Silly commuting racing

Was woken form my sluber in the park by a guy on a Cube. No racing, but it meant I upped the pace, so thanks for that.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

To the guy with the Beano shirt from West Wickham on the recumbent who I could keep up with on Anerley Hill but then repeatedly handed me my scalp all the way to Fulham through the teeth of an evil headwind – chapeau sir! The only reason I managed to catch up with you occasionally is that recumbents are shee-ite at filtering . . .0

Some early competition this morning from the outskirts of Tooting up to Clapham South. A tall chap wearing a distinctive red and green chevron-ed jersey, riding something black with red anodized hubs. Don't normally get any challenges that far south, and only managed to get past with a lucky approach to the lights at the southern end of the Dragstrip. A quick check at Clapham South lights, and I couldn't see him, but had to sprint up the rise from Balham to make it stick. Foof!
All quiet otherwise, apart from a lorry who objected to me overtaking someone without waiting for him to go past (he was a good 20-30 metres back). Green lights all the way from PS to Thames Street1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

Shaven-headed, man-mountain on a white/red Trek anyone?
He could motor on the flat when he felt like it. He zoomed up Millbank. SCR was annulled along embankment due to traffic. I was just able to overtake through blackfriars tunnel. I was definitely trying but I think he was too. Chapeau, sir.0 -
Got gnarled up in traffic a bit this morning, which meant a bit of shadow boxing with a chap on a blue Sigma with tri-bars (anyone on here) and a chap on a Scott with flats and legs twice the size of mine - I'm guessing a rugby player - so quick off the mark, but tired over distance. Just as well he had me to shelter him from the wind down Millbank and along Embankment to Temple. :PFCN 2-4.

Yes, yes yes! My greatest scalp. You couldn't script this if it was the Tour of France. Probably my greatest ever commute.
Tooting Broadway tube, I'm joined by a single speed, another dude on a road bike and a seasoned commuter on a early Y2K Trek road bike. I know Y2K is the beans.
Brash and bold I look them over, they, more sheepishly, assess each other through the corners of their eyes, not giving away the fact that the moment the lights go green, it is a race, it means something and it most certainly does matter. Amateurs.
The lights go green.
Bam, Bam, Bam.
All three greet the junction with a half rotation on the crank, clip in the other foot and power down. I'm happy at the back waiting to see what happens, secretly impressed with the pace. I had to change up a gear. When the incline hits I'm thinking no way can these guys maintain this. My experience sees me true. The other roadie starts to falter, the single speed doesn't answer just slows with him. They've got nothing. I on the other hand channel 'The power Schleck' pull wide and drop those two back into the stoneage. I give a cheeky look behind me into the past to see nothing but broken grimaces and pain.
The guy on the Y2K Trek was strong and managed to keep the pace. I match him about to make my move, he feels it. Ahead the lights are green and I can sense a phase to red coming, I back off. He doesn't, RLJ's. In my heart I know and I suspect in his, he knows.Food Chain number = 4
A true scalp is not only overtaking someone but leaving them stopped at a set of lights. As you, who have clearly beaten the lights, pummels nothing but the open air ahead. ~ 'DondaddyD'. Player of the Unspoken Game0 -

If I'd realized it was you I would have said hi. Well, it would have been hi as an asthmatic warthog would have said it. That kick through the tunnel was all I had and I was glad to turn off afterwards
Really good speed up millbank BTW. You had 20m on me from the lights and I couldn't close it down at all.0 -
To the guy on the yellow steel frame, burd on the Condor with the curvy top tube and the
guy on the blue-hybrid-looking-messenger-bike-single-speed-thingy.
At my speed when you looked back I guess I must have looked like this:
T'was most fun.
If you want your scalps back they'll be dangling from my bag.
I love being back!Food Chain number = 4

Beast of a wind on the daily TT this morning meant a measly 16mph average was all I could muster. Meh. Bring back still, scorching summer days!0

Rode to Chichester on Sat (88 miles) then on to Fareham on Sun (25miles) so fully intended to take it easy this morning. Managed that for about 10 mins til a guy on a Boardman with mudguards went past me leaving Greenwich. Against my legs better judgement I went off after him but he held his pace all the way through to Bermondsey. I took the lead for the last stretch but only as I felt he had taken enough of the wind by then, no scalping intended.
Good pace sir and thanks for the tow.0 -

Likewise. I twigged it was probably you through DSC when I saw a distinctive tuft poking out (from your cap). But VB lights were a bit full so I hung back. I really didn’t want to put myself out there but my hand was forced by traffic.
I knew I’d need to carry some sort of gap in to the tunnel but couldn’t muster anything after HoP with plenty of traffic to disrupt the flow. I was doomed.0 -
Totally destroyed my legs in the Surrey Hills yesterday, and opted for a "recovery" day of Brompton/train.

I haven't been keeping track of SCR, but I was coming towards the end of a 30 mile cycle on Sunday and a younger lad (though I'm only 27!) overtook me going up a hill.
I appreciated the wake up call as I was taking it pretty easy, I kept up with him for the next 3miles+ until he turned into his home.
I thanked him for the wake up call, but he had his earphones in.
Oh well0 -

Just got back from a cheeky bit of on the job cycling and had a rather amusing encounter. I was heading back towards Croydon from Norbury along the A23 and picked up and overtook a rather tall chap aboard a hybrid just before the Shurguard Self Storage Place.
Now I wasn't hanging around (as usual) and was hitting around 25mph+ along that stretch but just couldn't seem to shake the bugger! I could constantly hear his transmission just behind me. When we got to West Croydon train station he pulled up alongside me and said "I think I should be thanking you for that training session! I've been thinking of getting a road bike!" I managed to blurt out a "you should, that was very impressive riding!" before the lights changed and we parted ways.
Jesus, if he was holding that speed on a sit up hybrid he'd be bl00dy lethal on a roadie :-D
Chapeau sir!0 -

Nice, last time I did one though I am sure it was about to go bang and stop.....
If anyone is going down FPR about 6:15pm, then I will hand my scalp over to you as I have legs of lead (Asprilla, you wouldn't even have to "put the hammers down".)"Bed is for sleepy people.
