With a username like that, you must be Bassjunkieuk's long lost brother.

    Or evil twin?

Welcome, and on that route, watch your back for a lady on a fixie turning the pedals very slowly, but whizzing along nonetheless.

So yeah, I got pretty wet.

presumably your waterproof membrane "skin" meant you didn't dissolve and were dry with 30 mins of getting to work?

    Well done....

I'm having visions of the two of us stalking around London after each other now, in scenes reminiscent of the Jet Li movie "The One" - once I scalp him I will be invincible

I was indeed dry 30 minutes after arriving. Shame about my shoes. An epic lack of judgement meant I had no spares. Still, I needed a new pair anyway...

Ok, I've been cycling to work for a couple of months now (from about a mile west of Shepherds Bush to Soho and back)

Along Goldhawk Road? What do you ride?

Fill them with newspaper or hand towels from the bathroom, and put them by your PC fan.

    They may yet dry!

Blowing warm air across my SPDs under my desk will not go down well.....

It may bleach my hair and leave my colleagues blinded

I go along Goldhawk Road on the way back, but the twists and turns of the Shepherds Bush one way system, along with where I live, means I go along The Vale on the way to work.

I ride a Cannondale Bad Boy, black, generally (in the dry) wearing shorts, dark blue tshirt, and black backpack with flashing red flare on the back of it. It's pretty distinctive due to the rigid lefty on the front.

Done that! They're behind my mac and raid (and those things put out a fair bit of hot air). Fingers crossed.

Working in IT = best way to dry clothes. At one place I was working one of the support guys said I should stick em in server room as the air-con does a fantastic job of de-humidifying the air it literally leaches the water from clothing despite it only being about 19-20C :-) Of course you then end up with stiff clothing......

Well, you're not really fair game if you're on an MTB.

You don't end up with stiff clothing though, you end up with cold clammy clothing :?

At least my SPDs are dry :)

Heh, it's definitely not an MTB. I got that stashed in the cupboard for when it snows again (mmm, Orange P7...). It's got thin tyres and everything. No lycra going on though. And if you see a guy on a funny looking black bike with half its front fork missing and a green and silver helmet, say hi back.

Stiff clothing caused by 'air con', eh?

As a qualified computer herder I can say that soggy shoes/socks/draws inside the PC/Mac is the way to go (only thing they're good for).
The above is a post in a forum on the Intertubes, and should be taken with the appropriate amount of seriousness.

I go through Mayfair, cross Park Lane then along the north side of Hyde Park up to Lancaster Gate, then road through Bayswater and beyond...

Managed to avoid the downpours on the way to/from work apart from a few drops as I get close to work. Thought my luck had expired much earlier on the ride but that was because I was passing under some trees. The same can't be said for when I was at work, every time I got out of the van it was raining :(
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Lefty forks are an abomination against nature. I sometimes see a chap using on in a morning and I just have to stare.

Now been commuting via bike since last Tuesday & haven't had too much competition. Thornhill road down to Margery street was a nice stretch this morning. Managed to pip past quite a few people and with me on a mountain bike I hope I'm embarrassing a few.

Apparently they're lighter and stiffer. Apparently. I first saw one on a mate's mtb, and the suspension version looks even weirder than the rigid one.

The other good thing is that you don't need to take the wheel off to change the tube/tyre, and if you did want to take it off you need an allen key. So less opportunity for thieving little gits to have off with it.

In SCR news, while I overtook the standard array of slow people today, someone in Hyde Park on what looked like a carbon road machine rather caught me napping. Sad times :(

With the exception of the first four miles, a quiet ride in. Before I'd even reached the Park, 100 yards or so ahead, I spotted a chap on what looked like a full tri bike giving it some beans, with a roadie behind him. They turned up Dark Hill and I couldn't resist.

However, two became three when they swallowed up a roadie on the hill, and I then proceeded to chase them through the Park and down Priory Lane. The odds are not good when it's three on one, and I only managed to reel them in to about 40 yards ahead. Lost the tri bike chap in the knotty traffic down the LRR after the other two had turned off.

I could easily have sat down on Putney Bridge for a cup of tea and a rest.

Good work CJ! It must have been the morning for quiet starts tho as I didn't get any proper competition until I was right into town! Not even a sniff through Camberwell which usually gives me at least one plaything to stretch the legs!

It wasn't until I hit E&C that I picked up a couple of tasty looking riders, first was on a BMC who I spotted as we came round second RB and was willing to head down bus lane with me! He did and we where then joined by someone on a alu Pinarello :-)
The chap on a Pina was certainly enthusiastic but all I needed was a bit of clear road.....which I got shortly after the traffic lights and dropped them both like hot potatoes

Got caught napping somewhat over WB when a chap on a hybrid went past me  As there are roadworks now it's single lane ahead so I knew I had limited time to re-claim my scalp. A quick shoulder check and there where no cars on my ar$e so I stomped on the pedals and came past. Followed a bus over the narrow section closely following a chap on a road bike (could have been a tourer, was a dark green Condor) - don't think he was expecting my acceleration once the bus moved out the way!

Also witness a near left hook after an a$$hat in a small white van took off from the north side of WB behind all the cyclist, went racing off then took a rather sharp left after cutting up a couple of riders!
