I've just retired (for now) my Hoy frame, as Dolan have given me a replacement for my failed-BB-within-warranty frame (actually that bit should go into anti-rants).
I am in the process of transferring all the Hoy's bits onto the new Dolan.
I went to the Strava "My Gear" page to edit the details on my Hoy bike. I "retired" the old parts and noticed, too late, that the previously-retired chain in my list of retired parts had now been deleted, together with its data, and replaced by the "new" retired chain. I'm sure this is new, I am sure on my previous Dolan, for example, I had several old chains in my retired list together with data such as miles done using it, dates added, dates removed etc. Now I've lost that data, VERY ANNOYING. What's the point of keeping just the last one instance of, say, retired chain? Why not all of them?
The misleading thing is that there is a "Delete" option which suggests that simply retiring something should not delete anything.
That "My Gear" feature is poorly designed, in any event. It doesn't allow for Parts to have their own existence, and be easily transferred between Frames. You should be able to take or create a Frame and add and remove Parts from your virtual Parts Bin, and each Part should have its own record of miles done, date acquired, date added/removed to/from another Part or Frame, etc etc. With a knowledge of database design it would be straightforward to do. I might do it.
    Excellent rant, very specific

What'd they do with the frame? New version of the same. Ti, right?

Yes, new version of the same: Titanium ADX. But they've slightly changed the design & geometry: less-weirdly-outward-curved seat-stays (good), replaceable rear mech-hanger (good), longer head-tube (bad, as I was asked to keep my original fork/steerer, which no longer fit). However, "Ah of course, I didn't think of that, sir, I'll get a new one in the post right away" (very good). :D:D

I have noticed that some retired parts do seem to get deleted and as you say they are linked to one bike not a parts bin proper. I may ask as a feature request.

And my own rant is the cheap MTB I hired out in Australia whose both brakes failed descending a fire road, could of killed me I had a choice of routes had I gone on my orginal route would have been decending 15miles 5%, on road rather than a gravel track that I could keep the speed less than 10mph though almost back and one bit dipped down too much that speed touched 20mphish so A ungainly dismount/crash, seemed the safest option! Luckily took the brunt on my shoulder which though painful a sleep sorted it.

    Bloomin' cyclists!!

Three separate occasions this morning cyclists pulled out directly in front of me, requiring quick evasive action, slammed brakes and/or a few (remarkably polite) shouts!

The third one was a cracker! Bloke cycling on the back of a rear-steering tandem pops out of a side road on the left trying to turn across the road, gets stopped by traffic and then sits blocking the whole of Hills Road, Cambridge. Cue a swarm of cyclists slamming their brakes on and trying to swerve round him.

Witnessed a Cyclist on Cyclist (on a phone) accident this morning at a T-junction. Cyclist on the phone was coming onto the main road from a side road, looked right to check for cars, obviously didn' tsee the other cyclist, who was probably doing 20mph.
Both ended on a heap on the floor, with one with what looked like a broken nose & teeth. The guy on the phone tried to get away, but I caught him & hauled his arse to the kerb.

    #bloodycyclists. :-(

And I obviously rant to much, my "most commented thread" is this one.

Rant at self; my other half had spotted a very nice Carbon steed (brand new with full DA throughout) for a little under 2k and offered to buy it for me on the condition that one of the existing bikes went. She suggested that my BSO; 95 hybrid was to go but I said no and thus, she's no longer willing to buy it.

    What was I thinking doh.

The only acceptable excuse is that you have another (better) purchase lined up and didn't want to ruin your chances of getting that.
  • Saw a chap riding his daughter to school/nursery approaching Tooting today. He was festooned with flauro/reflecters/herman safety wing/airzound. Was very annoyed at our road system/government needing to have a father do that to feel safe to ride with their kid.

The chap in question, I have upmost respect in you doing it, whether high vizzed up to the nines or otherwise and for scalpng me up through DT.
If I know you, and I like you, you can borrow my bike box for £30 a week. PM for details.

Red light jumpers - not bicycles in this case. Is there anywhere I can complain about persistent RLJ-ing? Heading north off Vauxhall Bridge the cycle lane light goes green right after traffic heading west from Millbank. Without fail someone jumps the light there well after the cycle lane has a green. This morning a van, a truck and a bus all jumped it after cyclists had a green, all turning left across our path on the bridge.

Whilst part of me is appalled at your decision, I kind of get it. The two would serve a completely different purpose, having an old hack to go to the shops or the pub is invaluable. I argued to keep my old Marin, but then I wasn't being offered anything to replace it with.
I would have taken the bling, and then found justification to keep the BSO later.

Sadly it's not just in town we get them out here in the boons as well, makes you think WTAF is going through the minds of a cyclist dumping rubbish in the countryside, clearly not everyone enjoys riding in our beautiful *country.

Last time she was taken to the vets, it was definitely about 3kg....oh the bicycle :D

    Stats;

weight: approx 12kg, 14kg with pannier
    age: 21years give or take
mileage: approx 60k, with one JogLe under her belt
cruising speed: around 18-19mph on the flat - 23 if I push it (like tonight), usually average around 16-17mph

The weight's only really noticeable when you come to an incline and then any momentum you may have had seems to disappear.

Jobsworth Goon hi viz jacket attempts to stop me taking usual route, apparently the 50m road in front of his building https://goo.gl/maps/VbydzAxtMiR2is private land and cycling is prohibited. I Didn't know this & wasn't causing any issues - I've been taking this route to avoid being killed in Aldgate for some time.

It's pathetic that land owners can do this, especially where there are busy thoroughfares in centres of cities, and where cycle routes just end because the land owner doesn't want to play ball.

Because of the guys stinking attitude, I will continue to take that route and will make sure to give a friendly wave every morning :D

Looking at the street view I am guessing that you are going in the direction of the view, rather than left to right.

If so then you might be on shaky ground as it does look a little "private property ish".
However if you are taking it steady and don't knock anyone over then I don't see a problem.

If you are going left to right then they should really poke it up their chuffer as that looks like a right of way!

Why tf do people only wear head lights and black clothing at night time?
Riding as a passenger in a car today had to stop the driver to prevent him turning right as a cyclist was in his blind spot without any lights visible via the mirror, as the light was above his roof. He could see the 2 cyclists behind him with similar headlights, but not the one beside him.
If your going to have a helmet mounted light, PLEASE have at least a firefly light at handle bar level, as per UK legislation.
