Overtaken at the start of my "uphill sprint" section by someone on an upright e-bike. Man i must of looked like a like a plonker losing to them.

Lovely ride this morning and must have been a tailwind (lovely except the wet roads and realising I hadn't brought a towel with me once I got to the shower).

This morning? I got grief from a woman asking me not to ride so fast through puddles. When I asked why given she was no where near getting splashed, she explained another cyclist did. I did not have a go at her for every time a pedestrian stepped out on me.

Was this in Putney? I once had a woman there stand in front of me, in the middle of a zebra crossing, to punish me for the other cyclist who hadn't stopped.

Overtaken in the park last night

By someone on an electric scooter

I was doing 22mph. He flew past, doing 30 at least :#

I wondered if it would slow on the hills so buried myself to stay in touch until Broomfield.

Nope, the only thing that slowed him up was having to overtake the cars on the left-hander.

  • I forgot to say my 1x10 plan got utterly scuppered by my gear cable snapping on the way in, 11x46 only, let's see if I can fix this over lunch.
If I know you, and I like you, you can borrow my bike box for £30 a week. PM for details.

That's about what the gear on your old fixie was isn't it? Hence your glass knees... :#

  • Allegedly no proper rain here in Hampshire until ~1600, but unlike Wunderground, Met Office thinks there's a 30% chance of some drizzle around 1200. However, despite the relative barmy temps of 11C to 13C between Southampton and Rake on the Wunderground stations, the humidity levels are typically 95%+. Not crazy dull skies, but pretty much full cloud cover, surprisingly damp looking road outside.

Almost tempted to go for an outdoor ride, but feeling really drowsy this morning, had a manflu19 relapse at weekend after feeling pretty fatigued for ~8 days and had to ditch the turbo training.

50x16, I might have to get the fixie going again for a bit of strength training.

I've recently been overtaken by someone going up a 80m 4-10% climb(https://veloviewer.com/segments/4477220) on an e-scooter and they didn't slow down once.

I'm really not sure i'd like to try it going down the same section!

What kind of speeds are they capable of achieving?

I assume you can unlimit them as you can with ebikes. Any idea what the ceiling is?

Shocking driver today that had to slam on her brakes once she realised she couldnt push past me at a pinch point. She then accelerated past swearing and gesticulating only to stop 100 yards later in the traffic.

A gentle tap on her window and enquiry as to wether she had mental capacity issues or was deliberately driving at me didnt seem to go down well LOLOL.

Niggly/gusty headwind last night. Whoosh again this morning. :)
  • Last night was a farce, where did that rain come from. This morning was tedious given I saw that dork disk sworks guy but wasn't aggressive enough in heavy traffic. Else, i'll be glad when all these virus dodgers on bikes and cars fvck off back on the tube.

Spring kit for the first time in ages and didn't get wet which is a win. Had a wheel-sucker all on a canyon hybrid thing who insisted on half wheeling on the inside for most of the way until i dropped him along embankment. Looked like he should have known better.

Approaching the Blackfriars cycle-crossing I realised I wasn't going to get there in time before the lights changed, so I crossed the main road to join the vehicular traffic queuing at the lights, and filtered to the front. I was in front of a builder's van. After a short while, the lights went green, it took me a couple of seconds to clip in (new pedals), by which time he was already leaning on the horn.
So I did what I customarily do in these circumstances now, I moved across to primary and stayed at just over walking pace for the 30-40 metres to the turn-off. Needless to say he was on the horn the whole time. As he passed, he issued the usual torrent of abuse to which I calmly said "what did you expect?". Quite satisfying.

so based on what i've seen in my industry the infection numbers are already way way higher, because not all companies are reporting their confirmed cases, just saying ...

whilst in London yesterday something that I noticed was the amount of people that have transitioned from ipeds to road zombies, at Paddington station i witnessed several people bumping into each other whilst engaged on their online world, look up grunt or shrug and then walk on doing the same.

This weather, either it is banging down with rain, or blowing a gale, or both. Getting properly fed up with headwinds now.

    Isn't it?

    B@stard weather.

Afternoons only though. The nice sunny mornings where I can look down at my wahoo and fondly imagine I have talent are excellent...obviously the work environment and large lunch sap that talent and leave me grovelling hopelessly at 25 kph on the way home, while moaning that my legs hurt.

Back on the bike after a few weeks off for various reasons and the handful of PRs for the morning suggests a nice tailwind, really paid for if with that headwind last night though.

It also appears that someone has spread a few gallons of diesel all over the road at the cambridge road/london road lights in Kingston. I only join cambridge road for a hundred metres but it was right across both lanes the whole way and nearly hit the tarmac as I went to weave through traffic.

Did anyone see the sign on priory lane about it being closed? I just about caught 'closed to cars and cyclists' but didn't catch the dates.

Feck me the wind was hard work last night. about 3/4 of the way back i hit a massive pothole hidden in a puddle and almost came off and after that it seemed the wind was even worse.

10 mins from home i'm thinking, my god i'm knackered, i must be ill. Then i realised that the pothole and buggered my back wheel and i'd been cycling with the back brake on basically!

Bumped into 2 colleagues at the bike racks who said it was their first time riding in. Virus dodgers both. Lovely morning for your first ever ride in.

Found my rear tyre flat this morning. Giant cut in a 2 or 3 week old GP5000, umming and erring over whether to bin it or cross my fingers. Also only 30 psi in the front tyre. Pumped everything up to normal and nearly had my teeth rattled out of my head - thinking back, I can't remember the last time I pumped my tyres up.
  • Barely any train w4nkers heading into the stations that I passed, our work is busy but mass WFH test day tomorrow... got pulled out on at the text book pre balham junction, guy behind me was losing it at him so I joined in.

They might get a bit of a surprise when they try to ride home. These days it feels like heading West requires at least 250W, in the drops, or you're not going anywhere...
