Was there a westerly tailwind this morning or am I just fecking great?
Fixed gear for wet weather / hairy roadie for posing in the sun.

Was a M/bike v Van incident last night in Brizzle on the Newfoundland Circus. Catching the aftermath it looks like they were going through some TLs and they changed from green to amber and the van stopped but the bike didn't. Front mudguard and damage to the side of the bike from falling over. Swapping insurance details as I passed.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

One hell of a tailwind. I freewheeled all the way from Cheyne Walk.

+1. While there is no doubting your greatness Mr T, my new PB would suggest a tailwind of gustatious proportions.

Might also have something to do with the South African (I think) chap I picked up on his way in from Woking. Chapeau to you sir. Kept me honest when all I wanted to do was throw up in the gutter. Cutting out the get-off-and-walk part at the start of my commute you helped me cover 14.7 miles in 40 mins flat at 22mph av.

Is it me or do you get a different breed of commuter dependant on the time? I was all but ready to hang up my helmet on Tuesday evening after witnessing some seriously annoying / dangerous cycling. But move it forward an hour and its all rosy again.

I've given trying to catch the optimum SCR time. Might be because it's August - the fun and games with school runs begin again in a week or two. T'riffic.[/quote]

Red Specialized. I think. Tbh it was all I could do to keep my eyes pointing in the same direction. Definitely red though.

He even thanked me for the tow, although he more than repaid the favour. From Priory Lane all the way until I misjudged the lights by Temple tube.

The last ride home on my old faithful was rather uneventful. Popped into Condor for a few last minute forgotten bits but had little excitement apart from a few heart in throat moments from unexpected death pads (manhole covers) on the unfamiliar route, and another puncture.

Only real action was when I had to cane a "lycra'd up roadie" riding something Italian up High Holburn; head cold is clearing up :).

If i leave after 8am central london is carnage by the time i get in.

for me early is definitely better in the morning and evening, less numpties.

I try to leave after 9:00, the traffic and the nutter cyclists have both eased up by then. Trouble is there's not many people to SCR around at 9:30 + in the morning in Hammersmith.

Leave earlier. You need to raise your game. You're in a comfort zone. You're effectively playing Division 3 football. Or in the Scottish Premiership. :P

So CJ when would you say the premiership of SCR is? In fact if we we're going to have divisions matched up to time slots what would they be?

And does that make a tube strike like the first round of the FA cup?

Good question. I have no idea. :)

I'm a lazy sod and don't leave the house till 8am, but occasionally enthusiasm for work gets the better of me and so leave earlier. From my own experience, there's a greater probability of things being lively on Embankment from 7.30 till 9am. Before 7.30am is way too early for me, so you're probably riding with right psychos who will ride, tongues out, till they drop.

There's always a chance of a big Cup upset, particularly if you run into one those hybrid chappies looking to make the next day's headlines. Anyone riding an FCR is to be treated with great caution and your rear wheel should not be offered at any stage; you'll have one hell of a job shaking them.

trouble is that would involve me getting my a*se out of bed earlier.

I am happy playing 3rd division SCR, thing is there's not that many people go my route at any time of the day (wimbledon to white city).

Btw, did you go to HH last night?

New PB on the commute today. 26.45 its a 7.5 miler, so just under 17mph average.
Not bad a bad improvement from my 33 mins earlier this year.

Not action on the ride in this morning but I did find a nice excuse to get out on the bike for work today - I needed to visit a site a few miles up the road but the pool van had already been taken, oh well :-) Quick change of clothes and I'm off.....

Eventually managed to resolve the stupid bloody issue and set off back towards the office. Took a different route to normal which basically cut out about 3/4 mile of nice straight flat road for some nice climbing and descending that I think was slightly longer distance wise :-D

A bit further along I'm approaching some roadwork barriers and have a van up my bum, I give it a kick and start pulling out a lead.........I then undertake the car next in line and keep the power on for the next 50-60 metres :-) By this point I'm tucked on the drops and have a whole bus lane to myself. I look back and spot the same van coming up from behind. I look over as he passes and get a big smile in return :-D

'Fraid not. I didn't see myself getting out of work in time, so took the road bike. Good job, because I didn't get out of work in time. Ideally, the mtb needs an overhaul before it's raced. Front mech issues, yet again. Am going to give it some TLC this weekend in time for next Wednesday. I have my eyes on something at the moment...

Hey, Celtic might not have beaten Arenal, but the Gunners had 2 flukey goals in the first game and a horrendously cheated penalty last night. OK, the Arsenal were the better team but we held our own.... Overall Scottish teams have a very good record against English teams.

Your namesake had a 50/50 record.

Won one, lost one - but then came up short when the referee had him hung drawn and quartered and had his limbs distributed liberally across the country.

At first blush, I'm not sure a 5-1 defeat over two legs suggests Celtic held their own. :P

Howewer, Arsenal aren't really an English team, and I don't like them, and I really hoped you would beat them, so I'm prepared to accept that this tie didn't count.

Not so when I had time to fettle all of them worked now my lack of maintenance has reduced me to just the TT or MTB neither of which I fancy doing the commute on.

Lucky for me I now have 5 days off :D

True enough. In the first leg, the only Englishman on the field was playing for Celtic.....

    Held your own?
out played for 135 minutes out of 180 (I'm gonna give it evens for the first half last night).

12 shots on target for the gunners, 2 for Celtic.
outplayed, outgunned, outclassed. You play in a different league and it looked it.

Eduardo going down like that was disappointing, that's a fair cop. The vilification in the press has been ridiculous, worse than the bloke that shattered his leg ffs.

Kenny Dalglish is an appallingly bad pundit. Did you hear his Johnny foreigner to blame for all the diving in British football comments last night?
The rule makers are to blame, for some reason they are impotent to do anything about it, it would be so easy to rid the game of this.
1 or 2 game ban for anyone adjudged to have dived. It stops overnight. And you can't apply the penalty retrospectively, change the rule, fix forwards.
Not climber, not sprinter, not rouleur
