Silly commuting racing

Then, last Friday, he did a double-take, realising that I am in fact a midget with an over-filled rucsac on an over-sized steed. For the record, I haven't raced for nigh on eight months and got my a*se walloped more often than not when I did. Had I tried to overtake Thighs-on-a-bike this morning, he would surely have taken a deep breath and served up an almighty portion of Humble Pie.
Bob Jackson, eh? Mmmm. Lucky nephew.
Oh tsh! Come now cjcp! False modesty!
I am really rather glad I live 200 miles from the Embankment. I am sure I would be left for dead by all you steely-thighed Capital-commuting types.
BTW Did any of you see the Tour yesterday? How do their thighs compare, eh?Lish as uh stone pig-trough

I went to the tour yesterday. I didn't see a lot of their thighs because they were going so bloody fast, but from photos I think I have some way to go0

Glad someone got to see it, after all the predictions of doom and gloom for the weather I ended up calling it off as I didn't really want to end up dragging 2 wet kids round town! As it turned out it was dry all day (well it was down in my area!) so we went out locally :-(
Maybe next year!!0 -
Me and my wet-spaghetti-like thighs plan on seeing them Thursday, Stage 5.
Go, British fellas! Go!
Would just love to see Elliot to the fore! Crikey he's nearly as old as me! Maybe there's hope yet?
Saw him in various crits and when he won the Milk Race way back when. Even got to touch his Vuelta points jersey when it was on display in Dave Marsh's cycle shop...Lish as uh stone pig-trough

I'm going to see it tomorrow - I've got to "work from home" and then go to a meeting in Bridgwater so should see it twice - sweet.
'tis a shame Cav won't be there, but there are plenty of others to bow down before.
As for the commute, still nothing to scalp apart from cars and kids
However, got the kids seat for the mountain bike and cruised past several people on a sunday outing - only downside was waiting for Mrs W4ll... any extra points for singing while passing people?'07 Focus Izalco Expert - Hairy Baggy Shorts Roadie (FCN 5)

You don't really, but there is a resemblance - certainly that's what I thought when I glanced at the picture!
But no, I guess Serena Williams has curlier hair. You're right.0 -
This evening's commute was fun. Sheltered a London Dynamo (not Litts ) from the wind along Embankment for a bit before dropping him, although he caught up again at red lights. Two other roadies on the periphery of this, one of whom I towed last week - he still hates the wind . Last week, my rucsac was too heavy to get away. No such problem tonight. Dropped him through Parsons Green, but he caught up at red lights the other side of Putney Bridge. This allowed him to take shelter along Lower Richmond Road, so, not being burdened by a heavy rucsac, I decided to put my foot down. Cheerio.FCN 2-4.

New pb for the second day running on the way in this morning. But old 'FCN in triple figures' (Biondino, 2008) Coriander is too ashamed to tell you the actual figure. Still very happy though.0

Picked up many scalps along the way home yesterday on the London leg of my journey but none of them count as EVERY one was a RLJ - grrrrrr!

A combination of the kids going back to school, sorry, parents unnecessarily driving their kids to school, and a bad run on the lights made my journey a full 6-7 mins longer today. And I was not hanging around either, be it in Richmond Park or on Embankment.
On the plus side, I did see Richard Ashcroft crossing the pedestrian crossing with his kid on the way to school. Sensible chap - he was walking.FCN 2-4.

Yes - it's all a bit slo-mo at the moment. Too much traffic and road surfaces being a bit greasy does not make for fun at speed.0 -

Edinburgh is surprisingly quiet for traffic except buses at the moment. Probably because they have totally destroyed the roads and have roadworks all round town which are going to be here for months as they prepare for putting the tram network in. So yet more leathal things on the roads and these aren't even vehicles, deadly metal tyre traps built into the road. Oh great...FCN 7- Tourer, panniers, Lycra and clipless

You say on the plus side, and yet I haven't heard anything on the news about Richard Ashcroft being mashed to a pulp by a psychotic cyclist. I guess if he had his kid with him you're excused from bloody murder but next time okay?
I really struggled in today. I had a mile or two of keeping up with a speedy SS but didn't even try to overtake him, and the rest of the journey I was about 60%, just no drive and no energy. It's weird - usually even if I start off tired or hungover I get into mys stride after a couple of miles. Today no. Though I did manage to hit 24mph at the top of St James Street hill, but then I realised the fact that I couldn't actually feel any wind at all meant I had the mother of all tailwinds!0 -

We have tram's ruinning down here in Croydon, which is great fun as they run right past my parent's house on the main road so I can't really avoid them! Especially dangerous as my 700x25c tyres are just the right size to slot in them, the most important thing to remember is cross them at a sharp angle! My usual technique is to ride down in the middle of the 2 tracks as they come quite close to the kerb at some of the stops making passing on that side rather dangerous
Saw a rather amusing incident once with one of the local drunks on a clapped out old bike who was riding parallel to the rails, wobbled and got his wheel stuck and promptly fell off (rather gracefully I might add!) He promptly jumped up and starting tirade of words at the bike that would have made a sailor blush He didn't appear hurt and it happened on a fairly busy section of the road, thankfully no trams in sight!
As for my commute this morning, nothing of note really - the slightly damp roads and traffic meant I had to hold back on my usual manic descent down Knight's Hill. Caught up with a few RLJer's in the Stockwell -> Vauxhall stretch but nothing new there :-)0 -
This is odd........not so much as a peep all day?? As I'm working in London I can rule out nuclear attack taking out our biggest posters as I think I might have at least seen that :-)
Meh, might pick up this evening......I'm off in 15 - just hope it's a bit busier then this morning :twisted:0 -
I was thinking exactly the same thing! Where are the regulars? I just realised that the food shopping I just did doesn't have a hope of fitting in my small rucksack for the commute home - and I'm making a posh dinner for the missus this evening. Oops.0
-
I'm in bloomin' helsinki!
It's usually quite fun - all the hotels hire out bikes, but it's absolutely hossing it down, so cycling is out of the question - I have to look smart for me meetin's innit! But I hope that tomorrow will be better, although I couldn't get a room here so have to go to Estonia to sleep for the night.... FFS... I wonder if I can cycle round there...
And CJCP, if your rucksack on Friday was anything to go by I'm amazed you can even get on the bike, let alone zoom around London on it... get some panniers you nutter!0 -
It's the calm before the commuting storm...
LIT - yep, that's not unusual. No way am I getting panniers!
If it's any consolation (which it won't be given that it's probably very dark and very cold where you are), but it's wet and cold, and not very light here.FCN 2-4.

I've been out of the office all day; just come back to find almost no new postings. Most odd.
And it's p!ssing down again. Hurrah! Not. Another wet @rse ride, shoes in the dryer, etc.
I once went to Condor to buy a waterproof top. The guy who runs the clothing section told me that London Cycling or somesuch had done a survey once and proved, proved, I tell you, that on average a commuting cyclist will get rained on 11 times a year.
Now, I am am prepared to assume that the statistician [sic] who did this survey had a pen. And once he'd used that, and all of his fingers and both of his thumbs, he'd used up all his ability to count the rainy days.0 -

They seem to manage alright with them in Amsterdam and hopefully it will reign car drivers in though as they'll no longer think of themselves as the only people on the roads. A bit of try your own medecine really as a car being hit by a tram is a bit like a cyclist being hit by a car...mmm what a warming thought :twisted:Roadie FCN: 3

Well I've been busy doing some work all day for a change. Nothing to report other than Mrs Littigator is still off the bike for another week, physios orders so that leaves me having to struggle in all alone...at light speed
Anyway, yesterday after getting home I had to do a big shop at Vauxhall Sainsburys and took my mahoosive rucksack with me, (about 60 litres), filled it to the brim with what felt like lead weights and then proceeded to try and pedal home.
The worst thing is halfway along Nine Elms Lane , I got passed by two MTBs and that I was it. I couldn''t help myself. Instincts overode any sense whatsoever and I was OFF!
Needless to say I arrived home in a jelly legged state of near cardiac failure

just checked the link for first time - very funny!
Took a different route home today, taking in more hills then normal (I'm a bit odd like that.......) so instead of going Brixton-Streatham-Thornton Heath to avoid the hills in Norwood and Crystal Palace area I just rode straight over them  The only problem is that it's a bit quieter for other cyclist's on this route. Nothing above me in the FCN but I did do a near perfect "I'm not trying" pass on a guy who was struggling with his hybrid up the hill. I glided past - barely breathing - at about 17mph :-)0 -
Bit more fun on the way in today, or should I say a bit more fun once I got past Stockwell :-)
Pulled up at one of the set of lights and a few seconds before they change a SS rolls up alongside me and executes a lovely trackstand!
WAHAY I think finally a challenge :-) We pull off and I start to work towards the small cogs at the rear and reel him in and take him before the next set. Round 2 me thinks when who should appear with us? Another roadie!! On a Ribble :-) The cyclist's are starting to get like buses - I wait all my commute for some competition then 2 turn up at once So the 3 of us are lined up waiting for the lights to change - they go green and we're off. I Immediately move past SS guy as I push a higher gear to start off with this time and start chasing the Ribble rider down. I get him a bit further up but I'm starting to feel it now. I manage to put some space between us before my turn, but as I slow for the sharp left (doing about 20mph and still braking) a guy on a hybrid comes flying past BEFORE the Ribble guy  I'm fairly certain this guy wasn't at the lights with us so he was really shifting!0 -
I had a soft collision with a car today. It was my fault so I didnt even swear at the driver. Other than that, no action. Windy today as well.
Does anyone ever alter their route massivley just to give chase to a possible scalp? I did yesterday, was in the filter lane to turn right and a SS flys past. I think for a second 'should I chase' and before I know it Im squeezing through spaces in the cards nodding to the drivers and I get adjusted to chase this bloke...
