is there much cycling to be had over at South Weald park?

    Kevin

There is about an hour of riding at South Weald and not very technical, that's why we don't ride there would never get a 4 hour ride in as we do at Thorndon. :)

    We rode Sunday about 9:40.

Bumped into 2 chaps who know Thorndon well and we were shown more trails. Most of it dry and some of it excellent riding.

Looking to find mor and more over there, IMHO it's the best riding in S Essex.

....... Well, I got over there today. Started at Thorndon park car park just off the A128 (I think it's the 128) & rode right through to Warley Gap & the Izumi car park so I could explore a bit. Some mad tracks around there. Someone has built a jump park in there as well!! Not that I tried any of that. I jump about as well as an elephant

Had a bit of a crash where I slowed down thinking the track dipped away ..... but in actual fact it was a hole! I panicked & slammed on the anchors. My front wheel whent straight into the hole & I was catipulted over the bars. Doh!! :x

Going back for some more tomorrow morning

Just got back unfortunately. I went with a mate who has not ridden for about a year! He struglged a bit & after going back to the car park for a cuppa & what we thought was a break, before heading out again, he decided to call it a day .........

....... but not before he had an awesome crash on the same section (Warley Gap) where I came off yesterday. He rode the drop off perfectly fine but then tried to do a jump on the other side. He didn't quite make it & his front wheel dug into the soft stuff in the middle of the jump on landing. He was catipulted over the bars into a load of brambles

Might still try & get over there Saturday morning. Feel like I need a guided tour. From the Izumi car park & just seem to ride around a bit, find a track that leads to a jump park ...... and then get sort of lost! Still looking to build up a nice big loop around the whole of the Thorndon/Warley area. That would be good.

Thorndon ride Saturday 9am ski slope/kart track car park.

The trails have dried and I've taken the mud tyres off and put on the Nobby Nics. 8)

Just finished replacing 10 bearings in the suspension and bleeding the brakes so I'm off for a test ride over Thorndon now. :D

  • the loop that leads round warley /thorndon takes robert and me 4 hours and we still dont ride it all  there is so much over there you could ride all day what were the trails you rode like ? nice and dry?

A 4 hour loop? That would be great. Takes me about half an hour to get from one side of Thorndon to the other! Clearly I'm missing a lot of stuff out.

The trails are nice & dry now. There is still some sticky stuff in the middle of certain sections but there usually seems to be a dry path through pretty much everything. You just have to do a bit of snaking across the trails to avoid all the s**t.
  • thats good news going to be dry sat with some sun shine 8) bring it on

Do any of you guys ride those big jumps at Warley Gap? Because just looking at those scared the s**t out of me! there's one big drop off that follows a series of big jumps & very tight burms. The drop off is a North Shore style ramp that has been built up over a fallen tree with a platform that you launch yourself from. This runs immediately into another huge jump. Looks like fall on stuff to me :? I often bottle out of riding those little jumps  I jump about as well as an elephant. I think it's because of a bad jump I attempted as a kid on my Raleigh Striker that went horribly wrong :(

Damn. Just remembered I promised my mate I'd help him rip out his old kitchen this Saturday. No riding for me this Saturday then. Maybe next weekend.

Nic, nic, nic, nic, nic, allo, allo, allo, what's been going on 'ere then m'lad I 'ear you've been having a fight with a girl named holly and came off the worse for wear. :D

It must be 6 months since the trails at Thorndon were this quick, mud tyres have been on for nigh 5 months.

It was another great ride, I was out for 5 hours longest so far this year, but so much fun.

Right, I'm going to put my name down for next Saturday morning. This misses is working Saturday morning/afternoon so I'll drop her off & then head over there ........ that is if you guys are planning a ride this Saturday. Would be good to get a proper tour of the area from the experts. Do you guys ride those big jumps near the Izumi car park?

Anyone going to be riding over the Langdon Hills nature reserve in the coming weeks? I'll be over there after school in the evenings and weekends now the rugby seasons finished, so if anyone is up for a ride, PM me or leave a message up here.

Might try and get to the saturday rides in Thorndon as well, but will have to persuade the 'rents to give me a lift there... lol
