When there's a loud bang from the rear tyre, and you try to get a quick look but you can't see properly because the wind makes your eyes water, and the water makes everything blurred when you tilt your head down, so can't tell if there is a puncture but everything starts to feel sluggish, so you think you have a puncture, but when you stop everything is normal, and the sluggishness was all in your head, and you'd simply run over a stone which had pinged out sideways.

Sadly it's not just in town we get them out here in the boons as well, makes you think WTAF is going through the minds of a cyclist dumping rubbish in the countryside, clearly not everyone enjoys riding in our beautiful *country.

    *apart from the shite weather

I remember doing an organised ride once when an old boy on a touring bike that was clearly a very experienced rider changed an inner tube and just tossed the old one into the hedge because it was past repairing.

Couldn't believe it, a callow youth possibly, but someone like that should know better!

Nearly got killed by a large slab of waste fat who decided to cross the road at the bottom of CP Park hill on weds without looking and with me heading towards him at 35mph odd. Very luckily for me he heard my second shout and jumped back just in time to miss me skidding into him - must've missed him by a hair. Penge really is the murder mile on that route.

A motor cyclist pulled up beside me at the next lights and complimented me on my avoidance skills.

So instead of spend money doing something useful like permanently fix the lifts or publish the lift status on t'internet, Greenwich Council have splurged money on a stupid scrolling LED "No cycling allowed" messageboard in the Greenwich foot tunnel. Unless it's intended as part of works to allow considerate cycling at certain times of day, what a massive waste of time and effort. There're plenty of signs already. Lifts really are useless too, I reckon since the refurbishment 'officially' opened there's been a lift out of service an average of at least once a week, a figure not helped by the regular week-long+ closures.

Drivers who assume that just because they would lurch out into traffic, so should anyone else. Rear-ended by just such a Mercedes as I pulled up at the Mitcham duck pond roundabouts not Thursday night. Thankfully, just a nudge.

Near death experience on the east lancs road today when some utter spunktrumpet decided that approximately three quarters of an inch was perfectly adequate space for passing me at 50mph. Thank f*** my spidey sense was tingling and I had a 'feeling' he was going to punish me for having the temerity to be cycling on his road. Had a bit of a speed wobble as it was on a downhill so was doing about 35mph myself, but managed to stay vertical.

Was gratifying to see another driver motor up alongside him and remonstrate with him at length as he passed (tried to catch him at the next lights to bollock him but it was too far).

Worst experience I've had so far this year - almost a year after I came off on the same road and smashed myself up pretty bad. That Road is a death trap

Replacement wheel & hub from Decathlon for the faulty seals one ridden for the first time today.
Large bang and a visit from the p$$#%*' fairy as i head around a corner, cue landing sideways as I lost all grip.
They had swapped all components from the old wheel to the new one, except the rim tape.
No point trying to fix the puncture or replace the tube.
Walked home & on PT today then :(

New (renting) neighbours moved in at the weekend, they decided to test how solid the spiral staircase is by climbing and descending it repeatedly with antique diving boots on followed by an hour of something Iron Maiden-esque this morning (08:00).

Knocked on his door, to politely ask them turn it down a wee bit, ignored, went to work early as couldn't be farked listening to that racket... P rick. TBC.

Report them to the landlord and the council.

I've already done that a few times.....but the company has moved since the last time! so perhaps worth another shot.
  • It's a sorry state when hobby bobbies have to monitor the CS3 lollypop attended pedestrian crossing. The new lollypop lady isn't as forceful as the previous, but why would cyclists still risk the safety of school children by jumping the zebra crossing whilst pedestrians are crossing?
  • Now the schools are back, I want to rant about the stupid parents dropping their kids off in BMW X5s, Audi Q7s and the like at Newton Prep school in Battersea. Utterly selfish pricks who insist on protecting little Tarquin and Tabitha by wrapping them in a metal box whilst polluting the air and blocking the road, endangering the lives of the other children whose parents walk with them to school. There's a massive difference between last week and this week and it really winds me up.

its so sad that no one seems to have any respect for each other anymore, regardless of cyclist ped or driver.

You only have to travel on a peak hour train everyday to realise no one gives a damn or live in the countryside as i do and people at a public event will just push past you and not even look at you or ask to get past, basic civilised manners are all but gone in my opinion.

No doom and gloom from me I dont do that but being of a certain age now I can see the difference in attitudes

Quality effort from a van driver this morning. On Plodder Lane (yep, that's a real road Oop Norf) he passes me pretty close, but there are traffic lights all along there so naturally 100 yards up the road I pass him back. After the lights have changed and he's caught up, he passes me again, then when I try to pass him back as he slows for the next set, he pulls out to the right preventing me from doing it. So I then pop down the inside to pass in the bike lane and he moves to do the same, but is blocked by the stationary traffic so has to let me go pass. As I ride in front of him, he starts shouting and gesticulating at me for passing him on the outside. When I pointed out he was stationary in traffic at the time he said what I was doing was 'dangerous'. Pointing out that a motorbike had done the same thing to him literally five seconds earlier, he advised me that motorbikes are 'different', because they pay for the upkeep of the roads. So - apparently - not paying 'road tax' means I'm not entitled to pass anyone who does, and should just sit in traffic, taking up space until they pull away.

I just laughed at him - which only served to enrage him further. Shame for him that he sat in traffic for probably the next ten minutes, travelling about 500 yards, whilst I was at the end of the road and on my way a minute later. Complete plum.

I think the new lady is far better than the old one - she is just as good at getting the kids across the road safely and is much friendlier. The hobby bobbies - were ridiculous. I have been knocked off twice on that road - and have helped half a dozen cyclists who were also carved up by people right turning across the path; there is always red light jumping by cars and bikes at both major sets of road lights (saw a nasty bike on bike at Leman when both bikes were RLJing); the Tower Hill end is a complete nightmare with peds, cars and bikes fighting for limited space due to the roadworks - so where do the plods decide to stand glowering at everyone? At the one place where +99% of the time people behave well because it is an attended crossing for children.

I'm so happy I don't have to use the tower hill end of the CS3 any more, was always horrible when busy. I often use east india dock road/ commercial road now (if I leave early enough) and what winds me up is the staggering amount of blatant red light jumping of cars/vans/lorries at the rotherithe tunnel - they basically hog the middle lane which is ahead only then queue jump when the left filter turns green. Been rear ended by a car RLJ'ing there and it's not uncommon for motorists to aggressively rev their engine or toot their horn if cyclists/motorcyclists dare to obey the law. I see a minimum of 4 a day (more often a lot more than that) do it yet when I asked an operation safeway muppet about it stationed 100 yards further down at an empty ped crossing they didn't give a toss.
  • Told off some moron who was weaving about the road for using her phone whilst driving. Typical trash starts gesticulating and telling me to mind my own business. As I get closer to the car I see she has a child of about 4 in the passenger seat. What a wonderful example she was setting, and what high value she places on the life of the child...

If they enforced the box junctions around Limehouse (and the bit around the Blackwall tunnel/cotton street) they'd make £1000s a day - but that's too obvious and easy. Only ever seen plod there once before, one poor guy on his motorbike trying to move the traffic along, so many people were blocking the junction, he was just a forlorn figure.

The clusterf_uck around the A11/commercial road junction continues, why even bother with ASL boxes if they are 100% full of buses and HGVs

What route do you use - after 15kph for half of CS3 last night in a huge swarm of nodders I am willing to give other routes a bash
