Actually thinking back, I think SCR did exist, it just didn't have a name yet.
Of course it existed :). SCR is as old as the bicycle itself.

And as you get ready for the commute in the morning you shout to your OH/housemate/wife etc, 'where's me daps?' and as the bus driver cuts you up you shout a sarcastic 'Cheers drive'

And the memories come flooding back... :D

I know! You almost want to lick it it's so smooth.

Left v. late this morning as brain decided to have one of those "I don't care if it's 4 in the morning and you've got to get up in 2 hours, I'm not sleepy" nights. Thought I was just going to freeze my fingers off until I got to Stockwell, when...

A nippy roadie on a white Trek with red flashes and red and black kit out-filtered me at the roundabout, so I stepped it up a notch as we swung left back onto the straight up to Oval. Reeled him in good'n'proper and steamed past at about 27 :D . Feeling quite pleased with myself, but then realised (having blown most of my energy) that he was right on my tail and I would have to make it stick for a full scalp  . I managed to hold him off (was he drafting? I'm not sure, I kept seeing his shadow right behind me) until Lambeth North tube, where we split. This was just as well as by this time I was absolutely spent and was forced to pootle most of the rest of the way.

Chapeau! Mr Trek rider. Great fun, but nonchalance pretty much went out of the window :D .

  • Good fun this morning despite almost getting frostbite in the toes! Roll on Xmas and I get my overshoes :-)
First scalping target appeared as I waited to join the Drag Strip opposite Waitrose, saw a chap on a roadie with red footie socks on RLJ on the ped crossing phase and then had to wait for the whole traffic phase before I could go after him! Found and past him by Clapham South before finding a strong looking rider by the common. Had to hold back on the scalp due to traffic - a Zafira was tailing him and couldn't get round due to traffic in the next lane, thankfully once it cleared we all passed and I gave a kick but had no response from him :-(

I then picked up a couple more roadies at the lights on the north end of CC, one of who was on a rather nice looking bike that turned out to be a black Cannondale sporting aero bars :-D He was quick but didn't quite have the top end speed I was hoping for, I left him and the other roadie to filter into the crowded ASL by the car garage a bit further ahead before scalping them both again with a motorbike up my ar$e  Comp registered a 29.8mph max speed and a 17.1 avg so certainly a quick ride by my recent standards!

From Popbitch (apologies if already posted):

"A gatehouse at Sky News, West London, has been converted this year into showers, to help those newsroom employees going green and cycling to work. But some of these cyclists want to know, who keeps leaving the used condoms lying around the showers?"
  • Also forgot to mention, I can't ever remember a morning where I've seen so many motor vehicles ignore traffic lights! Saw a good 4 or 5 jumpers this morning!

I'd also like to say a big thanks to the chap on the SS who pulled out from a RL to join South Lambeth Road, next time you might want to be a bit more observant if you insist on ignoring the rules of the road. Whilst I saw you coming out I don't appreciate having to swerve around amoeba like yourself  Unfortunately I didn't see him again after that otherwise I might have repeated what I yelled at him as I past the first time...

Game on for tomorrow though :) Once more I believe I saw biondino, walking his bike past wardour st starbucks - not knowing his real name or if it is Biondino :) I didn't want to shout that loudly... I was the guy in the long sleeved gore getting his bike ready...

Walking my bike? I'm not itboffin, you know... Nope, definitely not me this time, as I didn't ride yesterday. I did cycle up Wardour Street just after 10am this morning, though. Wondering if cycling at all was sensible given my headcold.

    Horrid insidious rain

    Set off thinking, "waterproof, pah!"

10 minutes later and I'm soaked. I still haven't warmed up.
    "Impressive break"

    "Thanks...

    ...I can taste blood"

Weird... your doppleganger then - it was a white road bike as well not the pink/green beast... ah well.

Nasty rain in this temperature - luckily london is dry today. I already want to get back on the ol horse and pootle about.

We've only met once, haven't we - you're doing a good job recognising me when I'm riding a bike completely unlike one I own :) (my road bike is a black Focus)

I've worked out that I have 5 more days commuting by PT then I'll be back on the bike for Jan. May avoid Embankment for a few weeks though as my fitness is shot to pieces and I'm shedding what little leg muscle I had...

IP i am in the same boat, think we had out injuries at the same timeish, was operated on on 19th Oct, mind you we have missed a WET couple of months....

Have avoided this forum as have been so jealous of all cyclists wizzing past my bus every morning, roll on the 5th Jan, just purchased a load of new gear, but I fear I will also be giving embankment a miss for a couple of weeks, lack of fitness and thigh muscle wastage and all that.... and have to say will be a tad apprehensive every time I see a black cab...

Know the feeling. I've tried not to read this when I've been poorly. Even today, in the car 'cos of my stoopid hand, I'm feeling major pangs.

I know someone's going to shout at me for not putting this in the Road section, but here's a great interview with David Millar.

Ronhills are terrible at keeping your legs warm and for some reason (man-flu) I struggled for breath all they way in this morning, deep breath and nothing no air coming in or very little :?

not good having to breathe hard through your nose

What was the point of cleaning my bike this morning...!

Thinking about popping my kit in the microwave for 30 seconds before getting changed this evening for a pre-heat.

How was I to know the microwave wasn't the ideal place to dry my laptop after I'd spilled coke on it?
  • :D

Its the cups that have a thin "gold" metal design on them that look ace - its sparks all the way down them.

Soap in a microwave is interesting, not something I've tried personally but have seen on Youtube :-)

The cold is back. This morning was a genuine struggle - HR hit 185 a number of times. I think my snood hid most of the pained expression on my face.

Seemed to attract a variety of drafting fairies, including one complete clown (purple anorak, long baggy short, riding a Giant) who RLJ'd, then expected a tow from me, RLJ'd again, then wanted another tow and then passed me as I was fast approaching another cyclist.

There was some good SCR action along the NKR, but backed off when the excitable filtering/other side of the road stuff started to go on.

Not looking forward to the ride home...
