Sub 55 seems to be topping the points, it should get easier from now until November.
Best of luck everyone.

I hope that this doesn't sound like sour grapes (it probably is, but I hope it doesn't sound like it ) but it seems as though our new member Thomas is doing his riding on a professional basis - in other words he is paid for doing it. To me this rather seems to defeat the purpose of the challenge, just as it would if a professional cyclist or a cycle courier entered for the challenge.
By all means let's have a separate challenge for those who earn money by doing it, but keep the current one for those who cycle purely as a hobby and for fun.
What do the challenge setter and other posters think?0 -

I am sorry, but I am NOT paid for anything.
My only advantage is TIME that i have hole tha day because until now I have NO Workpermit hiere in Thailand = not allowed to get Money for some work here, and even if i get it my paiment would be to cycle with guests - but not for all the km i did and do on my own until now.
If in November 2008 after i have some test training with profis here in Asia (TCA) and they take me into there team AND i can earn some money because of this THEN i can stop here posting. But until NOW it is pure privat interesting and motivation!0 -

If in November 2008 after i have some test training with profis here in Asia (TCA) and they take me into there team AND i can earn some money because of this THEN i can stop here posting. But until NOW it is pure privat interesting and motivation!
In that case, well done to you, although I would say that, by my book, you are a 'professional' in the sense that your primary activity is cycling. I wish I could afford to stay in such a pleasant place for six months without any income and having to pay for food and accommodation. No doubt I'd be able to cycle 100km a day under such circumstances. Of course, if your food and accommodation was given to you free or at reduced cost...
I'm making this my big year for the Metric Century Challenge because I may well be taking retirement soon, and it would be unfair to be competing with people who cannot ride whenever they feel like it but have to earn a living.
Clearly there's no point in trying to keep up with you on points, so I'll simply log one Metric Century a month on here and be satisfied with that. I'm afraid you've destroyed the whole point of the wider challenge for me.0 -

To me this rather seems to defeat the purpose of the challenge, just as it would if a professional cyclist or a cycle courier entered for the challenge.
By all means let's have a separate challenge for those who earn money by doing it, but keep the current one for those who cycle purely as a hobby and for fun.
What do the challenge setter and other posters think?
I am sorry, but I am NOT paid for anything.
My only advantage is TIME that i have hole tha day because until now I have NO Workpermit hiere in Thailand = not allowed to get Money for some work here, and even if i get it my paiment would be to cycle with guests - but not for all the km i did and do on my own until now.

Hi Thomas, congratulations on the near intergalactic mileages and good luck with your quest for a pro team place.
You would seem to be in a category of your own as far as this challenge thread is concerned; but, if it's good motivation for you, then I don't see a problem, it doesn't demotivate me.
But maybe when the prizes are handed out at the end of the year we could have category awards for the rest of us leisure riders. But I'm sure I for one still won't win any! :oops:Where the neon madmen climb0 -
I missed out on this challenge, although if I kept a log I'm sure I would qualify.
Reading through the thread it's rather hard to tell how many are still in, is this proving popular enough to run next year?
If so, can I be the first to say "I'm in"
PS I'm not a pro and have no aspirations in that direction"Impressive break"
"Thanks...
...I can taste blood"0
