken away by stores that delivery new ones, despite the impression that some tv ads may give you)... I have fun for a few hours late afternoon, spotting about 10% of the potential units to recycle from these old units!

We typically cover an area roughly triangular in shape from Blackfield to Hamble to just north of Winchester, although we supply some goods for British Heart Foundation in Bournemouth and Worthing.

Primarily, we supply units for a charity called SCRATCH, who try to help individuals and families that have fallen through the benefits net. The excess units are then either sold at our own shops or used to supply stock to other organisations.

Software engineer, doing J2EE e-commerce type work. I've been a web developer, IT support/security guy and joint-run a tech startup in the recent past and I'm currently trying to find the time to try and break into the indie games production scene. Got a new house to do up first though. I keeps meself busy

If anyone asks why I'm in IT I say it's because it's the only thing I was ever any good at, but really I do it for the chicks and fast cars. They'll start any day now, right?

  • Currently going through a period as an industry jonah - wherever I move to, the brown stuff hits the whirly thing.

I write software for a living having just moved into the travel industry after six years in the mortgage industry.

  • I'm an IT contractor, so I move every 6 to 12 months between gigs, normally in London, I specialize in storage and backups, design and support. So I guess I'm the keeper of the information.......currently working for a large Magazine house in Soho.
  • I'm an Asset Manager for the Commercial Real Estate funds of an Investment Management company, which specialises in hedge funds, securitisation, secured credit and previously subprime debt.

What all this means is that I'm likely to be unemployed soon!

My dream job! Thought you'd be at the Voiles de St Tropez this week - I was racing there last year and in between hairy racing moments against Wallys and Js managed to get some good shots (nowhere near your standard of course).

I've been a subscriber to YM and YW for years so am very familiar with your work and it's nice to have an opportunity to say how much I've enjoyed your work, whilst a) wishing I had your job and b) wishing I had your technical ability and c) wishing I had your artistic ability.

As I don't, I'm an IT contractor in the City....
