    Rant at myself, as usual.

I've entered the London-Surrey this year on the 2nd of August. Except I was convinced it was the 9th and as a result I'm on holiday.

The only event I had booked this year and I've managed to book my holiday across it.

    Bum.

Some analysis here if you're interested. Seems the CPS did a pretty poor job. Lots of questions not asked.

I am always wary of analysis from press reports but do feel that if a cycling pressure group was set up that I would certainly make a donation to fund some high profile civil cases.

Two bad days with lorry drivers while commuting in. I've written a complaint letter about yesterdays (with accompanying photos) and this morning... well, this morning.

The overtake did not start well:

    Got no better:

Note the car coming the other way that is heading for the grass verge...

I had to slam my brakes on to stop being pulled under the wheels.

Pillock running three red lights in quick succession then arguing with me about it for half a mile down Chapel St. Straight past a traffic jam full of fuming car drivers, and p155ed off pedestrians waiting to cross. I don't know why cyclists running red lights irks me as much as it does - but ffs, when you're caught out and get someone call you a prat for it, just cough to it rather than trying to justify it to yourself, me and the universe around you - then resorting to insulting me for being fat as I gap you.

Plastic bag wrapped itself round my chain, cassette and rear derailleur jockey wheels, locking up the transmission. Fortunately was at a point where I could free-wheel to a safe spot rather than anywhere dangerous, but not fun nonetheless. Took quite a while to extract it, all in the pouring rain, particularly as bits had worked their way between jockey wheel bearing and jockey wheel cog.

    Jeez

    Another one this morning.

    eric%20elliot%20lorry_zpsymvldgif.png

    Only this time:
    129

Double white lines where the line nearest you is solid. This means you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less.
    Laws RTA 1988 sect 36 & TSRGD regs 10 & 26

I was doing at least 25mph according to Strava topped out at over 33. I was forced to brake as the massive slipstream caused the artic had my bike all over the shop.

I think this one needs to go to the Police this time. 3 times in 3 morning commutes.

Reported on the met police roadafe site, whether that will achieve anything remains to be seen

Stupid plastic bobbies standing at junctions scratching their arses.

At Oval last night and two stood there doing nothing about the car parked right in the ASZ and then ignored the motorbike who squeezed in front. Finally they woke up and tried to talk to the car - just as the lights turned green. Useless twunts.

Ditto the pair in Beckenham who completely ignored four drivers blatantly jumping a red light at the junction.

Riding home at the start of the long weekend.

A big bang and a rapid deflation of the rear tyre. On closer inspection the tyre was completely ripped. I located a guilty looking bit of glass on the road. But I got on with it and fashioned some protection out of the contents of my handbag (inside my rucksack). Got to work pumping it up and at about 80% of the way there the valve snapped in half.

Got second spare tube out and got to work again before my other half offered to pick me up. I'm now almost more pissed off that I accepted and didn't prove to myself that I can do it!

On the plus side, three blokes stopped to check I was ok fixing it.

Suicidal squirrels. Had my first contact with one yesterday up near Rivington. Straight under my front wheel, and caught it's tail. Scared the ever-loving sh1t out of me as I was descending at the time. If it had been a little slower, or I a little faster I'd have gone arse over tit

Likewise, and I'm at the age where my Doctor has mentioned checking. I have been putting this off...

Definitely get it checked. Saw my mate when I went to the quacks yesterday and then he came to the pub in the evening, which was good. He's still waiting on one more scan but is feeling quite positive. They know what sort of treatment they are going to give him it's all just getting started now. He said the same thing I did. Getting the diagnosis is almost a relief as the uncertainty is gone and then you know what's going on and there is a path laid out for you.

Just out on lunch run and went past Lambeth Bridge. Terrible scene there and the 5th cyclist to lose their life under a HGV this year already. Thoughts with the deceased's family

    Cycle safe out there all.
