Hi Strodey,
Thanks for your concern. Today has seen a massive improvement though still a bit of discomfort. Should be OK for Ireland, Chiropractor certainly doesn't see an issue.
Won't be out on MTB before then though as I don't want to risk hurting it again and have to pull out of what should be an awesome trip and a lot of fun. We've got 75 riders now and I've put a huge amount of time and effort into the route planning, maps and route cards so it'd be a huge shame not to enjoy it.
Your link was broken it's here: http://www.spirthilltrail.uk.com/ Not heard of it before but am up for a visit in October! Only short, but hey variety is the spice of life!My guide to navigating using the Garmin Edge 800

What did you do to it rafe?
Ireland sounds good, i have been contemplating getting something for the road or at least some slicks as cleaning my bike each night after a 40min blast is becoming too much!Carbon is a mans best freind0 -
Crashed a car about 10 years ago and hurt shoulder. Then a few months later I was on a bus that hit a speed bump too fast (so fast some people were thrown out of their seat) and landed on shoulder. The two things were too much in quick succession so it's a bit knackered.
It's often a little uncomfortable, but every few years it seems to flare up, I go see someone, they put it right, and I carry on. This time though it's been really bad.
Know what you mean... if you like to keep bike nice and clean then it is a faff if you just go for a short blast. My guide to navigating using the Garmin Edge 800

Did a quick 15-miler yesterday, washed bike and packed it up. Then went into the office and printed off all the rider packs. I've just finished packing my bag. As you can imagine, that's made Ireland feel rather imminent!
My bike will be fitted with a real-time tracker. So if any of you are in front of a computer this Thur/Fri and want to see where I am in my 200-miles-in-2-days epic, then visit:

After the event I'll be back out on the MTB as the poor thing is feeling very neglected. See you then!My guide to navigating using the Garmin Edge 800

In case anyone's interested, I'm organising a bike ride this Sunday 28th meeting at 10am in Barbury Castle car park. Aim of the ride is to raise money for an orphanage in Uganda called Kinship House, in the Wakiso District near Kampala, where a colleague is going to be volunteering in October. The ride is approx 18km round trip, starting and ending at the car park, where there is a cafe and toilets. Cost of entry is £10, which gets you maps, directions etc. All money goes to the orphanage. PM me if you're interested!0

Lexiekay - how did the bike ride go?
Mine went fantastically well - though it was really hard. They've some big hills in Ireland!
I think I can make it out on Saturday afternoon/evening. Anyone interested?
Strodey - yes, let me get settled and diary sorted and we'll have to get a night ride organised! My guide to navigating using the Garmin Edge 800

Hi Guys
How far do you go on those ridgeway rides?
Joe0 -
Depends on how fit we're feeling and how much time everyone has got. Anywhere between 10 and 30 miles - normal is 15-20m.My guide to navigating using the Garmin Edge 800

where do you guys normally meet up and which route do you normally cycle on?0 -
Meet up White Horse Hill, FoxHill or Barbury Castle. Again, depends on who is interested in riding and what they want to do.
There's nothing rigid about it - we're just a few people that have met through this forum.
Feel free to say when you want to ride, where from and what distance! And maybe someone will be able to make it.My guide to navigating using the Garmin Edge 800

Its game on for me, try not to mention the 2 monster climbs though, bring it on boyzWhy use brakes? Falling off is a much quicker way to stop0

I know I've missed that one but I'm from around that area, would be up for future rides.
Does anyone fancy giving Spithill a try out, I've known about it for a while but not tried it out yet.0 -
Hi guys
A few weeks back I got in contact with Steve, the chap who has been working hard down at Croft, and offered to help him progress with the trails. I'm not sure if any of you have been down there recently, but we have been adding bits and pieces to the old trail, and have also been extending the route further around the country park. We are in real need of some willing volunteers to help finish the rest of the trail. I have read a few negative comments regarding the skill level of the existing course, but there's only one way to improve this - get invloved! Our aim is to get the route fully open and rideable asap, and then work round the trail adding technical trail features and interesting obstacles. None of this happens over night, or without lots of hard work. I've started a facebook group for now, but what I'm aiming to do is to start a trail building/maintaining club that will ensure the long term future of the area. I know its not Wales/Scotland/Forest of Dean, but it is somewhere thats local and with a little hard work could turn into something special. You can contact me through here or the facebook group. Please also note that everything thats built or cleared needs to be run past Steve and the council first. Unofficial stuff will be removed very quickly!

Rode it twice last night actually and I was thinking if i'd be able to help. Will see if i can get another one or two to reply here or on facebook too.
I'd really like to be able to add some ideas to the cooking pot too.
Was surprised last night though, seems like another 200m? added in the last two weeks?
In terms of helping build - will there be certain days where we all get together to build? follow an agenda and go down at different times?
will get on facebook asap but blocked at work no surprise
can't wait to get digging. was thinking of heading over there this afternoon too actually. got a bmx so was gonna try out the jumps.
Is it going to be rideable this weekend? or is it pretty much going to be closed off due to the running?
ok think thats enough from me ha ha0 -
I go out on rides with Red Planet, and have heard croft mentioned but haven't ridden there yet.
What's the score? where is it?0 -
I emailed Phil and offered help if they organise a trail-building day.
Phil reckons the trail could be 7km long by the time its finished. Obviously its never going to take on the dedicated trail centres or be the best trail in the world, but what a fantastic resource to have on our doorstep. Especially if it holds up in all weathers and the car park is usable at night (I accidentally found myself in a car park at night a little while ago and there were lots of fat blokes giving me a "ooh, fresh meat" look!) for a little weekday evening riding in the winter. My guide to navigating using the Garmin Edge 800

That looks amazing, we ride past there on almost every ride, why's no one taken me there before?!?!
 8)0 -
I'd be interested in helping out too, specially if there's an organised time.I go out on rides with Red Planet
I'd been meaning to go out on one of these rides most of the summer but never quite made it! Are they still doing them now its getting dark? And what sort of routes do they do? I was kind've put off when I went in the shop to ask about them because the guy there said "we do go quite a long way you know" and "you need a proper bike"...0 -
lexiekay..
Yeah they're still on, but now the weathers getting worse there's fewer people turn up, usually about half a dozed.
The first few rides almost killed me, but I'd not been riding much before that, and after a few rides it wasn't so bad.
We usually head up to barbury one way or another, then along the ridgeway, round fyefield down, back to barbury and back to old town, either that or through coate water over to chiseldon and up on to the ridgeway further over near the ogbournes.
Not too sure on how many miles we do but we set off at 18:30 and are usually back between 21:00-21:30.
Most of them do have decent bikes but I ride a £500 hardtail and i do okay
I'm surprised at the attitude, they're normally very friendly and encouraging.
Come along...0
