I'm dreading hearing this. Please let it be a random test of some rider we haven't heard of and hopefully it'll fly somewhat under the radar. Then again maybe we need the pain of a big name to get sorting this out once and for all.

    i predict Tom Boonen
it really had better not be, hes one of my favourite riders, but nothing would surprise me!

These were the riders tested after that stage:

Michael Rasmussen, Robert Hunter, Kim Kirchen, Erik Zabel, Patxi Vila Errandonea, Lilian Jegou, Maxim Iglinskiy and Cristian Moreni.

    Take your pick.

Can't be Boonen realistically. He didn't finish top 3 that stage but did on others so it would be a strange occurence if he tested positive on the day he didn't win/place!

We'll find out very soon. But I really hope it isn't Hunter!

Fingers crossed it's not Hunter or Kirchen!

The way things have gone recently you'd put your money on Kirchen or Iglinsky. My money's on them or Patxi Villa (for no particular reason).

Unless of course they've decided to frame Rasmussen just to get rid of him

I'll give you evens on it bein Iglinsky!

It'll be bad news if it's Ras, Hunter, Kirchen or Zabel! Though I won't shed a tear if Ras is stuffed!

    If he's French, that's it, I'm off.

    Iglinksy all the way.

T-Mobile will fold if it is Kirchen so hope it is not him.

Rasmussen out would not be bad news but that is not how the general public would see it.

Have any of those riders left the Tour since that stage?

I can't imagine they would be letting them ride today when their positive test is about to be made public.

Kirchen would be a catastrophe for T-Mobile and pro cycling sponsorship in general and we know about it by now if it was Iglinsky.

I'm going to bet on Hunter although Patxi Vila Errandonea is dodgy as fcuk so it could be him for sh1ts and giggles.

Cristian Moreni is a former Italian national champion (2004) and was a wearer of the maglia rosa during the first week of the Giro (in 2000).

I don't think it is going to be one of the guys who were bound to be tested, i.e. Rasmussen. It would be too stupid but then again we have had recent examples of that stupidity.

Cyclingnews say that the rumours are that it was one of the random picks - so not Hunter or Rasmussen

Right, here is my guess: Zabel.

Why? He is past his best but at the time still in contention for the green jersey, i.e. a lot to win for but unlikely to win a stage and be tested. And he has doped before.

Used to really really like him... not anymore.

Why? Already won a stack of green jerseys so ome more won't be that important, has plenty of cash so doesn't need more, a +ive would disrupt severely his imminent director/media career and he doped the least of ALL his generation (with 1 or 2 honorable exceptions). AND he's cycling because he likes it, not cos he has to so why put yourself through the guilt/scared of knock on door crap for what is essentially now a hobby...

See, you can like him again now!

Amen. The only one on that list that would shock me with a positve is Eric.

He has it all to lose and nothing to gain

what we should be looking at here is also the fact that yet again the news has come from a 'leaked source' - these guys at the labs :x are as trustworthy as the dopers

I suspect that they are now waiting until the end of the stage.

So why is cycling always the one that gets beatun up by the press? OK it needs to clean up but i suspect a lot of other sports in other countries are hiding it under the carpet.

What chance some amazing Chinese results in the Olympics per chance.
