Pedestrians; filtering between stationery traffic, one decides to jump in front of me at 20mph (I know it was a bit fast but I was trying to catch the green), I'm guessing she's only just calmed down from the near miss.

Got home this morning at 02:50  with all the nightclubbers trying to walk home. As I got close to my flat I noticed one of them having a 'bladder issue' 4 doors from my place. He wasn't too happy when I illuminated him with my Fenix as I unlocked the door :)
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

The wheels I bought last monday are utter bullocks. In the space of 100 miles I've broke 2 spokes and had to true them too often as well as filling the rear hub with grease, one side was dry.

Ahh reminds me of my last house, we lived on the main route down from town. At around 1am on a Saturday morning I was watching TV/playing xbox, sounded like someone tried to open the front door... I was like nah couldn't have been. I then took a look outside after hearing it again to find some guy taking a p*ss on my front door... queue fireworks :D

Just had a "difference of opinion" with a bloke on a bike who nearly pulled out in front of me when I was doing 20mph up Ordsall Lane in Salford. Gave him an "oi, watch it" as he tried to pull out (surely the car that was giving way to me gave him a clue that something was coming?) and called him an idiot as I went past. He eventually caught up with me at a set of lights and said "you didn't need to call me an idiot". So wishing I'd used something stronger. I would have done if I'd ploughed right into him.

Had a dog wa*ker shout "It's not a race track you know" while cycling on a cycle path at approx 15mph (having just negotiated 2 very tight bends covered in sand, a step up onto a small bridge and a pile of stones)

Unusually for people around here, he kept to one side and his dogs (not on leads) were well behaved and did the same. I kept well to the other side and gave him plenty of space.

When I next see him I'll ask him what his problem was  .

Wiggle!! I need a new SS rear wheel urgently, tried all the shops locally with no joy so came home and ordered from Wiggle at 10:30 this morning and paid for priority despatch. It is still showing as being processed :( Luckily I've got tomorrow off but I would have liked to be able to fit it on my day off and not rush it on Wednesday when I have to leave for work at 12:30.

That's a surprise! Thought there were plenty of FG/SS bikes & good bike shops in Brizzle.

It's because of the FG/SS shop across the road that I need the Halo wheel. Admittedly the wheels were cheap but 2 broken spokes in a week and lack of grease in one side of the hub is bad whcih is why I'm using my Allez now.

A cabby actually drove into me (slowly admittedly) while I was stationary in traffic yesterday. I'd just filtered into the space in front of him and I actually think he hadn't even noticed that I was there. I was just stunned - didnt really have the chance to get angry, couldn't believe what had happened. To be fair it didnt degenerate into a shouting match after my sophisticated "what the fook was that mate you just drove into me" so I reckon he realised he'd cocked up. But really.. it comes to something when drivers cant manage to look straight ahead.

Incidently I think there's been a couple of dodgy rants recently:

    a) 15mph on what sounds like a shared use cycle path... that's definitely verging on the too fast. I'd agree its on the cusp but I don't think its rant worthy if someone picks you up on it. Get on the road if you want to do that speed.

    b) A ped steps out while you are filtering between two lines of traffic at 20mph? No sh1t sherlock. The reason why 20mph is far too fast for filtering is that the lines of traffic obscure everyone's vision and make that kind of event entirely predictable. Hardly worth a rant if you invite it like that.

I'm not trying to suggest that either cyclist is guilty of some grave sin just that "ah, fair cop" seems more appropriate than a rant.

She stepped out onto a busy inner ring bypass (dual carriageway), narrowly missing a lorry that was slowly moving forward and which obscured my view round it. I'd already stated that I had just cleared a green, which was why I was at that speed.

Sure I get that - you took a chance to clear a light, I'm sure we all do that from time to time. All I'm saying is that if you then have a near miss with a ped - it calls for more of a shrug of the shoulders, guess I asked for that, than a rant

I do accept the point that we have to accept responsibility for our own safety, so have to expect pond life to do thoughtless and stupid things.
However, pond life seem to absolve themselves of responsibility for their own safety and expect others to avoid them. This is not right. Besides this is a rants thread and is exactly the right place to moan about the thoughtless pond life we are surrounded by.
Besides, who says a rant has to be rational?

Yes, just the one. From what I saw as I went past him, it looks like a small torch attached to a lanyard around his neck. He was riding along holding it facing forward. As I went past he looked over his shoulder and saw a car catching up to him. So he swung the torch over his shoulder, so now the white torch was (dimly) pointing backwards. Unfortunately he was on a winding, but flat section of road with low hedges, so it would have looked as if he was much further away, on the other side of the road and riding towards the car (white=front, so must be facing the car, right?!) that was catching up with him, rather than being close by, on the same side, and riding away.
    ...

Why do i wish there was helmet cam footage of this?

It would probably help the coroner.......

I was driving at the time, so no cam. Even if I was on the bike I doubt there would be anything to see. It's on a pitch black road, and the light was no more than an LED keyring type thing.

You might have been able to sell it to a conspiracy website as footage of a UFO. A tniy white light randomly moving around a darkened sky
  • I just had one of those journeys home that make me think enough is enough :(

Was I surprised or shocked when i had a car pull along and the decide to drive me into the curb ... no and did i bother reacting no.
Was I surprised or shocked when I was cycling up the hill out of the way of the traffic and a car (I think the same car) came past piping their horn roasted coffee hand sign out of the window .... no and did I bother reacting no.
But when I unfortunately caught them up at the traffic lights and they started swearing at me I turned and I'm ashamed to say gave them the same coffee sign back. Of course that really helped the situation!! I am such a idiot :(
So cue 30 secs of them swearing at me and me calling them idiots and fools (I know, my brain doesn't work quick enough to come up with anything clever!). Luckily the lights changed and the were going the other way.

Now being a worrier I'm going to spend the next couple of weeks worrying whether this idiot is going to see me and decide to teach me a lesson.

Can I have a chorus of sympathy or failing that a MTFU :D

How about "you should have D locked the khuntz"?
In all seriousnees I had a similar incident escalate to the point the bloke got out of his car. I was angry enough to lamp him. When he walked round to the boot of the car and got a claw hammer out I quickly MTFD'd and decided descretion is the better part of valour.
Since then I'm a lot better at letting things go.
  • Thanks guys, that's exactly what I needed :)

Mad think is I think this was a family in the car, it was dark so a little difficult to see but it looked like a woman driving, a bloke in the passenger and two kids in the back. Great lesson to teach the kids! Did feel guilty for the hand signal in front of the kids but I think by the swearing coming out of the passenger they'll probably used to it

I'm definitely from the flee rather than fight school of thought so when the passenger door open I about ready to run for it but luckily the driver held them back and they obviously thought better of it! Sometimes it amazes me just how aggressive this country can be, i think i need to find a nice safe small island to live on. Anyone know one around 10 miles in diameter (good distance for the commute :D ) and preferably no cars, that might want a medical engineer?

Wiggle have redeemed themselves a little by offering a refund on the priority despatch charge but then spolied all their good work by using CityLink :(

I'd like to rant about the Bikeradar mobile site.

Not necessary. Even less necessary for the link from the mobile site to the normal site to automatically redirect you back to the mobile site. What Terry F**kwit programmed that?

Muppet on a roundabout this morning. Me approaching to take 3rd exit, him approaching from my left to take the same exit. I'm dressed like a chuffing canary head to toe in luminous yellow, with reflective bands on the arms legs & midfiff, flashing LED bands round my calves, two portable suns strapped to the bars to light the way and a wartime plane spotter light flashing away between them to make sure I can be seen. And muppet brain ignores me causing me to have a moment when he aims for the spot of road I'm about to be on. Good morning to you too sir. <hmmmphh>.

I can definitely say that going commando in a suit is not ideal.

Now, if only my boss could head out so I can go out to the shops and sort myself out.
