Went to get the Focus from the garage only to find that someone has stolen the front brake!

That is a very weird theft. It actually requires someone with some tools and basic knowledge of how to fit a brake caliper. Someone who knows that is someone who, you might reasonably assume, is less likely to be a thieving cnut.

Yeah, what the hell was that for? Saw some big guys in uniform carrying even bigger guns.

I'd love to know. If it was some sort of anti-terrorist thing it provided a great opportunity to kill as many people as possible who were all trapped in nose to tail traffic! I didn't stop to ask just in case I was taken away for being in posession of lycra. Or something.

As I said they've done it before - god only knows what it seeks to achieve.

It's bizarre. The front wheel I got, thought that was just opportunistic as it wasn't secured with a cable lock, unlike the Focus (although it was secured with track nuts so they had to be carrying a spanner). They've clearly spotted the Focus and come back with tools... but why just the front brake, why not both? Why not the saddle (Specialized toupe) or the Speedplay zeros, or the Deda seatpost? I'm keeping my eyes peeled locally for a bike with a White Halo front and scuffed up Front Ultegra brake.

Stupidly I was in such a hurry this am that I left the bike down there, it's probably being stripped right now. Thank F*ck I decided to keep the Pinarello in the flat.

I'm off to order tarpaulins, the bikes will be safer locked together on the terrace. Not happy about keeping them outside, but there's nothing I can do to secure brakes, derailleurs etc.

    So very, very angry.

    Your bikes are being targetted.

The thief is probably stealing to order or using your parts to build his own.

The thief maybe someone who knows someone there or is targetting affluent places with 'secure garages' because they (i) know they aren't that secure (ii) knows that the quality of bike is likely to be better than say a 'secure garage in Peckham'. 'The best thievs go uptown.'

Being an opportunist they probably didn't want to push their luck by stripping the entire bike down or walk aroudn with a frame. A brake caliper will do to go on their single speed as will the halo wheel.

Its a horrible situation to be in and if I had the space i'd let you store them at mine until you can find a better option.

Wandsworth Town isn't the most affluent part of SW London, but this thief is clearly clued up. I'm wondering if there's anyhting I can coat the bike with that will give him a nasty shock? Once the SS is back up and running the Focus will be retired until winter anyway.

The garage requires a remote to enter and leave, and on foot you need an electronic fob to access the hallway and again for the garage. Once you are in the garage you can't get out without one or the other. So either they have time on their hands, or it's someone that lives there.

The thief is clearly a f*cking hipster!

This SCR stuff isn't good for recovery riding, either that or I need a little more self control :-)
After a nice long ride yesterday (report to follow after this post!) I was determined to try and keep it fairly easy going this morning.

That plan went straight out the window when I had a rather enthusiastic guy on a hybrid pull out a lead on me down the first nice hill we hit. I'm still a bit wary of descending and he went straight round a queue of 4 cars! I wasn't going to let this go un-answered so waited until we lost some of the cars ahead and it got a little flatter and spun up the proper gears :-) I was soon past him and cursing myself for the effort!

I then had another couple of fast-ish guys in Camberwell who I did my best not to go tearing past as I would have usually done. They weren't slow as I had to get upto a nice 25mph "cruise" to see them off but then took it fairly easy for the rest of the ride......except for The Highway which just demands to be ridden fast :-D

@IP Sorry to hear about the spat of thefts, certainly looks like a inside/targeted job tho.

I got to ride 2 bikes this morning, I got just over 4 miles then this happened

I was stuck in the middle of nowhere, luckily the missus hadn't left for work and came picked me up and drove me home. Got on the squadra and rode in. No-one left to race at the later time

Is that part of the rim that's falling off? I ask because I don't know much about more expensive gear, and I can't see how damage like that is even possible on my rims.

Hang on - your riding a fixed and you've worn out your rear rim? Forgive me if I misunderstand, but I thought fixed riders scorned brakes (use of)

it's a flip flop hub so the rear brake is there as I'm not a cretin. I use the rear on that bike as tiredness sets in and especially when it's wet/snowing. the original brake broke a while back and caused problems which is why I think it was a little weaker

Zachariah yes that's the rim that decided it's had enough

1.16 mins and 22 miles. Correct, it was under the chin in the park.

Good ride home this evening with possibly one of my most satisfying scalps to date!
It started at the lights before Edwardes in Camberwell, a chap on a blue/black Carrera came up as the lights went green and gave it some across the junction. I responded and kept up until the lights ahead went red. He didn't look like he was going to stop and carried on across the junction.

Lights by the green where very kind, changing on the approach so I carried on straight through and could just seem him up ahead. The ped crossing lights went red and he did a very poor attempt at trackstanding - he basically rode forward very slowly whilst trying to avoid running into people crossing the road! After that he pretty much disappeared as the lights by Nando's went red. I hoped that he would head up Denmark Hill and wondered how good it would be to scalp him with him having such a lead......imagine my delight as I spotted him not to far up the hill as I got to the bottom of the climb :-) There where a few other hybrid riders between us so I knuckled down and kept it all controlled as I gained on him quite comfortably. Once I got to within a couple of metres the hill was stating to flatten out and he must have sensed I was there as he dropped a few gears and upped the pace :-D

I kept the gap about the same without killing myself and he did a quick shoulder check as he swung down Sunray Avenue. That confirmed I was still sitting behind him and would have done him there but there's not much to scalping on a downhill section! Instead I waited until after the mini-roundabout on the run up to the station. At this point I came past but he didn't seem to respond.......he then made a rather poor decision by wrong-siding the massive traffic island outside the station!! He came a bit un-stuck as a car tried to come the opposite way! After that he was consistently about 5-10 metres behind me! I think he came up College Road but I think by that point he had already given up

Pretty sure I saw King Donut this morning, on Millbank - he passed me as I was pootling for my left turn for a drop-off (I'm doubling-up as a courier today). It was the vest what gave it away, but I also looked for the bling chain :) .

@MonkeyMonster - I'll be in RP tonight for a couple of clockwise laps.

Quick note to the chap on the black Trek (I think) roadie with aero bars in Camberwell this morning.....if you insist on putting tri bars on your commute bike then please try and put in some effort! I can only assume you have some sort of race this evening that you are saving yourself for.....

Also got a gravity assisted scalping of a scooter on a rather fun descent of College Road from Crystal Palace today and an simply awesome ride along The Highway - there is something hugely satisfying and thrilling about splitting lanes and filtering marginally quicker then the surrounding cars @ around 25mph. I've even started playing a new game where I pick out targets as I wait at the lights on the north side of Tower Bridge waiting to turn onto the road, make a mental note of what they are wearing and hunt them down as they have now have a headstart

I'm sure this is mentioned in the Old Testament (pages 1-100), but the language used in those days was weird, and I don't understand it.

So, milkfloats - fair game/not game?
