  • Just thought I would announce myself as tonight's target as it's the last chance to scalp me for a month tonight as I am taking some time off before starting a new job, so it will be RP and the Surrey Hills for me in Sept :D .

Last day of commuting for a while :(

New job, waiting list for locker / bike rack, new boss not manic cyclist. Pah.

Been cheating by not carrying a bag, though that really means no excuse at all when you get passed by a Brompton. Not that has happened lately.

I'm hoping my run of green lights this morning will remain for this evening. I only got stopped by 2 RL on my 7 mile cycle in :D

Horrible ride home tonight for me, was knackered after work and didn't feel like I had alot in the legs....and I didn't.

That said I managed to kick up a fair pace chasing down a chap on the NKR and then almost got smashed to pieces by a BMW turning across the two of us. (tried to follow another car turning right). I slammed on the breaks and came to a very abrupt halt about a foot from his door. The other cyclist just managed to stop in time too. What annoyed me most was the dumb look on his face - he didn't even acknowledge that he'd almost smashed into us both.

That kinda knocked the wind out of me and the rest of the journey home was a serious struggle into a nasty headwind.

Cycled home with a chap from the office who rides a singlespeed, and while he is certainly nippy feels like a bit of a nasty thing to do to race people and leave him. We did however pick up a hanger-on on Fulham Palace Road who turned off just as it was getting to be his turn at the front. :x

Did see a chap in Putney cycles with a beautiful Klein roadie (purpley-pink with a smidge of carbon showing on the chainstays), never seen him before - anyone on here?

Hmm, I remember passing a guy on a Klein road bike, similar colour too, somewhere on Embankment. Around 6.30.

Had a drafting fairy on the stretch between Albert and Chelsea Bridges. Otherwise, a quiet night all round.

And, Roastie, no chance. Cold or no cold.

First ride in after the weekends exploits so was chomping at the bit after walking it yesterday! My usual route was fine until I found traffic backed up on my favourite section for a spot of cornering practice :-( Rudy temp traffic lights snarled it up proper. Once I got round onto the dual carriageway I got a bit of an impromptu sprint training as I hit the bus lane and spotted the lights 100 yards or so ahead change to green with no buses in my way :-) I round up the revs in an effort to get through on the green and went flying through with a rather loud "WATCH OUT!!" to the peds who where RMJing ;-) Not to sure if it's the "proper" thing to do but frankly I wasn't going to scratch off 25mph of momentum because they can't use their eyes

Didn't do commute today, instead to a ride from Brizzle to Weston Super Mare, not far for some at 25 miles but far enough for my old legs. Fecking rain spoilt the ride somewhat. Got rained on 3 times and just as I dried out from the last downpour it started again :(

Does the scalp count if you get a flat shortly after bludgeoning your prey? Genuine stupid pinch puncture. Honest.

Depends if you made it stick and how shortly after it was. What does your conscience tell you?

I'd pulled a nice gap over London Bridge and no way he was coming by again if I had anything to do with it, cold or no cold. ;)

'Twas annoying tho' to have to jog to the station shouldering the bike 'cross style to make my train. :?

    Yep, that counts, Roastie.

    Random news from me:

    - I almost had a nasty off forgetting I was on a fixie last night and trying to freewheel over a massive speedbump. I think only the fact my arms were locked at the time stopped my flying over the bars.

    - I got abuse shouted at me on Putney Bridge from a van. 300 yards later and I found myself riding alongside two fat blokes who were doing everything they could not to look at me. So I rode in front of them, very slowly, and gave them The Look. Tossers.

    - I discovered my fixie only has 165mm cranks! I'd wondered since the first day why I didn't seem to be able to put the power down properly. I'll post on the fixed gear thread about what I should do.

    - I scalped a Segway!

Only that if they are roadies and they shave their legs for lady aesthetic reasons, they aren't counted as shaved roadies.

If they were blokes and the would have shaved their legs (for whatever reason), they are counted as shaved roadies...team kit on girls usually goes hand in hand with shaved legs ;)

I think hairy legged female roadies should be treated the same as shaved legged male roadies. I fear them both.

I am quite thankful that I have never seen a hairy legged female roadie!

Or just mistook them for a boy (probably too busy checking out the wheels).

scalp count this morning 2, both over Putney Bridge.

To top off an already quite good day, my unfeasibly tight lycra shorts for my duathlon have arrived. Not sure I've got the B*lls (in both senses) to wear them out of an event. Plus my FCN will automatically go to 4 and I'll have to MTFU even more.

Biondino, never actually seen a segway in the wild, let alone scalped one, what FCN?

Being the complete super hero that I decided to ride through the storms home only to my surprise they stopped before I got off the train, oh well plenty of puddles to get my feet wet in.

any who six miles in pop psssst! my rear tyre lets go in a big way lucky for me it's pitch black and 15 miles from home with no shops or pubs nearby

Got love the countryside still it is a beautiful night, loads of stars and animals scratching about, that said owl & badgers know naff all about fixing bikes, anyway a closer inspection of the rear tyres revealed several massive bald patches which I have no doubt have been caused by Hants councils recent road "improvements" around the Whitchurch area

Road surfaces should be smooth grrrr

Had a guy stop next to me at the lights the other day .. saying he couldn't keep up with me and not sure if its my bike or the pedals

Went past a few people on hybrids/MTBs a few days ago , but then a roadie overtook me and I didn't catch him up till he took a different turn :(

Also had a car reversing on chiswick roundabout because he took the wrong exit and nearly ran into me ... why would you reverse on a roundabout??? Another car crashed into him a few seconds after, not suprising!
  • BBBrrrrr what a nasty but still fun ride home last night, didn't see a sole, the almost gale force head and cross wind nearly caught me out, but other than my pained expression nothing much else to report.
This morning the roads were empty, not even much traffic, which was nice, managed to open up on the big ring on this flyover near me, had to crush the brakes as a truck driver thought he was obviously more important, and to be fair he was a bit bigger than me so i relented rather than ending up under his front wheel.
Whether not to shabby this morning nice cooling breeze, looking forward to this evening.

Crosswind going over Waterloo bridge was horrendous. I was caught twice by it almost an off.

Rain was ok but when I turned and it became a headwind it was hard work.

Nice ride in this morning - at some guy take my wheel for a couple of miles this morning, felt I could have dropped him but wanted to leave some in the tank for the race track that is also known as the kings road. He eventually pulled up along side me at some lights and thanked me for the wheel saying "he thought he'd take the express train in to work today" - made my morning :D

Then once over Putney bridge there was nothing really doing this morning - a few roadies but no-one really going very fast.

Now, who rides the green Bianchi with carbon seat stays and turns off down Gypsy Lane, wears a mask? Come on, own up.

rode with a litespeed to the wharf, another Mbike crash today!

saw wreck of a Mbike on the pavement just before limehouse tunnel with ambulance and police on sight...

what is it with these Mbikes, their quick acceleration is dangerous at times, and there have been at least 3 big Mbike crashes on my way to work in past month...!
