    well...
Came down the blackfriars off ramp...
    ....
Back home over the hammersmith bridge into the wind.

Sounds a lot like my scenic route home...will keep a tentative look out (and a low profile!).

On a related matter, if you were in the pack going away from Vauxhall lights this morning I hope you enjoyed the trackstanding masterclass I put on (I'm talking stock still here - I was so cool i had condensation forming on my top tube..)

Not my route, but I'm sure I would have enjoyed it!

I will however be heading home (via Richmond Park) along the Embankment this evening, I expect I'll hit it a little after 6, hold on to your scalps!

Its quite a nice route overall and the bit through putney and barnes before heading north again is a pleasant finish (bar hammersmith roundy). Red face mask with black camekback today.

I love reading these tails, 7.5 miles and I rarely see another bike going my way in the morning (ignoring the paper boy on his BMX going up my street anyway) coming home I may see 1 or 2, usually none, but rarely anything you'd call a challenge in either respect.

I'm freaking Cancellara on my commute at the moment.

I motorpace buses and taxes along Waterloo bridge.

I devour anything I see along Kennington road.

As for Balham highstreet, I get to the other end at an earlier time than I arrived at the start.

Awesome is my power, Dondaddyd is my name.

I hit the wall last night, my weekend triathlon has returned to haunt me, and as a result I got handed my self respect on a plate several times this morning, especially by a guy on what I think was a Van Nicholas going though the park.

I was off the bike adjusting my handle bars when he went past (I've got the S1 back and I'm adjusting everything to get it feeling right); I was selecting targets out of the corner of my eye as I worked.

Hopped back on and cruised into a headwind, suddenly realising my legs were empty but carrying on regardless. Went past him with ease, but he opviously realised my game and just tailed me until just before Priory Lane when we went off like I was standing still. Caught up with him at the lights turing onto URR, but he did his disappearing act and made it though the lights onto LRR, leaving me stranded.

Going over PB a guy on a Boardman with clip on tri bars didn't seem to want me going past, but I was having none of it.

On a side note, the cycle lane on Putney Bridge is causing me issues; as an SCRer I tend to be quicker than most over there, but I'm not going right at the lights, I'm going straight on. Consequently I'm overtaking but they I have to plough though a mass of cyclists moving from left to right approaching the lights who seem to assume that everyone is going the same way as them.

To all those crossing BF bridge this evening at 19:30 - consider THAT lesson in humility free.

To the two chaps clearly racing each other, did it hurt when I span past you both whilst seated then dropped you both like a brick?

    Rest is good :-)

Spotted that; wondered why Dave didn't take his bike rather than get stuck in traffic?

A guy came past me after i had just braked for a left turning car. Bike with TT bars, with him dressed head to toe in full team UK kit. Looked like a Knob. i so wanted to go for it with him but he went left straight away.

Beware of complacency. Got surprised by Mr 66 just after lambeth bridge rbt. Was power-pootling when someone went past at speed. 'I recognise that sir-vaylo', thought I. 'I recognise that FCN 0 bag... feck'. I spun up and tried to look easy as I drew alongside. We then power-pootled chatting about power meters. I've said it before but Mr66 does have some serious speed.

'Power-pootling'? Oh, that's what most of us call sprinting, right?

Well with his choice of commuting bikes he can hardly "take it easy" for fear of looking like a complete tool ;-)

I think a bit of perspective is called for: I was tracking a pair of cabs onto the approach to LBR, used the second one to two me onto it, passed it on its left on the roundabout, then used the ramp off the roundabout to catch and ride the bow wave of the first one. Have to admit, I was pretty focussed on the the rear bumper of the lead cab...

Power-pootling is about right. I was doing a lot of panting between words!

Oh yeah, just remembered my coach drafting last night and taking an entire line of cyclists using it :D Most fun. Missing my ride already but beer calls later and it can still scream louder.

Had a brilliant ride home yesterday. Saw a black guy on Kennington road (in the cake stop I would now be deemed racist for mentioning the persons race) on a black Allez, I don't see many black guys on road bikes, but if they're anything like me, which I would expect they are, then secretly they're competitive souls.

I power-along up to him as he starts to accelerate, "sh*t he's fast" I think to myself. I slip my mind into that place when I need to go to war, shift (I love Ultegra, you can't hear the shifting in traffic) and bring the rain as I dance on the pedals.

I've taken him and I arrive at the lights, which were red.

Green, and he's off like a spear! Back in that place my mind goes and I take him, I know I'm near the 30mph mark now and I arrive at another set of lights. He pulls up near me and says "Got some decent speed on you there, how much do you cycle".

Past Oval tube all the way to Balham we talk about bikes and cycling. He looked like he might be a good climber, had good smooth (Jensen Button like) acceleration and pedal technique to match.

    chapeau!

Back in the game as of yesterday. Sheesh but there are far more cyclists about now than there were when my enforced break kicked in 1 month ago. Fitness is shot, again. Some f@cker on a Wilier was sat right n my wheel last night, pushing me to go faster than I was really able to. Did he take a turn, did he f@ck. It's all a little hurty, but in a good way.
