Vimfuego came last year too, but he's also left us. Or at least started working from home so no commutes.

It used to be that we could just gravitate to the smallest, angriest man in the pub and you'd find you were in the correct circle.

These days we just send CJCP to the bar and when stops and turns around all the cycle commuters will be queued up behind him.

Tonight? Sure. I've got dinner at the Bleeding Heart at 7.30, but I can fit a couple of pints in before hand.

Guys, it's a Thursday. In the Autumn. Which is CX Season.

If you don't have family/work commitments you should be at the Old Deer Park at 7.30, for CX training. Or do what I do, and take your family commitments to CX training with you...

Forgot to say GWS reference that one.
Yes, I am always keen for a SCR pint but then never make it.
Am now trying to figure if I can rope grandparents into bringing kiddies to watch daddy race... I've a 3rd cat race licence, and am a couple of years off vets, what time do things start? what do I enter? and what tyres do I buy given i've a gravel bike with 42mm clearances?
Hopefully you'll make it for a pint this time. It's still ITB's round.
TOGTB posted a link to the entry, probably on the previous page. I've got one or two spare sets of tyres that will do the job if you want something, I'm in Kingston, tyres for a pint seems like a fair trade then you've got to go to the drinks  .
Will check family commitments and revert as to my entry and a beer based tyre handover at either the Antelope or the Albion (other SCR competitors welcome)
If I know you, and I like you, you can borrow my bike box for £30 a week. PM for details.

Ah, mother in law has agreed to have kids on the sat night. Seems like I'm in. Will enter officially tomorrow. Vets 40+ for me,. Old bastard that I am. I'm sure I'll be bleating for advice in the coming weeks, and may turn up on my daughter's bike with streamers and a basket. I've been googling cx dismounts. Going to be in the park this weekend practising.
  • I'd be up for drinks now the move is done and dusted. Was out in RP today doing a few laps. Got unexpected gravel riding in because I forgot that the road between roehampton and robin hood was closed and took to the trail. That will be the extent on my cx'ing for this season. Did get to wondering if the whole lap was resurfaced if there would be a big chunk taken out of the KOM's.

I practised bunny hops in Richmond Park before last year’s race and a passing dog walker asked whether I thought I was a bit old for that.

Do SCR'ists periodically meet for a pint?
Annually at Christmas. I met a few last year.

If there's one I'll time my London trip with it :) In the UK from the 22nd till about the 12th of January.

Took this last night on the slightly longer commute home. Not sure how I make such nice views so plain. My wife has banned me from taking photos because I somehow always make her look fat.

Can't partake in much SCR at the moment, this month has been brutal. Tweaked my knee and calf this morning already, and thinking about doing an 180 mile round trip over the weekend. Bring on October and a rest!

The picture may not be great but it's still a damned site better than my view of Hanworth.
Managed to wobble in to work again today, Bushy Park still shut early doors but I managed to catch a bit of a tow off a bus at least.
It would seem I have managed to get a pass for the 14th, convinced the Mrs in a moment of weakness. I think she's worried about my sanity at the moment so trying to placate me. The first question is do I go for the V40 to make you lot look good or do I go for the V50 as I'm an old git?

Has BMC Crapstand man got a new bike? Similar look with Zipp wheels and skewers at a jaunty illegal angle but on a Cervelo. Cold and my body trying to work out whether I've also got stomach trouble meant I relegated myself to spectator mode today.

I might pop along since i'm free. and shout encouragement?

I have actually found some pretty bits of Hanworth, mainly Hanworth Park which is quite Bushy Park like though not so many deer! since my cull free route is also fairly traffic free though is getting rather muddy!

    Yep, that's the one!

I'll be somewhere around the start/finish area wearing jeans and a Wheelers jersey/jacket, and pretending to look important; come and say hi!

We'll have top notch catering onsite - coffee, other hot drinks, home-made sausage rolls etc from The Selfish Bean, and fries/sausages from Real Belgian Fries.

Not this year but I did it last year. Good fun yet super tiring. I did the Revolve24 a few weeks back. Overall I think I preferred that but the Red Bull event is worth trying out too.

We had pretty good weather last year besides some rain on my 7am shift (and the headwind switched to face you up the finish hill/straight). It's a pretty narrow circuit so can get a bit sketchy in places.

    Beer?
Is the slowest person in the V50 much slower than the slowest in the V40? Not sure if I should go in the V40 with the rest of this rabble or go it alone with the really old.

No beer I'm afraid, unless you BYO; couldn't be bothered to add licensing requirements to the already extensive job list.

I'm not sure the standard's that much different, to be honest. If I recall correctly the guy who won the V50s last year would have been top 5 in the seniors, and top 3 in the V40s. Difference in ability/fitness seems to count for more than age, so it's quite plausible that the slowest adult could be in the Senior category, it just depends who turns up. V50 field size is a bit smaller; last week (albeit at a very popular venue) there were 131 V40s, but only 102 V50s and a mere 88 Seniors.

I think I'll go for the V40 so I can jab a stick in CJ's spokes every time he laps me. I think the organiser should then introduce a handicap system so anyone in their 50's in the V40s gets to take a shortcut, especially if they ply the organiser with beer.

Cool! If you have any issues with the BC site forcing you to enter V50s, do that and then give me a shout; I can get into the BC back end and move you.

Short cuts - I think I can do this; I can engineer a diversion about 500 yards before the finish line, which will miss out the whole start/finish area and cut off about 1km of the course. Will that work?

He has indeed got a cervelo nowadays, looks like a similar endurancy carbon spec

We're using 40cm hurdles. That's the maximum; some races use lower ones. A few people do bunny hop them, but they're a small minority. We'll also have a set of steps which are sort-of rideable, though I've yet to see any evidence of anyone gaining an advantage by doing so.

It's actually a very newbie-friendly course; come along and have a go!
