First morning where the Drift Ghost X wouldn't turn on, and rather than fiddle with it just rode to work.

Cue f*tard throwing a can at me this morning, not on camera :(

Ps - All this bloody "Should cyclists be licenced" coverage across Radio, Media and TV from a single incident involving Lord Wilson - topped off yesterday by "This Mornings'" coverage of it, with some bloke called dave sherry representing the "cyclist's" view quite badly, and not getting the real message across.

The people who think that number plates stop road users breaking the rules have never been near a road.

I took the longer route home,as Im getting bored of the close passes on the normal route, so got close passed by a Nissan navara as I tried to take the lane to turn right at a roundabout instead, not really a vehicle you choose to have an argument with

but the idiot wasnt even turning right anyway. he was going straight on and had to stop behind traffic waiting at the entry line anyway, it was like the most pointless of pointless must get in front moves, I resisted the temptation to swear loudly at him as I passed as his window was open

What was with the sunglasses on the TV yesterday? Can't see how registration plates will work, the government has already said it won't happen and Prof Robert's pollution claims have yet to be substantiated with proof. People have asked him to back up his claims and he still hasn't after three years.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Have to say, it's rather indicative of the current state of affairs that rider after rider gets knocked off and killed due to poor infrastructure and nout gets discussed but when a Lord suddenly has an altercation it's his views that are on the national news.

    Sorry to hear that mate.

Hope today goes as well as it can...
  • Thought lurgy was going Monday, did a decent turbo session after work. Felt shattered yesterday afternoon, went back to bed, threw up my lunch in the evening and today my nose is streaming again while my muscles ache like mad.:/

hearing a vehicle behind you accelerate hard, see that there's nothing in the oncoming lane, shoulder check, and realise and watch as they perform a deliberate punishment pass in a transit with trailer.

Really sorry to hear that CiB, my thoughts are with you. Went through it myself late last year, as Rick says I hope the day is as good as it can be.

Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.

agreed :( & then you get the whole money saving supermarket go compare the meerkat expert stuff on twitter, who has spent all his time after running his daft poll about whether the Lord was right or not, complaining that people questioning him are just "militant cyclists".

yes its now "militant" to believe that you should question people who think its absolutely necessary to license anyone to ride a bicycle on the road.

Reminds me of that spate of deaths in London a few years ago. Although the story was building I think the media really picked up on it when a journalist was hit.

The professional institution that I am supposed to join for work set up a cycling safety commission on the back of it to recommend to the government what they could do about it but AFAIK nothing ever came of it.

I tried to quit twitter a few months ago - so much hatred on there, but got dragged in by a friend. The likes of John Stevenson and a few others have been particularly foul mouthed about it, and don't help the cause, ( I saw he re-tweeted one of his), but equally he's not re-tweeted and called wrong those that have been saying that cyclist should be run over so the "balance" isn't there.

I think boardman's response was about spot on though.

Generally is. He has to actually try and get something productive done, rather than just speak nonsense.

Hope it all went as well as these things can, and you've got friends and family around to talk to.

:) Thanks for the very supportive comments gang. Much appreciated.

Fwiw Monday & Tuesday were sh!te days, the day itself [Weds] was a beautiful sunny day with the full gammut of sadness, laughter & a few tears. I'm blessed with many siblings, we're all old enough to get on really well these days as do our numerous offspring. It was a good end, a good way to conclude a long & very satisfactory life.

    Thank you.

Almost ended up over the rear of a car this morning :(
Travelling along in the bus lane, car overtook in the normal traffic lane, before the driver then started pulling left into the bus lane for the junction about 30m ahead.
I'd shoulder checked as there was enough space, and on looking forward, rather than completing the turn, the driver had just stopped fully in the bus lane - by which point I was doing 20mph with the back of a parked car ahead of me, and a car on my right - no where to go other than the pavement, which was thankfully clear, and I managed to stop about level with the passengers door.

Driver pointed left at the junction they were about to take, and said through the open passenger window "Sorry mate, I didn't want to cut you off, so I stopped".

my answer was a "little" guttural.

If they'd actually taken the frigging corner normally, they'd probably have been completely off the road, or at least given me some space to skim past them on the right.

Or better yet, just wait about 6 stuffing seconds until I'm past the junction.

    Rant at myself here...

Guy in front of me slammed on the anchors at a zebra crossing and I clattered into the back of him. Entirely my fault, I wasn't drafting and was a good 5 metres back but I just didn't stop in time. Total lack of concentration compounded with a bit of an issue pulling the levers while on the hoods (small hands, SRAM Rival brakes).

Gave him my number in case anything turns up on his bike but it seemed OK.

    Annoying.

A fairly mild rant but just been out along embankment/CS3 to get a falafel from the city (Garbanzos in a lane behind Eastcheap, best falafels in London), and I can't help but be slightly annoyed by joggers who use the cycle lane. Not quite sure why but it just irks me.

They were trumped on the way back by a fire engine with sirens going, using CS3 to get through all the lights along Lower Thames St around London Bridge/Monument.
  • My excellent fortune with ill health this year just gets better...

The mild lurgy (a head cold with thicker nose and throat mucus, plus a bit of physical fatigue thrown in) I've had for ~4 weeks has this morning been replaced/superseded by the lurgy which caused my better half to call in sick over last weekend. :(

Woke up with a sore throat, but already the next phase has begun to kick in, a tight chest... With lovely coughing fits to come if it follows the same pattern.

... Just in time for the lovely Easter weather that has started today.

Lurgy above the neck, ride but take it easy. Lurgy below the neck, don't ride.

What a joke. PC involved now has an email with some questions to answer "i suspect the correct procedure/law not followed"

    Anit rant

Surely they have access to the address of the registered, send it to them and ask for the driver's details then if that's not forthcoming then the RO gerts done for the offence.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Yes but they have rung the driver up and he says hes moved and he wont come in for a meeting its all just rubbish and excuses for someone not doing something when they should have I'm in the process of trying to find out who, what and when.

    I suspect one of;
1 Failure to issue NIP to registered keeper (was a hire van and sent to hiring company)
2 A failure to understand the S172 process
3 The time limit in RTAO s6 being exceeded

    Time will tell

Three drivers thinking it's OK to use their handsets in queueing traffic all spotted in the space of 60 seconds, one of them appeared to be watching a video. Footage already shared with the local plod.
