Minor altercation with a taxi driver this morning on Tooley Street by Tower Bridge who thought it was acceptable to (i) pull a u-turn in front of another cyclist (not me), then (ii) immediately park in the ASL, and then (iii) blast his horn at the cyclist for putting himself at the front of the ASL directly in front of the taxi's bonnet.

Being distinctly unimpressed with this behaviour I took it upon myself to also stop in front of the taxi, make a deliberately veeerrrryyyy slow start when the lights turned green and then do exactly the same to him at the next set of lights. Cue barrage of abuse from the taxi driver and some choice words in return. Traffic got heavy after that so I was off and away. I really hope he turned onto London Bridge and got stuck there for a while - perhaps he's still there now...

  • Thinking of crap falls of Kingdav's type. Chapeaux to myself last week trying to get sunnies out of my framebag while waiting at the lights to head south over Southwark bridge. Keeled over right while clipped in laughing as I did it. A few people were concerned but I just looked an utter lemon.

As for this morning, a bit of action through usual noddery slowness.
If I know you, and I like you, you can borrow my bike box for £30 a week. PM for details.

Nice tailwind this morning, PR on Castelnau, but someone kept on my tail almost all the way to the bridge. Anyone from here?

I reckon that was just before 10.30 then. Tash and I were hanging out of her window listening to it, was amazed we could hear it in Kingston.

WTF! Surely there's over a mile to Twickenam from Kingston in a straight line? That must have been some pretty good dB's!

Wind direction, stadium layout etc will play a good part.

Missus was sat outside the house listening to Ed Sheeran play St James Park a week or 2 ago.

St James Park is only 5 miles away.

Could well believe it, the valley I grew up in, sound increases depending on how far along you are, and the shape of the valley, can alter quite quickly over short distances.

Many years ago when they where demolishing the steelworks I was a few miles away, and could feel the thumps in your rib cage. Sound and vibration can travel a awful long way.

Absolute chopperthon this morning down embankment. Not seen it that bad before. Strava says I rode with Rhodrich apparently!

Last night was a weird one too. Rode most of Chelsea embankment to Putney with a gent in bib shorts over a collared work shirt. Quite the combination def not aero at all. The some absolute bellend driving down the shared path between ham x and pen ponds. Remonstrated with him but appears zero f#@ks given.
  • Yet another chat with someone about my framebag last night, it seems a fairly decent amateur racer, he detoured through Wimbledon with me to avoid dirty tooting, thankfully he was riding at a relaxed pace.

Else, WFH today so zero nodders.

I had wondered why you were taking that route! I came in late today meaning CS7 would be a carpark, so more or less did that route from my house to Clapham Common. I'll go back that way too. Sure it's a more pleasant ride, even if it takes a bit longer.

Never a problem at this time of the year. I find myself happily putting in the extra k's on the commute. It's only during winter that i'm looking for the most direct route in and out.

Totally lost my rag last night. Standard car trying to force its way through a gap that wasnt there through the back streets of balham. Lots of beeping and swearing and trying to force me over into parked cars. That cracked me called her all sorts of stuff and some more when I repassed her further down the road. Not my finest hour and was furious for most of the evening after that. 1st time ive really considered cameras. Back to normal this morning and a projected 30 degress next week. Bring it on.

Sadly the "might is right" 4x4 Wandsworth tractors are all too common. A few days ago I had a corker where a mum carting her brats around approached from the opposite direction, indicated and just turned across me forcing me to swerve and jam on the anchors. I asked her what she was doing (politely) and she told me I should have seen her indicating. When I pointed out that use of indicators doesn't give right of way and she was totally unapologetic I lost it and went full anglo Saxon. I try to remain zen as much as possible but sometimes the provocation is too much, so you're not alone. And in 20 years of commuting, these sorts of incidents always happen with 4x4's in Wandsworth. Hey ho.

On the train of shame this morning. An early start and I was surprised at how busy the 05:36 from west ewell to Waterloo was. It's Friday FFS. who gets in that early on a freakin' Friday. They must be either overpaid or inefficient

But fortunately for me it was for a good reason. Am still on the train but now it's the Eurostar to Avignon on my way to Mont Ventoux.

Enjoy working for the man suckers.

Fool, i'd already been on the road for 15 minutes by then.

Today's surprise was glancing down at my feet on a quiet straight bit of road with no side roads as I approached a pinch point, thinking I was safe. look up a second later to find a mini cab, overtaking another car on my side of the road coming straight at me into the pinch point!

So many people who couldn't stand being passed tonight. Impossible to keep a steady tempo as they'd just re pass then slow down. Award for prize nob however goes to the bloke on the Ti frame who kindly matched my speed as I was passing on Priory lane then held it so I couldn't pull back in. If you're not happy with your own speed, don't sit at it. If your ego is not happy about someone coming past, wait and re pass when appropriate. Probably should have left that in the rants thread...

What a beautiful morning, loads of people out on bikes even on my suburban ride. There were at least 7 or 8 at the Hampton Wick lights, with a couple of wobbly trackstanders among them. Then got caught napping in Bushy Park by a chap on a tasty looking Cervelo after I slowed for a family group. Caught him again at the gate and stupidly wound up ahead of him and he was riding the same way as me, only lost him through my more aggressive filtering. Got to work and coughed up a lung. Good fun though.
Yesterday I had a tryer on a Boardman, wasn't quick enough but was jumping on the pavement and running red lights which just made me more determined to stay ahead of him. Finally dropped him when the road opened up.

Beautiful morning. No real SCR this morning, as there didn't seem to be that many bikes on the road.

Come to think of it, there wasn't much in the way of motor traffic this morning either. It all seemed relatively light, like it was school holidays already.

Echo the lovely weather. Definite probable SCR for me though, with a woman. Stockwell until she turned off right in Borough. Long dark hair, yellow bar tape. She was definitely probably trying, and though I was quicker than her (extra weight = extra watts), she was competitive. Bunny hopping iron works in the road too (her, not me - I just bulldoze them). Good start to the day! Except having to go over London bridge, which is a sh!tshow of buses.
