    Good, another one near manchester.

I take it you are on the flat part?

Yeah. Manchester's surrounded by hills which taunt me in the distance  I never get time to ride them, hence the switch to single speed. I may get a second bike if I miss the gears and think I can justify it to my wiser half!

My commute is just over seven miles and takes me around the outskirts of Manchester. I could go through the city which is a shorter route, but soooo many traffic lights :x and not as good a workout. There are a couple of flat bits, but mostly long and not excessively steep slopes. I think I should be fit enough to get away with it in one gear...hopefully

I'd love to live in the Peak District like you. All those lovely hills. I'd have to leave a lot of commuting time though!
Give me the time to do one thing well!

    It is quite amusing:

I was looking at where I just pootle to the shops, and almost any distance more than about half a mile involves a height difference of about 50m.

Great cycle home tonight... a bit windy but felt as though I had a good bit in my legs to give. Scalped a guy dripping from head to tow in Rapha - I like rapha but if you gonna wear it in that quantity you'd better be shifting.

Does anyone else have issues pootling? I left the office this evening and thought I'll have a nice relaxing pootle home and enjoy the evening. - As soon as I got to hyde park and saw other bikes I was like a greyhound after a rabbit.

That said my ride home was more fun for not being a pootle.

Oh, and Jimmy - I may have asked before - but what part of the Peaks? (I'm right at the Southern tip - I have to cycle 15ish miles north to get to Ashbourne)

    Normally yes, but tonight...

Last couple of days I've had a bit of stiffness between the shoulder blades. Today, I could feel the recurrence of something I get from time to time: a pulled muscle between my left shoulder blade and my spine. I put the bike bag on and thought "owww, that's a bit sore". Started riding, and found out pretty quick that any sort of breathing deeper than that required to sit still in a chair hurt. A lot. Ditto pushing the right pedal hard (puts weight on the left hand).

    Pootling it was.

    Pootling sucks hoop.

    FACT.

I've never really gotten why cyclists other than messengers use messenger bags.
Isn't it fairly obvious that you're sacrificing stability and comfort for ease of access to the contents?

    Hey,

I wear high vis and ride a hybrid until I can afford better.

So fa this year, I have ridden in a temperature range of 40° (from -9°C to +31°C).

I have also ridden in rain and snow.

Not all of us run away at the first sign of inclement weather. The inclimetn weather is why I wear high-vis clothing in the first place.

    :D Here! Here!

I don't ride in snow and my temp range isn't even close to yours, but I'm out there every day.

round here so the greeish land you can see from the Roebuck once winter closes in the road bikes tend to disapear for the most part. leaving the all weather lot on mostly hybrids/mtbs and such.

    We miss Litts.

I must read you blog to find out what the feck you are doing in Africa.

Quick blat in this morning - no traffic and very few cyclist left in my mighty wake.....battered when I got to work though. Nice headwinds for the homeward journey this week....Oh well :-(
  • Chapeau to the shaven SSer on the baby blue Condor who passed me on the drag from Balham Waitrose lights. You were rapid and I had to be on my game to stay with you (obviously at 5 o'clock and maintaining a couple of bike lengths).

Certainly opened up the taps this morning.....

There was a chap on a Quintana Roo Lucero this morning, with Spinergy wheels. Don't see those very often! He was on the bars through DSC and could certainly shift. Claimed my scalp, but one of thoe bikes I've always liked, so it was good to let it pass ( ) and have a good nose.

Also, a rapid woman on a red Trek. Definitely came across as someone who races. Seen her before and I'm not ashamed to say that she's in no way easy to shake.

Yes the spelling was incorrect, thank you for the correct spelling. Versailles finally the spelling is correct.
