    Sheeesh.

Think you were actually lucky to not be more seriously injured or worse. Hope you (and the bike) are ok. What was he (I assume) like after? Apologetic?

Yeah, he was initially a bit defensive (didn't see me etc) but not aggressive or anything and apologetic, and glad it wasn't worse for both our sakes.

Scuffs to ankle, hip, seatstay, bars. Rear tube has been popped out of the rim so I'll have a look at the back wheel later.

But yeah, it could be an anti rant really, as I'm a bit fortunate

Blimey. This is what scares me about London commuting. You can be doing everything right and still end as collateral damage from someone else's idiocy or inattention. Glad you're alright.

Anyone considering buying 'handbuilt' wheels from Merlin, don't bother.

Rear came out of true within first 40 miles of riding, after they serviced the wheels I've managed perhaps another 300 miles on them and two rear spokes have failed completely in one ride, forcing me to cut short Sundays ride and leaving me £20 out of pocket for a cab home with my unrideable bike.

Their response? Terribly sorry, spoke aren't a warrantable item, tough shoot.

I'm glad they aren't listing those wheels for sale any more.

    They are talking nonsense.

The wheels are sold as a wheel - which part breaks is immaterial. Tell them that you want complete refund. Any manufacturers warranty is useful - but does not impact on your cast-iron rights against the seller.

Any purchase by a consumer from a trader is protected by law (used to be SOGA79 and is now Consumer Rights Act 2015).
These acts imply a set of warranties by the Seller/Trader into any sales contract with a consumer.
One of these is that the goods are fit for purpose and free from fault.
In the first six months - if the item fails in normal usage it is presumed to have failed due to a fault existent at time of sale unless the Trader can prove otherwise.
Goods that are not free from fault should be refunded, replaced, repaired (at Traders choice) and all at Traders expense.

It is very simple and Merlin do not have a leg to stand on if you have used the wheels in a normal manner (if you have been downhilling on set of roadwheels then that is another matter)

If they tell you otherwise or keep insisting that they have no responsibility I can help draft a letter to them

******* lorry just knocked me off.
Sitting at the lights. Behind a bus. Right in the middle of the lane. Lights go green. I pause for a second, letting the bus start to move. Next thing I know I'm on the deck. Bike is under the front and my legs are braced against the grill of the lorry in case I need to be pushed forward rather than following the bike under.
Fortunately the lorry hears the noise and stops.

    He didn't see me.

Despite me already being there before he arrived. I didn't filter in and sit in a small gap. I was there. Stopped. Waiting.
Couple of scratches it seems, and adrenaline shakes. Bike's got a couple of minor scuffs. Think I'll get the tube today and inspect the scuffs a bit more later.

    Stay safe kids

Glad you are ok - sounds like a scary one

 Agree with all of the above, very glad it wasn't worse. But probably not as glad as you are.

Yeah, photo of the front of the truck, drivers (first) name and number. And a witness who stopped and saw.
Was all very low speed really. Still, those lorrys look quite big when you're lying on your back looking up at them
I did lose it for a second, mostly when the driver was looking helplessly through the front window with me shouting that he'd just fcking run me over etc.
I managed to retain my sarcasm at least. Driver moved the bike and checked under the grill. Told him I reckoned his lorry was probably alright
(he may not have been checking if the lorry was fine or just checking there was nothing else of mine underneath - but the adrenaline was flowing freely by that point)

Good to hear your ok, could have been much worse and hopefully it's scared the life out of the driver so he's extra careful from now on.

Lorries scare the life out of me, especially when you see just how many blind spots they have. Add in a driver in his own little world and... [shudder] They really deserve no place in heavily built up areas.

I think that's being quite calm given the circumstances.

    It was these:
    http://www.merlincycles.com/pair-shimano-5800-hubs-mavic-open-sport-rims-71996.html?source=aw&awc=3361_1444836445_e309ec4ebaf830ad165e534e807fc900

I've written them a strongly worded email and they've now offered to collect them, so we'll see what happens.

Either way, I think I'd recommend against a Mavic Open-sport build for heavy/strong riders after my experience!

I drove home last night and saw a group of 10-15 of them on bikes having about 5 poundland quality lights between all of them. A group of three were taking up two lanes, wobbling around 5 mph and as they exited the roundabout they all stopped (rear of the bikes are still within the roundabout).

Oh the sport version, right those would be the cheap for lightweight riders rims that explains it, I only use open pro or the older CD version.

Oh yes and I'd recommend the cxp 33 rims with 32hh for the more chunky rider, the 105 hubs are very well made and will last an age in all weathers
