Bolt cutters are coming soon at Aldi or Lidl (I always get them mixed up) for £5. Maybe a cheapish way to get into your shed_________________________________________________

Soo...
I got passed in traffic by a guy on a racing bike. I think a focus or a felt.
I used my demented skillz at passing stationary cars to get in front again
He then passed me at the next roundabout
We go onto the big hill out of town, I can stay on his wheel. As we get near the top I sense he is weakening but I don't pass. I am on single speed with heavy tyres and we are about to hit a downhill. Also he has much lower drops than me and there is a headwind
We drop down the hill onto the A road out of town. He gets about 50 metres quite quick
But it isn't over yet. On the first hill I cut it back to 10 metres. Then there is a flat bit followed by a hill and he pulls away again. Agggh. Then there is another hill but only the bit at the top really slows him up. I get to 10 metres again. Then I have a stroke of luck and he is delayed at the roundabout and I am not.
I close the last few metres on the next bit of climb.
Next I imagine he must be turning off because I have never seen any riders go the same way home as me. Most of them live in the town we are now passing on the right (Wellington) So I ease off as we hit a bit of downhill. He goes ahead. I don't see him again until the foot of a really long climb ( where I could have comprensively dropped him ) but he is already 100 metres up
I am on my Orbea today with no saddlebag. I pumped up the tyres this morning. Of course I won't see him or any other bikes coming back tonight.0 -
Yesterday I got another roadie on my ss mtb.
I like this game. However I did get scalped by a guy on a thorn touring bike, that really hurt, but i just couldn't spin any faster.0 -
Another roadie scalp etched into my BSO's handlebars this morning, well sort of...
I was coming up to Musselburgh, almost six miles into my commute, and I spied ahead of me a full Lycra roadie in the drops. I was going along at about 17 mph at the time, and closing quite quickly... something's obviously not right, perhaps he's having mechanical problems I thought. Got a bit closer, his bike sounds fine and I overtake.
It's only when I got past I noticed he must have been nearly seventy and bless him I suspect he caught the TdF coverage last night and decided to dig his old road gear out of the shed where it had lain untouched for the past 20 years. He was in a whole heap of trouble.
Do I claim that as a scalp? The ego says no.
On the plus side, I've just fitted my clippy pedals, and now have a mighty FCN of 10. 8)0 -

Get to extend my commute tomorrow :-) Due to a swift change of plans I now need to work somewhere else tomorrow but will miss most of the usual commute traffic as I'll be heading out mid-morning........on the plus side tho the total for tomorrow should nudge just over 30 miles :-) Much nicer then the just south of 5 I've been doing for the last month or so!
Quick question for the panel - Is it weird to notice that another guy has shaved legs when your off the bike? I only ask as I was in a lift yesterday yesterday on the way to visit a user in a shared use building. I'd seen a few MTB types in the lifts before and clocked a Cannondale fleece on the gent who entered the lift, as I did a quick check for any other cycle related items I noticed that he had pretty much "shaved like a laydee" legs with some fine wispy hairs, as did his mate!
When I was back there today I had a quick check on the companies in the place - one was IPC media so I guess they are the lucky guys who get to rag various nice bikes then write a nice review about it........bar stewards!0 -

Um, I haven't taken it to a shop yet  I was waiting for Sigma to get back to me. So I rang them again and they said "oh , just bring it by any time". I'd thought they had weeks-long waiting lists!0 -

Depends. Did you notice his shaved calves moving up to his muscular lean and taut thighs sitting beneath his lycra wrapped...

He was wearing baggies with flip flops.........I guess it look odd because you don't normally expect to see smooth legs sticking out below a set of gents baggy shorts ;-)0 -

Slow going until VB lights tonight. Overtook a roadie on Millbank before he hammered it past to retrieve his scalp and then RLJed (so that doesn't count, right? :P ).
Picked up a dossard on a Willier out on a training ride bound for the Park. He eventually latched on to the wheel, but went past when asked, so fair dos.
Then dropped a roadie on Broomfield Hill like a hot potato. Haven't done that for a while.FCN 2-4.

Got done by a roadie in campag shorts. Twas just after chelsea bridge and he blew by at a couple of mph faster. I had nothing to counter with and he had 50metres over the next few junctions. Mercifully RL at the Kings road junction and i recovered a bit. Kept a 5m gap all along NKR. Sprinted past on the bridge as I crossed to the RH lane, he was going up through putney. He looked across nearing the light and I gave him a nod. Humbling experience. Lacking some speed and base, need to get some miles in0

Now it's not often you see this on a commute.
I was rubbernecking and nearly fell off doing so. Lucky I left work early so there was no traffic about
I should know better.
Trouble is, it's closed off the road I use to get to work; the alternative is a busy three-lane dual carriageway from which I need to turn right from. The next few days will be fun.0 -

Name the time and place  We're racing for pinks right?
Clippy pedals are really quite a revelation, the acceleration is astonishing. Last night I got home (just over 12 miles) is 42 minutes. With a headwind. Scalped another brace of roadies on the way along with a bagful of hybrids. Some nights it just feels great!0 -
Just a great ride in today 8) Cool and sunny, little wind and almost no traffic
One fun incident almost as I get to work. I catch up to a guy riding what looked like a real old school racer; so I slowed as I came past and looked down.
What a stunning bike! REAL old school (and I wish I could remember the damn' name!) suicide shifters, old style drops, with red and white bar tape alternating (just like my old bike ) VERY VERY clean example - just a joy to look at.
The guy riding was in full work kit, no cycle clothing at all and just bimbling along I commented on and complimented the bike, he seemed very pleased to hear this and I accelerated away up to cruising speed and smiled at the thought of the bike.
1/2 mile up the road who comes absolutely belting past with a cheery "You can see it again!!" but the old school guy He'd clearly put everything into the effort of catching up and pulled straight off into his work place,,, but it was great to see someone clearly pleased at being complimented on their bike.

Had to work hard this morning.
Firstly, a roadie on a Canyon (very nice, sir) half in kit coming from the Park. Filtered to the front at lights and scooted off. Had to dig deep just to keep up. Had that feeling within that he wasn't trying particularly hard either. Oh my, I thought.
Then got to Embankment and came up behind a hairless Dynamo. He wasn't going full whack by any stretch, but I managed to pass him. I would have come off second best if he'd tried though.
Then, through Blackfriars Tunnel, I was doing about 26-27mph with no one behind me (I was last one through the lights) then, next thing, there's a roadie closing fast. Let him by, I thought; i'll look daft if I accelerate now. But he sat behind me. I waved him by, still nothing. Don't know why. Maybe he was spent, maybe he thought he was too close to the lights (he had plenty of space at that speed to leave me trailing!). Just about kept my scalp there. I think.FCN 2-4.

Was was up against the ultimate opponent today, my own PB.
I woke up 10 mins late (due to setting my alarm to go off late...). Faffed around with laundry when I really should have been getting dressed to get out of the door and so as I threw my leg over the top tube the clock on my trusty Cateye just clicked over to 05:55 (which, because I haven't been bothered to reset it, is actually 06:56, but nevermind).
Now, the problem is that I need catch the 07:17 train. My PB to the station is somewhere around 19:30, so making the train was possible. I love a challenge. Game on!
Now, usually I take about 21 minutes, 20 minutes on a very good day, so I would need to put in something pretty special to equal my PB to get to Fenchurch with enough time to run up the stairs and make it to the train.
On my route there are a few critical sections where I've worked out I can make up a lot of time by beating the light changes; this being a case of keeping the speed on the right side of 40km/h; that PB was done by catching a green wave. So onto Nine Elms I cranked it up and almost got a clear run, only getting stopped at the little "bus/goods vehicle/cycles only" light just before Vauxhall Cross. This broke the rhythm and meant I also got stopped at the light just before going under the railway.
The stretch through Kennington to E&C is another where speed means catching the green wave, and despite having to pause at the roadworks, I managed to crank it up enough to get through to E&C and onto Borough High St.
One brief RL stop at the start of Borough was a welcome breather, but my luck ran out just before London Bridge where I got halted at a ped crossing (that 4 cyclists RLJed, ... nevermind). From there I has to wait while a bendy wriggled its way past the roadworks before I could pass it, and then had a hot run over London Bridge.
But not hot enough. I watched the Monument lights changing 100m before I was there and with that probably my chances of making it. I still refused to look at the HR display or time, and as soon as it was green I caned it on the last run to the station.
As I rolled in, the clock on the Cateye read 06:15. Once I'd got off the bike into the station 06:16. The train was rolling away.
The time? 20:19.
Oh well, I did enjoy the double espresso while I waited for the next train.David

Completed one commute this morning and then set off on the first leg of a second! Almost got taken out on the mini roundabout near my house by some stupid bint who wasn't paying attention - seems holding ones arm out on the approach and turning isn't enough to make clear where you are heading  Thankfully she managed to stop in time and I avoided hitting the front of her 09 car (damn shame.........) and got my foot un-clipped so I didn't just flop over on road. Due to my turning circle I had no other safe option then to try and turn tighter which actually put me right in front of her!
Second commute was much more fun, not least cos it was about 5 times longer! No scalps but I did have some cheeky bugger nip up the inside of a queue of cars as I joined from the right and negotiated a traffic island. He then turned right at the next cross-road that I was going straight over :-( Not technically a scalp as it was done in filtering but I still felt a bit hurt.
@Roastie - Top work, sometimes I'm sure the powers that be hate cyclists or at least those that control the traffic lights do ;-)0 -

Still quite like the BO55 KGB I spotted on the way home from the Morpeth last Friday, on an X5 no less - can't remember if it had the usual gangster window option ;-)0 -
I saw YUM 911 on an old (23 ish years) Super Carrera 911 the other night, made me laugh.
