Ridgeway Loop Saturday 26th April

I did the Castles Bike 28-mile route yesterday. That was after 13 miles off-road with BossAngel Saturday evening. Needless to say I'm a bit tender today.
Very well organised and great fun. Many thanks to lexiekay for mentioning it.
No problem! I'm ashamed to say I didnt actually go in the end as I went to Afan on Saturday and was a bit tired after and didnt get up in time! But then I felt bad so I did a similar length ride in the afternoon and donated my entrance fee to the charity anyway  Glad you enjoyed it though
I'm not around this week but if you're planning any other rides on Saturday or next week let us know and I'll try and tag along...0 -
I'd be up for a ride saturday evening if you wanna rip it upWhy use brakes? Falling off is a much quicker way to stop0

we are meeting at the shepherds rest at 730pm tonight if anyone wants to playWhy use brakes? Falling off is a much quicker way to stop0

well what a nice ride we had, i think the highlight was watching forgetrafe fall off in mud next to a pile of hay and get up off the ground looking like wurzel gummidge. He was all right though thankfully. We got past the 20 mile barrier on the ridgeway and we look forward to riding with a few more. Why use brakes? Falling off is a much quicker way to stop0

sounds good. i've now got a new rear rotor for my disc and re-bled my rear brake after it started pissing oil out the lever. so is anyone riding one evening next week? i have nothing planned at the moment so might take advantage of that fact!0

i usually go out on a tuesday and a thursday evening during the week and i will try and sneak a ride in my busy day later on todayWhy use brakes? Falling off is a much quicker way to stop0

It seems I'm only invited because I know the Ridgeway quite well and amuse others with my clipless pedal comedy moments

Your crash was good but was no where near as good as mine the other week. Yes you know the ridgeway reasonably well but for the readers benefit your pretty good company to have on a ride. The clipless pedal incidents have put me off them a bit though. I'm quite capable of falling off without themWhy use brakes? Falling off is a much quicker way to stop0

How long is your usual trip distance, because for me to get to foxhill is about 7 miles. I live in west Swindon. See you there!0
-
@yarocin - I'll answer that in case BossAngel doesn't see it in time.
We usually do a 13.something mile loop but this can be extended to take in a sweet bit of singletrak if desired. I'd imagine that's what they'll do tonight.
Oh and we park in the layby between pub & ridgeway rather than the pub car park itself.

I hung around til 8 but no takers last night, I still had a nice sweaty ridy though. 1:18:08 rafe. Still getting quicker. The big hill was a test in the heat i can tell you. I was almost tempted to go in the pub after and undo all the hard work on the loop. Will probably go out again thursday 7:30pm from the same locationWhy use brakes? Sorry, but yesterday I got lost. I couldn't find the place. Finally I did 25 miles. I will try to find this place today. Have you been on the top of Brabury castle yesterday?

I'm up for it next week?
Where is the singletrak you take in? is it just other side of white horse hill turn right ?Carbon is a mans best freind0 -
Singletrak is, as you say, on the right hand side just after the descent down from WHH (assuming you're coming from Swindon/WHH car park direction).
The climb after the singletrak to get back onto the Ridgeway or down to Lambourn is getting very overgrown so long trousers or take the nettle stings like a man!

forgetrafe. You WERE WEARING TROUSERS last time young man. My dogs pelvis is broken in 2 so my next ride will be saturday pm evening. Pm me if you want to ride saturday nightWhy use brakes? Falling off is a much quicker way to stop0

I'll take the stings like a man!!!!
I live in Lambourn so ride around there regularly, there is some great singletrack around Lambourn woodlands and also a good stretch heading toward sheepdrove, the grass on it makes it hard to see the big old divots so i'm well used to ending up in the bushes.Carbon is a mans best freind0 -
Strodey, you sound like someone we could ride with, forgetrafe likes to fall in mud but i have laid claim to the best crash so far. We end up in mud, bushes grass, nettles. All good funWhy use brakes? Falling off is a much quicker way to stop0
-
I'll bring the first aid kit!!!!
If you are out let me know, do you ever do night rides?Carbon is a mans best freind0 -
Night rides sound fun but i dont have a light, i usually go out 7-730pm in the evenings, next one for me will be tommorow, saturday 14th juneWhy use brakes? Falling off is a much quicker way to stop0

I never denied I took the long trouser option!
I made my own light and it's stupidly bright. Only lasts an hour and a half though.
Did a couple of rides at night over the winter. Hoped to do more but the weather was pants - dark and cold is okay, dark cold and chucking it down is too much.
Amazing what I saw at night, lots of bats, owls and other things scurrying around in bushes - foxes and badgers I presumed.
Very sorry to hear about Bella the dog. Hope she recovers ok.

would you allow an unfit novice to tag along sometime?? Only asking as I may slow you down quite a bit. I'm not around for the next few weeks but I live near chippenham and looking for some good place to ride as i've just got myself a new bike.0
-
Whatever gave you the impression that we were fit?
Of course you can tag along sometime, I'll always adjust a ride to suit the slowest and BossAngel is the same. Nice if the slowest isn't me for a change
I'm back in a couple of weeks time.

Can't make 2moro night, apparently i have commitments with my girlfriend which i apparently made 2 months ago!!!!
Usual case of me not listening or just saying yes to to keep her happy!!!!
Will be up there sat in the day and sun though, def next week during week too.Carbon is a mans best freind0 -
strodey you sound far too fit for us m8, though i understand where your coming from about the girlfriend. I am working tommorow day and sunday is generally a no no unless i squeeze one in the afternoon. Hence i do most of my rides in the evening during the week, Forgetrafe just likes to ride whenever whereever but he is in france working at the momentWhy use brakes?
