  • I will be in the park earlier than you guys are planning. Not sure how much use I will be as a training partner today as I have just finished a run of night shifts.. I will prob be in a CSC jersey on a Spec allez, if it's wet, or a cervelo R3 if dry. If you see me give me a shout and I will try and join you guys

Okay, cool. Assuming it's not chucking it down by the time i get home I'll be hanging around at the Kingston Gate roundabout at 7.30. Be cool to see some of you there. I'll be on a black and red spesh allez.

Sorry folks - talked myself out of it waaaaaay too early today with the inclement weather and couldn't get my mojo back this evening

Anyone up for tomorrow (Wed)? Around 7ish at Kingston Gate?

Weather isn't looking great again, but I'll do my best!

Ah well, you weren't the only one - I was on my own tonight, although the park was surprisingly busy for an almost rainy evening.

I managed a 62.06 for 3 laps anti which I was pretty pleased with. 10 seconds or so outside my PB, but with definite room to recoup more time.

    Next time maybe!
  • Technically you weren't on your own as I was there tonight but equally lapping on my own. Sorry I missed you. I aimed to get to Kingston gate for around 19.30 but was five mins or so late. The weather was actually pretty good and I don't think there was much wind around.

Managed my trio of laps in 58.32. Not bad but I wasn't totally focussed on the second lap so should be able to get down to 57.?? comfortably.

I won;t be ableto make any evenings for a week or so now but will keep an eye on the thread and let you guys know when I might be free next.

Right, a mate has challenged me to beat the 60min mark tonight - I reckon that's currently 5mins faster than I've got in me but I'm gonna have a bloody good crack at it anyway!

Not sure I'll be waiting anywhere to get started, and as yet I've no idea what time it'll be - but if you see me (red & white Castelli top, Campag shorts & on the bike in my signature) give us a tow!

Have been dealt a small bow in that the cyclescheme administrator has gone on holiday for two weeks and no one else can sign the form so I am looking at about 3 more weeks minimum till I get my bike. In meantime I will try and up the fitness (with a cheeky detour throught eh park and either 3/4 of a lap or more if I am feeling keen - look out for a guy on a yellow Cadex around 5.30-6.30pm) and will up my anti-emetic stocks so that I can both keep up and not be constantly wating to vom whilst tyring to keep up.

Oh and 62 mins sounds fine ;) if what people tell me that road bike is 15-20% quicker than an MTB...

Quite a few people riding tonight but nobody said hello!

Took approx 7mins out of my previous best but can't record it as an official time as my GPS died on me

Has anyone actually managed to get together in a group yet?

I am getting my bike soon, and would be keen to ride in a crowd, though I am sure I would do well to learn to ride it on my own first - then I can hover at the back of the group where I belong.

I've not yet - not sure if any others have.

Have to say both times I rode there last week there were loads of riders out but nobody seems to speak to each other! Only bloke I spoke to was an MTBer and I initiated that conversation having spotted his MTB pedals and shoes on his roadie! Poor form if we are ever going to start riding together!

If it dries up today I plan to ride this evening, otherwise any other dry evening this week is likely to see me riding. It'll probably be 7ish, and if anyone says they're going to be out I'll wait at the car park by Kingston Gate 8)

Yeah I have had problems too - wonder if its a quirk of Firefox, as internet Explorer at work seems to be fine. maybe a message to the mods can shed some light on that matter.

Funny you say about striking up conversation with people - I have done a few times, and cycling with someone else really makes the time fly - its much less hard work in a group. Anyway I want to try out my new Edge 305 sometime soon as well...

Safari at home isn't working for me but IE at work is now - not sure what's going on! Empty cache and restart tonight, see if that sorts it

Well tonight at RP is out for me but tomorrow is a distinct possibility if I don't hear from the Sussex MTB crowd regarding meeting them for a beer (they're riding at Leith Hill and I might be heading down on the roadie to hook up with them at a pub somewhere). May well have a gentle potter around for a couple of laps on Fri eve too.

I have a 305 too and have used it for a couple of years - not sure how much I could tell you or advise you on as I've only used it for basic stuff, but I'm happy to share my knowledge! 8)

Haven't managed to meet up yet. Popped out tonight at about 7 - managed 1.03.59 which considering the wind I was reasonably happy with... Next one Friday am; then probably Sunday - although depending on weather I might pop out in to Surrey if anyone's up for it...
  • There is a distinct possibility that I may be riding on Friday morning. I will let you know tomorrow as it depeds on my work schedule which as of yet is still undecided.

I am almost definitely out on Thursday, 10am, if anyone fancies it. I know it's last minute notice but I will check in later on.

I might have some free time Wednesdays and Friday afternoons coming up until October time(ish). I think I will be very very paranoid about taking the new bike to work, so might have to go home and swap before coming out again. If others are around, I have noted that the park seems to be pretty quiet early afternoon.

I went for a last minute spin last night so was there for 45mins or so from 7ish last night - loads of people about but only 1 or 2 nods again!

Planning a quick spin this evening if anybody's up for it? A slow-paced couple of laps from around half 6ish, maybe a little earlier or later... I'll try and be a little less vague in future though!

  • What you are about to read is weather dependant but if the weather is at least average then it will probably all happen. According to the met office we can expect showers, some will be prolonged and heavy.

I will be going to the park tomorrow, Monday. I have not set myself a time as of yet so could make it early evening or perhaps in the afternoon.

Tuesday will be a longer ride out over the north downs. Something like 60 -70 miles.

I will be riding on Saturday as well. Again I am planning a longish ride but will probably start with three laps of the park in the morning before boxhill or something similar.

If any of this sounds appealling to some or all of you then let me know and we can arrnage times and meeting places.

Likewise for me with the following plan:

I aim to hit the Park at least Tues & Thurs this week, if not Wed too. Tonight (Mon) and Fri are defnitely out for me.

I'll be there from around 6:30-6:45 Tues, probably a bit later Thurs (7ish at the earliest most likely) and plan to challenge my 3-lap time on at least one of those days - if I am trying for a decent time I probably won't wait around to be honest, unless anyone else is specifically running pretty close to the 60min mark and wants to have a go with me (last time around was at the 63min mark) in which case say so!

But all only if it's dry!

Dammit, forgot a couple of social events this week - Wed only for me now, and definitely for a 3-lap time

I was at one point, yes - if I'm not challenging my 3-lap time I tend to do a one or two laps in each direction.

I generally try and give a polite nod to most people I see so if there's someone with a black lid and silver glasses wagging his head at you on a bike that looks like the one in my signature feel free to wave me over if you want to hook up for a spin around! 8)

Dunno about anyone else, but I really think it'd be good to see this develop into a fairly regular meet once or twice a week - not a 'club' as such, but at least some motivation and commitment (of sorts) to meeting up with others for a decent training ride around the park (and to other places)... 8) :D

I love the idea of speaking to The Bombay Bicycle Club about part-funding for some cool (if slightly pink) shirts too... Maybe a little way off that just yet though eh?! :P

Top notch idea- and discount curry of course. Though note to self, not to eat anything hotter than jalfrezi before cycling the following day  Best thing is they have a branch just across the road from me ;)

I am pretty sure it was you I saw then Rich, will say hi next time. I am on yellow/black skinny tyres MTB (always going anticlockwise) usually with green backpack.

Anyway, getting back on track. I am hoping to get my bike in the build queue at planet-x very soon once I have answers regarding a few questions before taking the plunge. To quote a certain northern music group, once the bike arrives I will be mad for it.

What time are you heading out Jackal? And what sort of mileage?
  • I will prob be leaving the house, Teddington, at 10ish. I am looking for 60-70 miles so either a few laps of the park then up boxhill or all of it out on the north downs.

Depends if anyone else pitches in. Weather should be good with a light breeze

70 miles is probably a bit too far for me at the moment, but I might join you for a few laps first. if you still plan to head that way. 10 - 10.30 sounds rather civilised too :-)

THe other potential is to head straight out to Box Hill a bit earlier for a 40 miler.
