Glad to be back on the bike today after a nightmare PT home last night because Waterloo was closed. No SCR, the dip in temps didn't seem to have thinned out the herd, much chopping and nodding occurring but the mist in RP was lovely.

The trains were a chuffing nightmare yesterday. No trains in due to suicide #1 so I ended up cycling all the way in. Checked the web to see how things were doing and found out about suicide #2. Luckily managed to squeeze the bike on to a train as my legs just didn't have it in them for another 40+ mile ride in a day.

Perhaps it's time to put in safety barriers at stations...

You know its bad when there are train staff at Bank telling you not go anywhere near. A tube, two buses and a 25 minute walk got me home in the end. All while lugging a box full of new groupset with me. Prevention on a network that vast is a tough one, someone will always get through.

Thought I'd be ok without gloves when I left the office.

Not the best idea. I now know that 7.4°C in the Park plus hail is about my limit.

I wasn't aware it has a name, but there's a Sex Panther at Cavendish Place / Regent Street (if you're planning to head north along Portland Place).

Going 'round the back of the Langham is not an entry from the Viz Profanisaurus.

Had nothing into the headwind this morning so grovelled all the way in. Upside is tailwind to the pub this evening and cider!

    Same. Headwind was awful.

Had a rest day yesterday so thought legs would be full of watts... That wasn't the case!

Knocked off for the first time for about 10 years. Priory lane, driver stopped, looked, then just drove straight across, turning right into Clarence lane.

She told me she felt terrible, I said not as bad as I do, I've just been hit by a car.

All fine, few bruises. Bike ok.

Fcken big piece of glass lengthened the time of my homeward commute, as did me then extracting the valve core when unscrewing the mini pump after inflating the tyre.

Bit of scr with a chap on a silver and green cannondale fixie though, which was nice.

Was suddenly swarmed by roadie/promuter types just past Downham this morning. Two in particular seemed to be engaged in battle - shorter guy in black on a black and yellow Scott and a taller guy in a white Castelli rain jacket (didn't catch the bike). I bridged across to them after Homebase but lots of reds kept it all a bit stop-start so it was a wasted effort. The pace remained high into Catford then the Scott guy opened up a gap with some 'brave' filtering through the usual traffic by the town hall, and caught a draft off a bus going up Rushey Green. Castelli guy seemed to be flagging or at least not willing to chase him down, so I put in a big effort to bridge across, legs going like a fisherman's reel - it looked like it might pay off as the lights in Ladywell were green as we approached, but they changed to red at the last minute. Gah! Another wasted effort. Tis funny rinsing promuters on my shopping bike, they won't have it - Castelli guy had to go in front of me at the lights, where I was heartened to see evidence of shoulder movement all round. In fairness, I would be peeved too in his shoes, and he did get away well from the lights, with Scott in pursuit. I was fairly glad to see them both turn off for Deptford, as having to keep it going all the way up the OKR was becoming a slightly daunting prospect...

Annoyingly I couldn't be bov'd to Strava today, not that it matters much but I'd have been interested to know how quick I went bridging across - I'm fairly sure that's the biggest sprint effort I've put in yet on the current bike.

Felt like I was struggling on Friday legs, but it turned out I was actually going quite quickly and picked up several pots, which is rare after so long ploughing up and down the same route.

I went the longer embankment route but despite the beers last night and a head wind I was almost under the hour which is quick for that route? Something odd out there.

PT for the first time this year :?

Going for drinks after work so was planning on leaving the bike locked at work with my bag but taking lights/valuables out with me. Uncertain of whether I'd be riding home later or going out out it suddenly dawned on me this morning that I could just get the tube  oh yeah plus my rear brake gave up yesterday, I usually preempt the pads wearing out so hadn't experienced that one yet!

I think I made the right choice. Do enjoy a pickled late night ride home though...

Had a bit of back and forth with a lady on a single speed, grey steel, hydo-brakes number from Tooting "hill" to Clapham Common, before I turned off at Rookery.

I was determined to stay in pootle mode today as it's Friday, but she over took me on the hill (i had slowed for a red light obviously ;-)) and so i upped it a little. We swapped places a few times along on the way. I promised myself that i didn't engage in SCR just because i'd been overtaken by a girl, but rather because it was a bit of fun. Anyway, Chapeau to her.

On another note, I had a base-layer, Gabba 1 LS jersey and a gillet on as i left home. I was uncomfortable warm in the house and thought i'd be overdressed, but as soon as i stepped out, got hit by a gust of biting wind and knew i'd made the right choice.

Hope you're not too achy this morning KG.
I pootled in slowly on the pub hack as I have drinks straight from work tonight. That makes the 4th night on the trot this week, it's just like being 20 again. Considering I was in jeans and no Strava how can I be sure the ride really happened?

Owch, ffs. Hope bruises and stiffness aren't too bad today. Glad the bikes good.

  • I take it this new ULEZ has done feck all for everyone else's commute!

A little competition which helped celebrate me finally fitting that new chain and block.

I had a nice run in today, beat my own KOM into work by 19s averaging 31.4kph over the 12.4km.

Started raining 5 mins from the office but I wore my year old Castelli Idro Pro for the first time. Great bit of kit!

Ridiculously lucky having Starskied across the bonnet of a car on Thursday. Plenty of bruises, but only aches are where my shoulder must have twisted a bit oddly, or ribs or something. Friday a convenient WFH, and back on the bike this morning.

Both times I've been hit (previous time in 2011) are by a car turning right from the other direction across my path. My spidey sense failed my this time.

I doubt it'll make much difference while the black cabs are exempt. I just popped out to get lunch, and probably 90% of the vehicles I saw were (pre-2015) diesel black cabs.

So the driver just drove off? This is why I have a camera. She should be prosecuted!

    No, she didn't.

My mistake, I misread. I'd still advocate a camera though. Thankfully you and the bike are okay, but if it came to claiming for damages or personal injury it's certainly nice to have video evidence on your side.

Agreed, if it came to that, video evidence would be useful. This is the only time I've had a collision since September 2011, so I'm not planning on starting recording every ride.
  • Two Allez man d1ckheads out there today, I think i'd be better if they just jumped all the lights and were gone, not just a selection and then getting in the way when they don't.

Else, nice to see a chap on a tidy green and pink Tarmac in Southwark but it did look as though he'd been sold the wrong side bike, an expensive balls up.

Cold, hard headwind this morning was unforgiving which left me well and truly toasted. Few bits of competition from shoalers and RLJ'rs but all were dispatched to whence they came.

I alway thought a sub-30 minute or ~32kph moving time commute was possible. I always thought it would be on the way in though, given the prevailing wind.

Nope, battered it home last night in 29 mins and 56 secs moving time, 4 minutes longer elapsed. 2nd overall on the full CS7 southbound segment.

Legs utterly cooked into the headwind this morning.
