That was a fun ride in, with groups forming all the way in.

Lady on a Specialised called Esme (according to Strava) was doing much of the work, guy on a Ritte was there for a while, the IF chap, guy on a Bowman and a guy on a Trek who I think were buddies. Plenty of others in the peloton by the time we hit the Embankment.

    Anyone here?

And nice to finally have some seasonal weather :D

Yep, you sailed past me* just after entering the park and then must have slowed to admire the sunrise by pen ponds, because we came back together at that point together with the Spesh girl.

    * I was still warming up

What were you riding? Wearing Attacus bibs?

I vaguely remember the Spec which I passed in the park, but then they repassed on the descent from Ballet School hill. I'm not sure if it's complimentary or not that I didn't even notice that he was a she.

I remember slowing (only slightly) in the middle of the park as a small group in front of me were braking and I was convinced I was about to get blindsided by a herd of deer chased by some paparazzi.

I also corner like Bambi on ice around the Pen Ponds car park hair-pin.

Racing but definitely not racing was probably the last thing I needed with Friday legs, secretly glad that nobody followed me to Hammersmith.

    I noticed...

Matt, I was on a blue Sigma, I got caught at Priory lights when three of you went through.

    Hmm...

Today I was thinking - When you know you are in the wrong, isn't it best to keep quiet?

Approaching a ped light and in the bus lane, van on my right. I notice the van stopping about 10 meters before the light and before I realise why, I see a mum stepping out on the road with her kid. Me going at 30kph plus meant not a great idea to try and stop and as I had plenty of space, just swerved around. The moment I passed them, I got a sarcastic "thank you".

Mrs whatever-your-name-is, the ped light is a 10 sec walk away. I am under no obligation to stop for you in the middle of the road just because you are feeling lazy on a Friday morning.

So was she stepping off the kerb to your left? In which case why the hell didn't she see you. If she was unsighted by the van it's still a dick move on her part because a bus at 30 would be a lot more unforgiving than a bicycle.
So basically she thinks you're at fault for existing.

On the other hand if she was stepping off the kerb to your right and there was a traffic island in the middle which she hasn't reached yet, the Highway Code suggests you act as if it constitutes 2 separate crossings.

There's a junction at Farringdon where this happens every day. People can't be arsed to walk 5 yards to the traffic light crossing and instead squeeze between stationary buses and vans. I saw a ped get hit by a scooter there earlier this year. Annoys me every day yet they all look at me as if it's their right of way. Eejits.

Managed a bit of SCR on the way home. Approaching Kingston Bridge I spied 3 Lycra clad roadies ahead of me, managed to pass one over the bridge and was gaining on the other two. They upped the pace and I was still gaining slightly. One of them tried to catch a tow off a scooter. I was on them but we had to slow for a red light. They went left and I carried on. I was on the old MTB with slow tyre a rack and bag so definitely a scalp for me and two had a narrow escape.

Yep. If policymakers ever want to do anything about morning rush hour traffic congestion...

No bike for me, but I gave a cheery hello to abfg, trackstanding at a ped light on Kingston Road. He was momentarily confused, as I'm sure most of us would be seeing someone in civvies who you've only ever seen in bike kit & helmet! He made an impressive recovery though. :D

I used to go to the post office in Balham in my bike gear to pick up parcels on my way to work. So much so that when I went in there in civvies and my new girlfriend the guy behind the counter, Dave, turned round and said sorry didnt recognise you in your clothes

Otherwise, chilly and quiet out, just how I like it. Complemented a guy on a Cervelo track bike and deep sections on Chelsea Embankment. That thing looked like an absolute weapon.

Yep, low levels of traffic until the point I realised it was half term, then traffic.

Good brief chat from Terry trainw4nker, it did take me a few seconds before I could start shouting abuse about you funding the RMT.

Else, I bumped into white condor chap, have never got his name, before riding with him and enduring the misery of Borough and London Bridge.

Is that the singlespeed condor? Bloke gives the impression of being quick, without actually being quick?
  • Yep, nice chap for a triathlete, lives just eat of the tram crossing I think, I did question the amount of Rapha he was wearing this morning. He can switch it on when required and is sometimes in early on gears on a Friday apparently, have never seen though.

  • 10 speed fully reconditioned, including a paint job by the wife. Chuffed with how good it looks (at least to me). Next addition is a classic front light that I'm putting a modern one inside.

Dropped a guy on a TT bike doing some intense track standing at the lights. Decent acceleration but surprisingly low top speed. Could feel him staring over, but just put the 'I'm focussed on where I'm going and haven't noticed you' blinkers on. Just had to make sure I didn't do it too intensely and hit him going to filter :)
  • This temperature is annoying, my different pairs of gloves are either too warm or too cold either end of the day.

Else nice ride, dropped everyone bar the shoalers and some pavement riding d1ck on an e-bike who almost managed to put himself into the side of a prius in southwark.

Gloves on the way in and mitts for the ride home for me. Rather dark and gloomy as well this morning, looking forward to the clocks changing for the morning at least. Time for the double lights and all that jazz from this weekend.
Slow ride in for me this morning as I was still half asleep, absolutely no competition as usual. Although I thought there was someone behind me at one point it was just shadows as the sun started to rise. Realised I didn't have the strength in my legs to drop the shadows.

Yep - I'm currently taking a lightweight full finger pair in the morning, and mitts for the evening, although yesterday was the first day I had to wear both arm warmers and full finger gloves on both rides...

Has anyone got an operational set of these still? I'm desperately trying to get an operational pair for comparison purposes.

I used to see a chap coming in with these lights. Comes in through Battersea and then on to the embankment but not seen him for a while. I asked him about them and he said they were still fine (using rechargeable batteries). They still must weigh a tonne though.
