Took the Italia into Condor today and eyed up the Fratello disc- it will be mine. That is not the rant though- this is: somehow my wife has managed to chat to one of the guys about getting a bike and is now booked in for a fitting etc to get herself a shiny new bike!RIP commute...

Upside: shared passion for cycling, joint rides, purchases that can now benefit the Menthel stable of bikes
Downside: true cost of hobby laid bare.Location: ciderspace0 -

She's had more bikes than I have!
Shame we can't cycle together until the boy is big enough to keep up apart from a few times a year. Not that I am on a bike at the moment anyway.RIP commute...

Champ-Sys race bib chamois has literally come apart inside. Bit odd as outside there's no wear, but inside half the pad has disintegrated.
Bit disappointing really as it's not cheap stuff and 2yrs of pretty light use seems poor.
Emailed sales. Wonder if they'll be as helpful as SKS were.0 -
People of the CS7 on your shiny new bikes, shoulder check for the love of god. Almost a TDF style crash last night as one noobie pulled out around a bus without looking followed by half a dozen sheep. lucky there was no on coming traffic at the time.Moda Prima 2013

Almost a CS7 style crash in the TDF today as some Nodder didn't shoulder check and nearly took out Chris Froome

Nearly rode into a horse on the way home tonight. Stopped just in time and let it walk ahead of me for 1/2 mile and called it in to the police as it was a loose horse heading towards a busy road.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

Was run off the road this morning by some twunt eager to race through the narrow country lanes; was at the edge of the road and his wing mirror hit me, pushing me on to the nasty bit of road / dirt interface; down I went and it felt like the full force of the fall was absorbed by my head.
Doesn't seem to be a mark on the bike or me but I've yet to hit the shower0 -

Did the person stop or drove away?
Take it easy today, make sure that you don't feel any dizzy or nauseous especially on your way back on the bike (if you ended up at work).0 -
Thanks, grazes on my shoulder and thigh and a headache, all of which are to be expected.
Person stopped about 100m down the road and then seeing I'd gotten up, drove off; too far away for a number plate read though.0 -
Glad you are ok. The dizzy/nauseous symptom is definitely one to look out for - I would also take some time out to go over the bike with a the proverbial fine toothed comb0

Nice day yesterday so opted for extended commute via the two tunnels route in bath as I haven't done it in a while, ups it from 17 miles to ~27.
Foliage obscured signage, missed my turning, took in an extra 300ft of climbing over 1 3/4 miles. More annoying was getting to the top and realising I did exactly the same thing last time I took that route.0 -
Saw a run over cat yesterday which really upset me. Thought it was a dog at first, in which case - Meh!
Then we find a dead mouse (intact) which our cat decided to leave in my wife's handbag . I pick it up by the tail and the damn thing comes off in my hand
Put it outside as a treat for the 2,000,000 Red Kites round here and not one of them has touched it. Flaming birds usually swarm round like flies and just when you need one...
It's just a hill. Get over it.0 -

Groups of drunk students on the tow path yesterday (Friday) evening. The girls seemed to think it would be funny to knock me off my bike as I cycled past them (very slowly). I could have ended up in the canal...0

Flying down Priory Lane and two kids threw a Lucozade bottle onto the road in front of me. Very nearly hit it as well.
They were pretty young kids so I don't think it was malicious, still annoying and dangerous though.Giant Defy Advanced 0 - Best

Rude roadies.
I really dislike rude roadies.
Did a longer loop home last night and came into the village from the North over the A453, passing a roadie at the top of the bridge just as he was setting off. He wheel sucked the whole mile down to the crossroads and when we got to the end where he swung left to me going straight on - he just swings past without a single comment, no thank you, nothing.
Just plain rude.Chunky Cyclists need your love too! :-)

Idiotic female cyclist at the lights near Hackney Central last night. I filter behind her down the left of a bus, only for her to stop on its left hand side. Said bus is waiting at the lights, indicating left. I pull up behind her and ask her if I can perhaps get past into the ASL. She moves forward a bit, but stays tight to the left hand kerb. I pull alongside to her right and ask her if she's going left (as I am). No, it turns out she's going right, so she intends to pull right across in front of the left-turning bus, and me, to go right. Honestly...couldn't help but give her a lesson on where to position oneself in such situations. A statistic waiting to happen.0

That idiot who filled up about 2 miles of road between St Albans and Harpender with fine gravel.
I had to take primary for all the way along as anywhere than the two valleys carved out by the car tires.
Two inches deep everywhere else and was a real pain once I had to pass all the stationary traffic.
Why are they doing this?0 -

They are doing a lot of that round my way too. It is a nightmare, I can only assume that whoever signs it off has never driven/motorcycled or cycled anywhere.
The biggest problem is they don' fill in any potholes or bad patches of road before doing it so the new surface is just as bad just a bit smoother into the holes!www.conjunctivitis.com - a site for sore eyes0 -
I'm clearly not committed in my riding.
Out in Mallorca and there's dozen of peeps out up the mountains on decent bikes in the heat of the day - 35 degrees or so. I'm journeying from pool to beach in air-conditioned comfort and marvelling at the Human Condition that drives them on to emulate a hotter TdF. Maybe they're all German Masochists?Location: ciderspace0 -
Pulled up behind a guy on cs3 with a good 20cm of shifter cable flapping around after the clamp on the rear dérailleur - it was bouncing on and off the cassette teeth. I called out to let him know that he needed to cut it down - he was really friendly but doubted it a bit. I mentioned that I had just replaced mine and noticed his was wrong and could be dangerous as it could catch in his gearing. He then mentioned that he had just had it replaced at a BIKE SHOP.
No bike shop should allow that sort of dodgy workmanship - the lights changed before we got round to which charlatan had done that job so badly0 -

Yep. Came across some in South Wales the other day. Didn't think it would be far. Got a mile in, it went on forever, 3 miles in total. Half way in, Highways Van parked, hazards on, have to go round it. Middle of road is inches deep in the stuff. Like snow, where the traffic was, nothing, but all pushed out beyond the tracks. My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)
