Hit by a right turning car on Sunday as I was filtering up to some lights in Walton. She didn't indicate as she swung it to the right. Held myself up by my elbow and tried to clip back in as I was dragged round the corner by her passenger door. Very luckily didn't come off. Lost the plot and shouted at her. An awful lot.

It's always conflicting when a woman driver does this, as it's not exactly chivalrous to do the first thing on your mind, but after that I think a good shout up was justified.

    Did you report it?

No point. She got an earful, no harm done to me (other than very shaky legs for 30 mins) and no damage to the bike.

The wife and I popped out for a pootle up to box hill and back today. Many rants- firstly it was my first time with spd-sl shoes and clipping in is more tricky than with spds. I kept making a right hash of it! Secondly I am so unfit that the wife thrashed me up box hill, really need to get fit again! Thirdly some close overtaking twunt got the middle finger from me and then proceeded to block the road and do the old "let's discuss this" thing. He then got an earful for being an idiot from 2 separate van drivers but still tried it again later, as well as another stupid pass. My wife then gave him a volley of abuse through his open window before he disappeared off. Probably the right thing to do as yo wouldn't want to get into an argument with her!

Still the ride was lovely, although slow and quite chilly. Winter is coming.

Agreed, he didn't hang around once the slight, only just 5' woman gave him an earful!

I guess I just need to get back to a super zen state and keep my finger unraised in the future, he really wasn't worth it. That and find a new route back from Box Hill as the one I use at present it the only crap bit of the ride.

    Glad you are ok.

I disagree with the not reporting though.
If someone does something like that and gets away with it, then it becomes, if it wasn't already, common practice.
Eventually she will do someone a mischief, it may mean someone doesn't get to go home that night.

Everybody makes mistakes, and whilst it does not always warrant a public flogging they need it pointing out.

Anyway, just my opinion and again, glad you are ok.

Ordered some stuff from Wiggle on 07/10 and was despatched on Thursday via DX :-( delivery attempted in the afternoon when I was in work so one of their magic as in you can't see it 'delivery attempted' cards was left but rearranged redelivery for Monday as I had the day off work and had no plans so could wait in all day, email confirms 12/10 as redelivery date.
Checked the tracking website and delivery date says 13/10 despite the other email saying 12/10 so I take to Twitter to sort it out. After a few tweets and DMs I learn that the parcel is being redelivered to a BS7 postcode when live in BS1,DX phone me a few minutes and the delivery address and date was changed on 11/10 online and cause of the number of redelivery requests they can't trace the IP address etc where it was made and can't get the parcel to me on Monday but they are delivering it before noon on Tuesday.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

  • Stopped to adjust my "speedo" and was passed by a bloke with no lights.
Caught up with him and said "None of my business but you really should have lights".
"They were nicked last night and I don't get paid until the end of the week" was the reply.

This was an unlit main road, and it was just getting light, so people stood no chance of seeing him.

I cringed as I carried on.

Oh hell, that's horrible. I'm sure you know to keep an eye in all the usual places, Fleabay, Gumtree, markets, etc. I had a bike nicked and found it on the Bay 6 weeks later as I was giving up hope of ever seeing it again. I'd already got a replacement by then.

Damn - that's sickening. Keep you eyes pealed on ebay and gumtree/preloved etc. Do not try to buy and arrange a meet unless you are tight-five build - I knew someone who lost his stereo and guitar to a burglar and then got mugged by the same bloke when he went to confront him.

Agreed, tempting as it might be. I contacted the police and they got it off the guy selling it. I then went to prove it was mine and clipped my lights to it before showing them the invoice with the frame number on it. Policeman said it was pretty obvious it was mine as soon as I clipped the front light on. Had to really pester the police before they got to that stage though.
  • Thanks all, to be fair the city of London police have been great so far. Will be checking all the normal websites and markets. Bike's insured so will go through the motions and let them and the police do there thing.

Bluddy f$cking crap FSA crank arms. Spindle insert on non-driveside crank arm of crankset (FSA SL-K Light) on my commuter is loose, meaning there's lateral play in the arm even when the bolt is fully torqued. This comes less than six months after having to bin the K-Force Light on the good bike as the pedal insert had come loose. Seems they can't bond the metal and carbon together. Written asking for a replacement to FSA and PX (where I bought crankset) as it's a well known issue and while technically outside of warranty it's perfectly reasonable to expect a crankset to last four years, consumables like chaingrings apart. Not going to hold my breath. Only possible silver lining is it was the drive side of the K-Force which broke, meaning I have a spare crank arm which should fit.

Anyone considering buying 'handbuilt' wheels from Merlin, don't bother.

Rear came out of true within first 40 miles of riding, after they serviced the wheels I've managed perhaps another 300 miles on them and two rear spokes have failed completely in one ride, forcing me to cut short Sundays ride and leaving me £20 out of pocket for a cab home with my unrideable bike.

Their response? Terribly sorry, spoke aren't a warrantable item, tough shit.

I'm glad they aren't listing those wheels for sale any more.

    I'll bear that in mind.

Historically (and I'm going back over 18 years) I have had several pairs of wheels from them, all of which have been excellent.

However I guess employees change and without a doubt the person who build my snowflake spoke wheel in 1997 is no longer there.

Fucking lorry just knocked me off.
Sitting at the lights. Behind a bus. Right in the middle of the lane. Lights go green. I pause for a second, letting the bus start to move. Next thing I know I'm on the deck. Bike is under the front and my legs are braced against the grill of the lorry in case I need to be pushed forward rather than following the bike under.
Fortunately the lorry hears the noise and stops.

    He didn't see me.

Despite me already being there before he arrived. I didn't filter in and sit in a small gap. I was there. Stopped. Waiting.
Couple of scratches it seems, and adrenaline shakes. Bike's got a couple of minor scuffs. Think I'll get the tube today and inspect the scuffs a bit more later.

That drag up to Balham going South on CS7, I hit it last night nearly perfect, with my best speed on the downhill to date, followed by a slight bit of drafting, into top gear on the bike and holding a nice steady powerful rpm until the fecking lights go halfway up :x I reckon I would of got into the top ten with that last night.

Back lights that magically fall off in front of you. Last night heading south near E&C girls back light falls off as I am gently overtaking, I skip it with the front wheel but the back rides straight over it, cue light goes pinging across road into oncoming traffic, and is duly squashed. Female cyclist with earphones has no idea, and is upset that her rear light is now bin worthy. C'mon people it takes two second to check your light is clamped on proper, and if the clamp is faulty then buy/bodge another one! If nothing else it would keep my heart rate down
