The euston road is very very uncool :(

The whole of that area is one to be avoided IMO.

Good action tonight. Despatched a couple of roadies through DSC, got through the green at CB (I really wanted it to be red; I was gasping), and then passed a few on the stretch to AB.

Then saw a rapid SSer cross the junction on the NKR. Seen him before, and he's drafted me before. My lights quickly went green, so set off in pursuit. Traffic slowed us both and, after stopping at lights, I passed him as we passed the green. I knew he'd go for my back wheel, and he did. Got split at a zebra crossing - I jumped it when a ped was crossing - was a bit naughty of me. Van pulls out me when we're doing about 25-26, and completely blocks my view of the crossing. SSer right behind me. If I brake hard, he could go into me. Great. That's why I hate drafting fairies. I slow, but can't brake hard enough without fear of SSer going into the back of me and so going across the crossing. I give a very sheepish "sorry" to the ped who's crossing.

I almost stacked it into a bus on Marylebone road tonight, it pulled out in front of me at the lights, I jumped on its "wheel" so to speak, then after a couple of hundred yards it just stopped with me nearly painted all across the back

Also today whilst pizza shopping I saw a college type bloke riding a 1950s style heavy bike with a completely flat rear tyre  not a care in the world as he rolled past.

I think some lights have special sensors that can tell when your about to explode and stay green! There have been a few times where I've cursed the lights at the top of Fountain Drive in Crystal Palace for going green after giving it some beans up the hill towards them :-)

Back on the Kona this morning. That felt a tad heavier. Not much going on this morning.

Really could not be arsed this morning, just pootled along then sat on the train staring at my bucket of coffee

+1. My HRM said that I was in the "zone" - whichever zone that is - for 35 of the 58 mins I was riding.

+ another (minus the cup of coffee, mine was a double espresso  )

I just couldn't motivate myself to even make any attempt to go quicker than was absolutely needed to stay warm.

Pies and mulled wine my friend, PIES and mulled wine :D

ps - which reminds to add the sainsbury straight out of a bottle mulled wine is actually really rather good.

Working from home today though nipping back in later for a 3 o'clock meeting... So I will get to the racetrack albeit later than normal. Tomorrow too and then its alcohol o'clock for the rest of the week.

Mulled wine. Yak! :x According to C+, it takes 38 mins, riding at 12 mph, to burn off *a* mince pie and cream. This doesn't bode well for Christmas...

Working from home or just thought that things might be a bit too fast for you this morning?

If you're willing to hang around after your meeting, I'll be passing Blackfriars around 6pm. I'm on the Kona. It's got black seatstays, which is really the only bit you're ever likely to see.

I've worked out that I have 5 more days commuting by PT then I'll be back on the bike for Jan. May avoid Embankment for a few weeks though as my fitness is shot to pieces and I'm shedding what little leg muscle I had...

And exactly how often do you cycle at 12 mph, CJ?

  • Nearly decked some tosser in a Tigra on Friday night. He want past me, overtaking at a traffic island - annoying enough, but I'm pretty calm and let it slide. I overtook him whilst he was waiting at a red light, and this appeared to incense him. He came up behind me revving his engine and trying to do a VERY slow, and VERY close overtake - to which I unclipped one leg and made it very clear he was going to get a cleat in his wing if he continued.

Suddenly he gave me rather more room. Caught him again at the next red light, knocked on the window and requested politely that he give me more room next time

To be fair, when he rolled down his window, he had a moustache, comb-over and a belly so large it was dented by the steering-wheel. Must be hard seeing the likes of me. 8)

  • I snapped a chain this morning on NKR :x Unfortunately a pin was jammed so I had to freewheel the next 5 miles until the bike shops opened. Still overtook a couple of hybrids along Embankment. I had two people stop, but both wanted me to help them with pnuctures!

  • Bits falling off this morning - the bike - not me ............

Twice my blasted speedometer came off : the second time it slipped off half way down Bowden Hill and I had to walk back up to find the bloomin thing - grrrrrr

Out to buy some glue this lunchtime.

The new Ultegra is fab. The whole bike weighs only 16lbs now. Trouble is I've put on 7lbs so whatever I've saved on the bike I've more than compensated for with chocolate biscuits!!

Oo, bad luck. Chain snapping can get nasty.
The PF must have been busy this morning coz I offered assistance to another couple of her victims along chelsea embankment/DSC.

Everything feels like a super-slo-mo replay at the moment: I've got a cold and it's gone to my chest so there was no biking at all over the weekend and it was "recovery" speed this morning. Soooo frustrating :(

It was ... difficult this morning for me too. Bloody cold, stiff legs and a slight headwind (at least I hope so) that was very so more than slightly annoying.

So bio - do you indeed own a half green half pink fixie and did you have a red face mask near you yesterday morning?

I do, but I'm afraid I didn't notice. Sounds like me though! Were you the chap I was describing who Chris thinks deserves fairy wings?

Having changed my flat this morning I discovered that my usual vast supply of inner tubes was empty, being in the couldn't be arsed mood I was in I did the commute sans spare or tool kit :?

Happy in the knowledge that should the PF call I would have to walk home or to the station whichever was nearer, now that's brave or perhaps stupid.

Just off to the LBS for a gross of tubes

Went track riding on Sunday night until 9pm - cold and tired this morning, still left everything standing.......
