Silly commuting racing

Jesus. Christ. Alive.
My legs and lungs are shot to hell.
Four rather swift laps of Regent's Park with JG, then it was homeward bound at JG speed. I gave up trying to stay with him down Millbank at 29-something. A rolling start at the VB lights and we were off again down through DSC to CB, passing everyone, including a rapid SSer on a Colnago.
My legs were screaming on the stretch to AB and I was naturally disappointed to have to stop for the red lights by Royal Hospital Rd...
A more normal speed was maintained until Queen's Ride when it was hammer down for the whole stretch up to the top of the Bridge. As I said to JG at that point, "That's me done for the night".
Pootled the rest of the way. Took the long way round via Hampton to spin the legs a bit. But no SCR for the rest of the week after tonight's nonsense - I've got the Surrey Rumble on Sunday.
@Roastie - was the Pearson guy on a carbon Trek? And did he look young?FCN 2-4.

Something weird happened on the way home, I took the slightly longer route to avoid the Whitchurch cobble/off road nightmare hill, 5 miles in I rapidly developed tunnel vision light headiness and the shakes, lucky for me I was not far from an open pub, I dashed in just in time, legs giving way and sweats started
I had a sit down, a sugary soft drink, some nuts & crisps and back on my way, v odd! :?

Dunno, It could be because I've cut out the booze ie less carbs and general kcals - no idea but very unpleasant and rapid onset, lucky because 5 miles more and I would be screwed.Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

Yep, that was awesome. Except the ride from the office to Regents Park. That sucked.
The laps around Regents Park were rapid and sure made the legs burn. Not quite sure it deserves all the hype, though...
The ride back was fantastic. We hit the racetrack at whitehall and it was game on. The wind was a bit blustery past HoP so I put my head down and span down millbank. Mr Garmin said the max speed for the ride was 35.5mph (although that may be a glitch). There was a timely change of the lights at VB and we were off again. We were behind the car traffic as we spun up so we had a line of roadies to chase and scalp, which we did by Chelsea Bridge. Everyone was at warp speed, too, due to the mahoosive tailwind
Everything was neutralized along the NKR.
I almost got killed on Putney Bridge. I was in primary on the outside lane when a car to my left pulled across sharply and without indicating nearly collecting my front wheel. I was forced to take evasive action into the path of the oncoming traffic, which was nice. The offending driver got me pointing at eyes and indicators for the rest of the bridge crossing
Again, Queens ride was a blast and then a pleasant spin along URR to finish. Great stuff0 -

Hmm i have been going through similar effects also, aching legs for days as well and i have not found an answer either, just a phase maybe more protein/carbs needed, who knows, hope it sorts itself out for you.0 -

+1. Trafalgar Square is, um, interesting...
Can't see enough of the road around the Park in the dark for my liking. Nearly came a cropper on one of the sunken man hole covers around the south-west section. Good to see the roadie who took a tow for the last lap say "thanks". Proper manners for you.FCN 2-4.

I started to "bonk" after just 20 miles on the way home during December. You use a lot of energy just keeping warm, but, if I'm on a sportive, I'll eat a banana before the first 20 miles have been clocked up, so no reason why the same shouldn't apply to the commute. Something to watch though.FCN 2-4.

After this morning's sleep deprived grind into the wind, I was not expecting to have any legs tis evening, but despite a little soreness, the tailwind made it all rather fun. Left the office just before 7 and Blackfriars to PS was rubbish as per usual, but a chance for a good spin up in the few clear stretches. After PS, I managed to pick up speed fairly well to around 27mph down to VB, then 25ish, fading to 23mph down to BB (just missed a straight through at VB). Not quite up to JG standard but nothing to be ashamed of given I only had 4 hrs sleep last night.
Was a bit spent after that, so took it easy over the bridge. Had a pleasant surprise on leaving the bridge: the RAB just south of Battersea Bridge and the turning towards QTR has just been resurfaced. They've not finished yet, but you can almost see your face in the tarmac it's that smooth! Just gorgeous to ride on. Shame it won't last, what with the obligatory roadworks sure to rip it up within weeks.
As normal, not much to report after this except a pothole that might be a half scale model of that drop off MTB Idle posted earlier. Thankfully the pothole was big enough to have an 'exit ramp', so no damage done. Can't believe I rode into it given that I've spotted it every other night for the past couple of weeks.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

Stay away from chocolate/sugary stuff like that, hot chocolate and Red Bull for a while, and eat fruit. Drink lots of water. See how you get on.FCN 2-4.

A young chap - about 21 - in my club has been snapped up by Pearson to race for them. He's a 2nd Cat. Think he won, or came 2nd, the Dynamo Hill Climb on Leith Hill last autumn, Yeah, he's really quick if it's the same guy.FCN 2-4.

Hrrmpph that headwind was a little hurty. Still managed to scalp a roadie though. In other news, it looks like the clement weather has roused many an RLJing numpty from winter hibernation. Saw some pretty ridiculous behaviour this morning.

Decided not to push my luck last night after the morning's efforts so took a slightly longer, hillier, but more scenic route home last night and was rewarded with a family of 5 foxes crossing the road in front of me going through the lanes towards Heddington and then about a mile or so further on a little badger trotting towards me full in my lights.
I love the countryside
Day off today : got a 60 mile commute planned for tomorrow and then a biggish ride on Sunday as well with the club so today I shall mostly be rubbing my legs in a Vic Reeves stylie to get the soreness out.....

Good call you have a rest now
Seems there will be a few fellow SCRers down these parts this weekend, good show what what!
I love the countryside and I have a plan for the summer if we every get one, last night whilst having a sit down in the pub (no booze) I got chatting to the landlady blah blah etc etc then we got on to the subject of the pubs along the Bourne valley, well what do you know there are 11 in a 20 mile stretch, sounds to me like the perfect SCR yokel pub crawl / BBQ at itboffins house
For those poor people who don't live out in the country, they could catch the train for Londonium to Whitchurch where it's just 1.5 miles to the first pub, from there your 2 miles to the next etc etc etc. arriving in no fit state at Chateau 'boffin for a well earn BBQ.
Edit: for those real men or women there's a 2 mile extension up the down the Chutes  it's one of the local clubs hill TT and a M*** 'ker of a leg burner, the descent down twisty single track is amazing well worth the effort as are the +1000ft views.Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

Headwind? What headwind?*
Quite a nice ride in, albeit a bit chilly.
Had my first slanging match with a driver in ages. On the DSC I was overtaking another cyclist. I'd given plenty of warning of my intentions. Said driver didn't like being 'balked' and wound his window down and started going on about how the roads are for cars and bike should be on paths. I got the chance to say 'you need to read your highway code'. Score! I left it with "you don't know what you're doing" and went on my way up the road, him left in a queue.
